  • you gotta love it. simple and sweet.

    thank you

  • Who is the performer? Please credit them accordingly, unless it's you. It's a terrific rendition. Real heart. Thanks for sharing. I kept landing on that other frenetic and forgettable kid's Candy Mountain song til I found yours.

  • They should put this over a war scene from world war 2

  • best song ever

  • where they hung that jerk that invented work :P

  • Who is the performer?

  • sounds like heaven <3

  • does someone know where i can get one of them cigarette trees?

  • And they never change their socks!

  • best song ever!!!!

  • LOL @ cigarette trees

  • I LOVE this SONG..; ) ; ) Peace and Love

  • second picture is a cafe go there it is neer rich field utah best prime rib ever!!

  • this song is made of win

  • Just so you know, Big Rock Candy Mountain is in Utah. West Central.

  • love this song =D

  • ME TO!!!!

  • Who doesnt ;)

  • ME TO! Everone thinks that i am weird!

  • We're starting the Great Depression in history, and we went over hoboes. Isn't American History the most interesting subject out there or what? :D

  • Great video. You really captured the spirit of the time in a way that resonates. For a version sung in the same Haywire Harry McClintock style that captures the spirit of our times, check out the "Big Old Federal Government" video on YouTube. You'll get a kick out of it, I'm certain.

  • its TURK no jerk

  • YYEEEEEEHHHHAAAA!

  • 0:53 he says blig rock candy mountain

  • lmao

  • u would notice that hahaha just messin

  • Very nice, thanks for sharing ^_^

  • Hey, cheer up; just 2 more days and we'll be livin' in the big rock candy mountains!

    Didn't the Obamessiah promise?

  • In 4 years a Republican will be back in power. That's my thoughts on Obama. He's just a man, nothing more. He reminds me of Jimmy Carter. We'll see how things turn out.

  • more like james brown hahaha just messin more like george bush ahahh phew that was a good one but seriously mccain is way better than obama because now every black guy i know is getting all errogant and shit and they are talking shit so yea pretty gay

  • Lol, it's a shame that McCain lost. Maybe if he'd had a team that would fight and work as hard for the campaign as Obama won, he might just have won. But his campaign people were shit, and afterwards they had the balls to say it was all Palin's fault, even though it was the campaign's fault for losing the election. It's a shame though, because Obama will be a terrible president, mark my words. This recession will not be over in the next year, I think it will last up to 3 years and get even worse

  • Come on, lighten up and just enjoy this great song.

I know you may not be crazy about Obama but just give him a chance before you cut him down; the poor guy just started! If he turns out not to be a good leader, he will be replaced in time.

  • Check out the "Big Old Federal Government" video. I think you could have written this one.

  • ya get a movie called obrother where art thou

  • OMG this is inspirering

  • did anyone see the face in the dirty sock

  • Yes actually, that was quite the face. Hard to miss.

  • haha this tune got played when i went camping lmao

  • and the birds and the beez and the chicken shit crees

  • wash me darn you! xD

  • I take this over Lil Wayne any day

  • Hahahaha! Agreed. This song is so great. Its so fun to listen and sing to also. How can anyone argue with this song, how friendly it is? The lyrics are so creative and fantasty like. The Big Rock Candy Mountains, where the jails are made of tine, and you can walk right out as soon as you are in, and they hung the jerk who invented work.

Its just so friendly and creative. Maybe my favorite song of all time, and I'm 15 years old!

  • This song makes me sad that real life sucks.

  • Grate thanks for sharing this wonderful vid with us^^

  • great vid

  • where they hung the jerk that invented work!!!!

  • if u r sad listen to this it will make u happy

  • that song just made me dry as a bone down there

  • mmmm...

  • always relaxing, ahhhhhhhh

  • This is John McCain's new campaign song

  • XD haha

  • i bet they already made a tech remix. ill look for it

  • you do that...

  • we love that song. i least i think we do...

  • No this song does not need a techno remix Schulte257 that would would ruin it

  • Best song eva

  • aaaaa... no

  • this songs about a hobo, lol, if you listen carefuly it's all the things hobo's hate, there are pitbulls that cant bite, free stuff, policemen that cant run, and train men that cant see them hitch rides on the train, it's great XD

  • no you do!

  • someone needs to write a stoner's equivilant to this don't you think

  • the highwaymen version is the best

  • love this song. especially on o brother where art thou. love it. big rock candy mountain sounds so great

  • i like the version hootie did during his burger king commercial the best!!!

  • I was under the impression that this song originated during the depression and Woody Guthrie sang it and other "protest songs"

  • I just did some reading up on the history of songs like this, and it's interesting to find out they were used to tempt children into running away to be used by a "Mister" who would use the child to steal, beg and for other unpleasent things. This version is heavily edited from Harry's original collected lyrics which were a lot bawdier.

  • Sounds like Obama's acceptance speech.

  • This song makes me happy.

  • same =p but ill bored of it sumtime ; )

  • Sickandfresh, paradise doesn't have to make sense. Rain is imperfect, so it doesn't belong in the song.

  • I WORSHIP THIS SONG!!!

  • lol i love this song but if the rain didnt fall how do the trees grow so much fruit? im sorry but that was buggin me.

  • lol how about the part where theres a lake of stew (and whiskey too!) :)

  • this isnt the right version. this is the second version. theres another one where the beggining of the song is another thing.i rememeber when i was little my pawpaw use to sing this to me,and this version makes my ears bleed its so terrible!

  • Who cares if its about drugs, its a nice song anyway!

Lyrics can always be interpertated in many ways, they are just about what you wanna hear.

  • As a descendant of Harry McClintock (Not McKlintock), I can indeed confirm that this is not about drugs but just about a hobo's paradise. He was not at all a druggie, and the candy doesn't mean meth. It's just an innocent song about every hobo's dream.

  • If there is a heaven it had better be like this.

  • Oh wow, I love this song. <3

  • love this song love the movie

  • Where are those cigarette trees? LOL

  • charlie the unicorn aint got nothin on that

  • to clear up some misconceptions, this song is about a hobo's idea of paradise, and dates back to the 1890s. man would not trip on LSD until about 50 years later, when Albert Hoffman accidentally discovered this amazing chemical.

  • i think this is an acranym for heaven

  • I live 30 miles from Big Rock Candy Mountain XD

  • boys and girls...drop this civilized junk and just be people

  • first of all, LSD was invented in 1948 so they aint talking about it in this song, 2nd these poor hobos are probly talking about north carolina or somthing

  • that would be crazy because i'm from north carolina.

  • whats LSD? and i like this song =)

  • this videos is a good awesome and so also is down to the river to pray im a christian.

  • awsome song

  • GREAT VIDEO FOR THE SONG ! Thx for the vid!

  • its heroine guys, the mafia was pushing that and cocaine at that point in time

  • its about LSD lol. its a hobo paradise!

  • this son is from the 1920's, so i don't think it is about LSD...

  • It's quite obviously about LSD. Or ostriches...

  • haha that fuckin great! rofl!

  • sooooo.... hobo's paradise?

  • I sang this song in school ^_^......!

  • lol

  • Everybody is 'searching for answers.' We can try and interpret the song all we want, but let's all agree it's a great fucking song.

  • I believe that this song is a tale of a forgotten treasure hoard hidden in a cave inside this mountain ... Restarts do a much better version ... S

  • your stupid

  • lol

  • This Ruins WeeSing for me...

  • what is weesing u douche

  • haha yeah. i was reading these comments and i wondered why the company would put a song about drugs in that movie. but who cares?

  • I agree with beardedyodeler. This song is about a hobo's idea of paradise.

  • actually...the song is about the hoboes that used to try to snag kids to do their begging for them. the song was actually written by Harry McKlintock when he was a kid. there is an old recording of an interview with him. you should check it out! ;D

  • its about weed, and it was written in 1914

and a jungo fire is a bonfire that is started by dried weed, belive me i did my research! also, this is 1 of my fav songs

  • actually its Jungle Fire. a jungle is a hobo camp

  • Wow! I'm really impressed. A lot of stupid people have tried to comment on this.

Candy is actually Ecstasy(MDMA). For the person who thought it was Blow(cocaine).

The song is as said by someone else is about a Paradise for travelers(hobos as most of you put it). It's not even in fact about drugs at all. Just booze and cigarettes and a place to lay your head in peace. That's all.

Mullens87 was pretty much spot on except for one small mistake.

  • I could use a Lucky Strike tree. L.S.M.F.T. Loose Straps Mean Flappy Tits.

  • THIS SONG IS ABOUT METH!!!!!! lol j/k

  • chevy chase

  • this song makes me and my sister HAPPY!!! :-)

we both like the songs about happy places

its right up there with Pocket full of sunshine by Natasha Bedingfield

  • let's NOT make it ghetto...my typo stands corrected....

  • Let me be forward....any idiot...modern day shallow ....that thinks this is about meth...needs to put the pipe down...and get real...this is far from that....and that frankly makes me sad...and sick...a beautiful song...let's make it ghetto...please.....

  • This song is about crystal meth...

  • no its not. meth wasnt around when the song was wriiten.

  • Methamphetamine was first synthesized from ephedrine in Japan in 1893 by chemist Nagayoshi Nagai.[3] In 1919, crystallized methamphetamine was synthesized by Akira Ogata via reduction of ephedrine using red phosphorus and iodine. The related compound amphetamine was first synthesized in Germany in 1887 by Lazăr Edeleanu. --Wikipedia :P

  • Existing and "being around" are two different things: the stuff had been made, but it was not widely used recreationally aywhere near the time this song was written. At any rate, aside from the flimsy rock=meth association, there's nothing remotely relating to crystal meth in the entire song. The song is about a hobo's idea of paradise.

  • The song was written in at least 1897. Maybe even earlier than that. Crystal meth may have been created around the same time, but I doubt it was popular in America back then.

This song is about a Hobos idea of paradise. If you are down with the hobo lingo then you would understand all of the lyrics.

Like a"Railroad bull" was someone who was hired to throw hobos off the trains.

Everyone wants to be a hobo deep down thats why this song is liked by just about everyone.

  • Calm down dude I can back up my logic.

A hobo (good source for yay) introduces a couple kids to a big rock candy mountain (pile of crystal meth) where everything is mixed up because that's what crystal meth does to you.

  • If your point was to make any logical sense wouldn't this have to do with crack cocaine. Seeing as cocaine is called candy sometimes and crack is frequently referred to as rock. Nonetheless you are an ignoramus and the song was written in at least 1928 (first record of any sheet music) and has nothing to do with any drugs but simply a hobo's paradise.

  • Thank you for having a brain!

  • this is about a hobos paradise lol wow

  • i love this song

i wanna be a hobo and go there

  • My fiends would accept you if you liked this song, or any other kind of music like this!!

  • "Where they hung the jerk that invented work" lol, I thought he said Turk at first, awesome song.

  • "young turk"is a expression about turkish people who had a rebellion. The term is now used for a member of any radical or rebellious faction within a party or organization. I have heard "turk" being used in old movies and it is usally bad and means that thier a mean and un-liked character. But he did say "Turk" Does that help?

  • He says "jerk" -.-

  • the song was written in the thirties, when many people thought hard, low paying work had been invented by a Turk. It wasn't until the rise of Ronald Reagan and the republican party that it was more properly ascribed to lazy American bums with rich fatheres.

  • Yuo try to post a reply and it comes out garbage twice. Was for AlexDCI
