  • See Big Arthur Rowe throwing pit tub axles about on my upload 'The 100th Hospital Sing'

  • f the spin tech

  • Ahhh. The Golden Age. . .

    Where men were men.

    Shorts were short.

    And America dominated the throws.

  • Where is a vid of Chuck McAllister??

  • Dallas Long was also an exceptional strongman with long arms. is credited witha standing press of 320 for reps, pressing a pair of 160 pound dumbbells in each hand for 3 reps and bench pressing 500.

  • Excellent video friend. I am a glider and i cant tell you how much i appreciate this video

    Thank you

  • I was looking at videos on unpowered aircraft and ended up here?! So while I'm here, can someone educate me? What's with the term "glider" as it applies to putting the shot? Is it the straight movement without spinning? If that's it, what's the fellow's name who started spinning, Oldfield, or something like that? Thanks, in advance. I'm going back to the aircraft now, but it's been fun.

  • thats right.

But i dont know who it was that started spining. Im a discusthrower not a shot puter. But you were right about the term glider.

  • TeamDiscus, Thanks for the feedback. It seemed like a logical guess, since all the puters in the video are old school chuckers.

  • @deezynar spinning shot put was not started by brian oldfield, it was started by aleksandr barishnakov of russia, however brian oldfield was the first one to start using it in america

  • @sandnigga2233

Hey, thanks for the reply and the info on Barishnikov. I did a quick search on him & shot put technique & the invention of spinning. A few articles credit Barishnikov, or rather his coach, & a few others say Oldfield independently & simultaneously invented it. I'm not a putter, but I think this is interesting & I'd love to see a video of the two men talking about it. I also learned that gliding only dates to '51. Cheers

  • @deezynar no problem and also Barishnikov was the first man over 22 meters

  • ulf timmermann is missing

one of the best gliders ever

  • and beyer, werner, and john brenner

  • this is true

  • Edward Sarul first world champion Helsinki 1983 from POLAND I remember everything your young colleague Daniel.

  • was Feuerbach the one in the 76 USA Olympic uniform?

  • which one was albritton?

  • Al Fuerbach was a beast. I got to meet him in my throwing days and he taught me allot. Word is in his day he cleared 80ft in practice.

  • I believe you've been told wrong. I saw an NTCA interview with him saying he did 73feet in practice or 22.50+ ? (or whatever it equals to) but he DIDN'T do 80feet.

  • udo beyer, ulf timmermann and gunthor should be in this video

  • you know some of these guys don't have the greatest power positions but there release is Phenomenal and that just goes to show you how important your release is

  • the kinda do the short long glide tech which I prefer. It leaves your base pretty damn wide

  • hahaha wtf?!!? Last throw of the vid was like...

Wow... You know when you're good at this when your projectile goes out of sight...

  • 70ft

  • I'm surprised that Timmermann and Gunthor aren't on there. But Still good combination of throws.

  • great video! i watch this every time i need inspiration

  • How died I miss this video? I saw most of these guys live...Dallas Long was so quick across the ring that it would take film to watch him.

  • awesome video. brings back great memories.

  • i watch this video like every fregging day and it NEVER gets old.

    ever.

  • Terrific shots. Great job of assembling this video.

  • All gliders that have doubts about the technique don't panic and switch to the spin. Just pull through it. Hail to the most explosive Shotput technique; the Glide. R.I.P Parry O'Brien! Gliders Own.

  • By far the best shot video!

  • i go to perry obrians high school

  • RIP Parry O'Brien! 1932-2007

  • i know i'm so bumed

  • gliders rule!

  • I live in a small town and I haven't really seen the glide done properly. Thanks for putting this up!

  • great video for my young son training to be a shot putter. thanks
