  • Great tutorials again I am just going to go and finish up the 8th part and so far these have been a great help. Thank You Great work.

  • Great video, very encouraging =D

  • i enjoy watching your videos..very informative!..cheers for that!

  • @Castaa Cant you have music thats shorter than 30 seconds?

  • @MonkeyPawINC I'm not a lawyer. But I know traditional media, like TV shows, can't use any music (even for a few seconds) without permission of it's copyright owner. I don't see why the copyright rules for YouTube would be different.

  • @Castaa

Thanks one of question I have always wondered. How do you get the hello from California or other stuff like that at the top??

  • @MonkeyPawINC You have to be a youtube partner.

  • @Castaa

    Thanks for the help

  • Thanks! The tips you have for videos are great!

  • thanks so much for the series! it's been really helpful for me. now i have a sense of organized thoughts and ideas :) ciao!

  • I Know This Question Has Nothing Related With This Video, But Would You Recommend Capitalizing The First Letter Of Every Word When You Are Writing Your Tags?

  • @564Sonic564 doesn't matter

  • @LordConnorStudios I can't say definitively but probably, yes.

  • If you're not part of the partner program, how is your video 14 minutes long?

Great series. It's very helpful. I like that you're discouraging annoying spam messages/comments.

  • I have a special account they don't offer anymore outside of the current partner program.

  • Oh I see.

  • @Castaa how did you get the special acount

  • Probably signed up before November 2006, when Google bought YouTube, back then, there really was no limit.

  • @wcooper97

i think you can still get a "director account" to upload more than 10 minutes

  • do tell more about this :)

  • fuck that

  • i love these tip vids keep makeing them the one you talked about how lighting might make your sync seem off was very helpfull

  • Partners Rule!!!!

  • it is said WhatTheBuck makes a 6 digit numbers on his salary

  • He gets so many views that he can quit whatever job he was doing. to be honest you'd have to have at least have 100,000 subscribers before you would be able to quit your job. They get money for comments and views. They probably get interviews once in a while too. Just think how much youtube get from partners.

  • Yeah, I'm with you with the subscribers part for quitting your job.. but say you had a viral video, like, Charlie bit my Finger, that has about 170 million views, and you make about 0.003 cents per view when revenue sharing with ads from adsense, and they could have made over $500 thousand, so they could have easily quit their job :D

  • Great Tips. I like the tip about going for a plain type of background - It's nice that you gave an example - so I could see what you were talking about. :-) Thanks!

  • Hey Man, awesome videos, keep up the awesome/amazing/fantastic work

Congratulations on your huge amount of success and popularity

    All the best

  • Being a partner gives you more freedom in terms of channel design which is good.

The money you will get from the partner program is more like beer money. I would like to know if there is anyone that makes a living off of youtube.

Youtube is way too strict with the copyright stuff.

  • Good point - if you are not part of the youtube partner program then how did you manage to upload this video at almost 14 mins ?.

Thanks for these informative vids - they are very usefull

  • I have a long format account that YouTube doesn't offer anymore.

  • I had been wondering the same thing :)

  • Great information! I watched all 7 and picked up a few things that I was not aware of. Thanks for the tutorials!

  • I noticed that this vid is longer than 10 minutes... how did you swing this...

I LOVE this series.. you are informative and easy to understand.

    Thank you for these.

    Blessings

    Alaia

  • any 1 can upload more then 10 mins

  • i think there are 2 ways to do it: a. be a youtube partner

    b. own a director account

  • how do u apply for partnership

  • Thanks, Castaa, for the informative and thoughtful videos. All the best.

  • Great info, thank you!

  • That was very helpful. Thanks for clarifying the no html on comments bit, it was getting a bit frustrating trying to use them and having the comment lock up and not post!

    Great series love!

  • OMG! That script is outrageously amazing! I love watching the videos so big and the fact that downloading them is only a click away! Thanks! You got my sub, Bucko!

    Chase

  • This is a very informative video. The background thing never occurred to me.

  • thanks for the great tips!

  • I add a black tile at the end for 2 seconds.

  • 11:22

    "less blurrier" lol

  • I don't want subscribers unless they are genuinely interested in what I produce. Quantity is not always quality. I tend not to get haters. I think it's a question of attitude and approach.

  • howd you get 13 minutes and 45 seconds onto youtube???

  • Because I have a "long format" YouTube account. YouTube doesn't publicly offer this upgrade anymore. But I read recently that YouTube is going to be giving YouTube partners the ability to upload videos up to an hour long.

  • can i ask you a question i love your videos to by the way but how can i draw people to come to my videos

  • People ask me for advice about music videos and I don't have much advice since I don't make videos based on music.

I would maybe recommend posting one's songs as a video response to similar songs. Making a song into to a music video according to your tastes. Or sharing your thoughts about the song or the band, etc at the beginning or the end of a video. Good luck.

  • These are great tips. :) I'll use these for my channel and upcoming channel projects.

  • Great. I hope it helps you out.

  • Thank you so much for doing this series. I've watched all the parts and I built my YouTube page on your principles! Now, you need to do a video series on how to achieve happiness in life. Then, I could follow that as well. Thanks for posting these. 5 Stars!

  • Glad to be of help.

  • one again, thanks you so much for putting time and care into videos for us to learn from. I just fing them so very helpful and wanted to say thank you!

  • I hope they help you make even better videos. Thanks.

  • Man,thank you for all these videos 1-7. I didn't know many of these tips. But know thanks to you I know. 5* =D

  • Thanks for watching. Glad to help.

  • Aye aye. I've noticed one guy, who has posted in my channel, tends to specialize in trolling gamedev videos. I let some of his comments go (like sort of rudely questioning my choice in libraries), but other ones I just delete (ie, "have you uploaded any new coding videos? I need something to laugh at", when he has no videos of his own, or website to show for his own work). It's sort of just better to delete comments than give them satisfaction of bothering you or other commenters.

  • Possibly because you are a female giving advice?

  • I don't think it's as much that, because I've seen him trolling around other devvers pages, basically insulting their work and then bragging about how "half the programming videos on YouTube" are his. It's hard to take him seriously, heh.

    Ah, here's a quote...

"haha Is this your very first project? It's still pretty bad." is the sort of stuff I get from him on occasion.

Even just googling his username, apparently he just trolls everywhere he can find. :P

  • i know pretty much how to gain more subs....but i just don't know how to "enforce" it...my vids are blah...i'm a sucker at life to start this "sub4sub" thing! ahh!

    *****

  • Thanks Kiki. nooooo! Down with sub4sub! ;)

Plus your videos are not blah at all! Do not say such things.

  • in your video, i totally agree when you say that partnership with yt may not be a good idea. i know it limits what you can post. gah, why was i thinking about wanting to be a partner anyways? haha.

  • This video was very informative and interesting. Thank you for posting.

  • Hey thanks and you're welcome.

  • Good stuff, man! Thanks for letting us know about the new uploader,I didn't know about that.

  • Thanks Lavon. Great. Using the new upload is key to uploading the highest quality video to YouTube. :)

  • THank for this lovely upload. Haters suck by the wayy.. oh great now i sound negative but really they do discurage people from uploading new videos

  • Thanks Linda. If I had more time I would have gone into more detail about how it's important not to be intimidated and therefore self-censor one's opinions or ideas.

  • Yeah maybe you can explain that more in depth with your next video? I often take what other's say a bit too seriously.

  • I think that's common and natural to be effected by haters. I certainly am effected from time to time. I might talk about it further. I'm not sure knowing it's going to happen much prepares one for the actual experience when it does. lol

  • You inspire me! The way you present yourself on your youtube channel is admirable. You are professional and give a lot of dynamism in all your videos. Even if you do get effected by hate comments, it seems like you know how to pull yourself together. You area strong person and I look up to that. :)

  • Gosh, thank you. :) I subbed to your new vlog channel, btw.

  • Hey no problem! Thanks for subbing my other channel ;)

  • Fantastic video Jon :D

  • Thanks Sarah. :)

  • Thanks for the informative video. If you are not a partner, is it the multi-file upload that gives you 13 minutes plus?

  • The time limit still is <11 minutes as far as I know. I was mistaken. I thought that partners get up limited video length. It's still something you have to apply for partner or not.

  • great job john, do you use window movie makerz at all?

  • Yes. I use it for all my editing.

  • The link to your blog post doesn't work.

  • Thanks, the link is fixed.

  • Thank you for the tips! They're indeed very helpful.

  • I hope it helps your new channel Narsinha.

  • Hi Jon! Great tips as always..thanks! Good eye contact! I think it's good that you talk about the haters. I knew it was a given from the start, but am usually a little nervous to read a comment from someone I don't know. I know it's not personal and I can let it go quickly, but they still aren't fun to get. I do delete them, then block the user. Probably some kid ya know! I worry about some of the other users when they get them, and hope they aren't hurt and can let it go too. Thanks again!

  • I think everyone gets hurt a little no matter how vapid the hater comment is. I know I am effected by it. Like I said the most important is that the hate is random and hits everyone equally. I can't imagine anyone saying anything bad about you though, you rock.

  • Thanks Jon! =) You Rock too! I think a lot of it is just kids being kids...I know I thought really stupid things were funny back then...and if it's not kids...then I feel sorry for whoever the miserable person is if they have a need to get their kicks from being an A@@ to "strangers" for no good reason.

  • Hey, do you know what the longest time is that a partner video can be?

  • It depends on whether someone joined the Director Program before about October 2006. People who joined before that get more than 10 minute, otherwise no more than 10 for anyone, partner or not.

  • Oh crap, really? Thanks I thought for sure partners could upload videos longer than 10 minutes.

Sigh, I guess I am wrong.

  • I get the impression you can negotiate with Youtube about having longer videos on your channel. The partner agreements about copyrighted material are no different to the usual rules - they just have to be more strict about enforcing them as the partners are the 'shop window'.

  • Yes, that what I meant. They are more strict. But what does "more strict" for partners mean in reality. Is it a one strike policy for copyright violations? Or does YT police your channel, not just copyright holders?

  • Two strikes - same as for everyone else. A lot of the time the copyrighted material is only brought to light if you try to submit it for monetization and even then there are various deals with many media places that allow this material (but you can't claim revenue yourself). I think no matter what your channel status you should be aware of copyright issues.

  • fantastic tips :D

  • I'm going to stop giving you advice because you don't need it anymore, Becky. :D

(Becky is going to be a huge star on YouTube. Check her out.)

  • hey do u use windows movie maker? if so what file format do u use. thanx

  • I convert all source videos to the WMV format. Even though Movie Maker supports other file formats, it's best to edit with WMV files.

  • the reason i ask is that ive tried avi and wmv file formats for videos and it looks fine when i watch it on my pc but when i upload it, it looks blurry and foggy.
