Dallas Long was also an exceptional strongman with long arms. is credited witha standing press of 320 for reps, pressing a pair of 160 pound dumbbells in each hand for 3 reps and bench pressing 500.

I was looking at videos on unpowered aircraft and ended up here?! So while I'm here, can someone educate me? What's with the term "glider" as it applies to putting the shot? Is it the straight movement without spinning? If that's it, what's the fellow's name who started spinning, Oldfield, or something like that? Thanks, in advance. I'm going back to the aircraft now, but it's been fun.
@deezynar spinning shot put was not started by brian oldfield, it was started by aleksandr barishnakov of russia, however brian oldfield was the first one to start using it in america
Hey, thanks for the reply and the info on Barishnikov. I did a quick search on him & shot put technique & the invention of spinning. A few articles credit Barishnikov, or rather his coach, & a few others say Oldfield independently & simultaneously invented it. I'm not a putter, but I think this is interesting & I'd love to see a video of the two men talking about it. I also learned that gliding only dates to '51. Cheers
I believe you've been told wrong. I saw an NTCA interview with him saying he did 73feet in practice or 22.50+ ? (or whatever it equals to) but he DIDN'T do 80feet.
you know some of these guys don't have the greatest power positions but there release is Phenomenal and that just goes to show you how important your release is
All gliders that have doubts about the technique don't panic and switch to the spin. Just pull through it. Hail to the most explosive Shotput technique; the Glide. R.I.P Parry O'Brien! Gliders Own.

Shorts were short.
And America dominated the throws.

thats right.
But i dont know who it was that started spining. Im a discusthrower not a shot puter. But you were right about the term glider.
TeamDiscus 2 years ago
TeamDiscus, Thanks for the feedback. It seemed like a logical guess, since all the puters in the video are old school chuckers.

Al Fuerbach was a beast. I got to meet him in my throwing days and he taught me allot. Word is in his day he cleared 80ft in practice.
