It would be wise to be wary of HTC - their products have power circuitry defects that surface after some time. And worse, this firm culture does not do recalls of defective products - instead they flog their defective products and flush their channel inventory on unsuspecting consumers.
I found a version for htc touch elf, But I have htc gsm and I have a problem when I click on RUN, it says something about change 1 2 or 3 but in the file DEFAULT.TXT but I don't know where. Please help me!!!
I know it has been a while, but I just posted a new video of the Android HTC Sense UI build running on my HTC Touch. You can find the video in the video responses at the top or just view my videos by clicking on my name. It was filmed with my new video camera, so it should look much better, and I decided to brave the flames of the internet and actually speak in this one. Hope you guys like it and will head over to the xda-developer forums and check it out. Props to its creators as always!
I think it does but but I know Elfin works, there are things not working yet like sound, wifi and bluetooth. also you can't turn the phone off or put it on standby so it kills your battery quite quickly..
This is early in the development process and was just starting to be worthy of showing off. Now it's much faster, able to use the chipsets gpu( which winmo doesnt), we are now booting 1.5, and the build in this video is cupcake, which was followed by 1.1 and now 1.5.
Well, I use a HTC (Touch Viva T2223), I was not sure if this Vogue or Opal. (I have a RAM 128 MB, Flash Size 256 MB). I think it is Opal.
Can you please redirect me to the download link of the Android Kernel.
Will the language setting be a problem? I am referring to the keyboard layout.
Also, it would great if you can share information on how do I go back to Windows Mobile, if I had any problem with Android? How will I load Windows on it again?
thats opal and you cannot run this build of android since that uses a different chipset. If you were able too boot android, this method doesnt do anything to windows, haret runs on top of winmo..once u boot linux , it clears ur main memory and boots from sd..
Go to google and search for xda-developers and click on that site, then go to forums, then vogue/vogue and you should find the thread with links to download the newest versions of android for the vogue(htc touch cdma). This is quite an old build now, so ill try to film the newest build with my new camera.
Well, evidently you can add waterproof to the list of the touch's abilities. I went swimming with it in my pocket on the 4th and when I got out of the water and sat down I noticed I had it on me because it stared vibrating trying to turn on. I took out the battery and let it sit for 2 days and voila! It still works fine. I ended up upgrading to the spectacular lil palm pre, but this phone will always have a place in my geeky heart.
Hola yo tengo un equipo de estos y me gustaria saber los pasos mas detallados para poder cambiar a android ya que veo que es muy practico les escribo desde la ciudad de mexico
that looks almost perfect- We're so close to being able to choose an os for our mobile phones in the same way we do with computers. That's the world that i want to live in...fuck win mo fo real
I agree. I've had an HTC Fuze for a month, and I've already had Windows Mobile / Touch Flo 3D crash about 4 times. Today it crashed while I was just trying to send a text message!
I'll be glad when / if there's a reliable way to install Android on it.
Same over here, i tried to mess around with it on my diamond, as like as i have tried every other compatible os around (wm 6.5 f.e.).
I can only guess that its lelated to the screendriver and some other specific hardware which is to difficult to access in the diamond series. Makes me wish to downgrade to a vogue :(
dude, just put it on my vogue a couple of days ago to mess around, but i like it so much and i cant figure out how to get the network to work. i tried editing the default.txt file, but it isnt working. then i heard something about "togga" can u help me out?
You have to launch the app called "Togga" and them click connect, and all is fine. The current build does not support an automatic connection, but will in the near future.
All you have to do is copy the files onto your sd card and run the file haret.exe. IT will not modify any existing data, and a soft reset will put you back into windows mobile.
wow this is weird i mean i have my own t-mobile g1 and this is ecxactly how looks like (except for the bigger buttons) questions all the programs (softwares)in the g1 work in this phone?
Battery isn't that great, although it helps if you turn off the data connection with togga whenever your not using it. Of course togga doesn't always bring the connection back up, so you have to be careful. Typically I have no problem making it through the day though which is all I need since I always recharge over night.
while i agree with you in some ways (that windows is slow and buggy and u have to go through alotta menus to do shit), i still think windows is alot better than the android. you can run different user interface themes. I have the HTC touch and i was using a iphone theme -ifonz. It was great because i customized it in such a way that it was efficient for me to do things. Now i am using Touchflo aka manila 2d and its great.
But with the upcoming windows mobile 7, things may change....
HA.... I have had winmoblo 6.1 crash numerous times before I switched exclusively to Android.
Times that winmob crashed:
1. Signing in to gmail.
2. Browsing the net in Opera (google image search)
3. Receiving a call from my wife. Then from my mother.
4. Setting up weather info.
Sure, Android has it's bugs, but I have NOT ever had it crash or any serious problems preventing it from functioning correctly for me (and others) 24/7.
Mac and Linux will move Win mobile out of the market in '09.
I seriously doubt that mac and linux will beat windows in 09'. I am an avid linux user, have been for years, and personally I think the battle will always be won by the company with the most money.
More and more people adopt Linux every day, whether they know it or not. Look at splashtop. Look at the EEEPC (and its massive market of clones). Even Palm is taking more of a liking to Linux on its upcoming phone, Pre. Then you have Android, which should take off in the 2nd quarter as new handsets are released with this neat little mobile os (currently using it on my HTC Touch as well). Apple has their thing with the iPhone and their iPods. MS lost more ground this past quarter to Apple alone.
Question: do apps from the Android Marketplace work? Specifically, I am interested in the one that uses the camera to scan barcodes and pull up prices online for books and stuff like that, so additionally, does the camera work?
where can i get the .cab file for installing android, i installed one i got but i just shows me 1/3 of the boot screen and then i goes white, and then nothing happens. can anyone help me?
will this work on a Jade-based HTC TOUCH 3G? The one similar to that in the video, but for recent. Search google for T3232. Im thinking of buying one.. but want to run android in it!
So d3mon would you say this is working good enough to buy an htc touch and use with Android full time? I saw some refurbished HTC touch on ebay for $140, very tempting.
It's good enough for using full time, but you just can't expect EVERYTHING to work perfectly. You still need to use Windows Mobile for some things, like copying over files and such. Right now the things that still need to be fixed is GPS, Bluetooth, and headphones support. Plus there are little bugs like it garbling text messages over 180 characters or something like that. Nevertheless, its a great phone no matter what OS you use. I got mine for $30 after rebates through sprint :-)
The speed is really the only reason I like the idea of switching over from Win Mobile. I shouldn't have to wait forever for the browser to load, and I definitely shouldn't have to wait for something like "settings" to load. Plus I can run through a bunch of different programs in Android and not have the phone freeze up from lack of memory. It's really quite sad how much better the phone runs on an OS that was ported by one guy in his spare time.
Are you running the latest Radio firmware? You must have 3.42.50 or 3.42.30 in order for everything to work. Camera works fine for me. Haven't done much with it, but it does take decent enough pictures. White balance is off though, so the pictures come out a bit distorted and dirty. I'm sure Dzo will have everything sorted out soon.
...I thought they usee the same system. I have a g1 and I dont have an actual STREET VIEW not where you see streets, but I mean actually see on the g1 what you see with your eyes. Also, why does yours have a touch keyboard? dang, why doesn't google just put in the keyboard since they already did with that phone.
I could have sworn the G1 has the same street view functionality, although you guys have the built in compass and can actually move the view by moving the phone.
As for the keyboard, from what I understand, it is actually a driver based keyboard and basically acts like a hardware keyboard....? To bring it up, you have to hit the camera key, so it won't come up automatically like a software one would. Supposedly Google will release an actual software keyboard in January.
WHOAH I SEE IT NOW. THANKS ALOT. wow I wish I found out about this earlier. I wonder how they can even see that low. And I knew about the keyboard coming out in jan but I thought it was messed up cause the g1 didn't have it. Thanks for clearing this up for me.

Well an easy way to Prove my Point is to watch this video
Compare it to Touch Running Windows Mobile
Whether it's Navigating through the menus or opening Applications
Android is not only much faster but also far more stable
In fact the WM Interface sux so much that
Htc had to design their own UI {touch flo} to Mask the ugliness of it !
and it's not just HTC
Samsung did it with the Omnia and now Sony too with the Xperia
It like they r indirectly saying WM Sux and Hiding it is r only option
