This is probably irrelevant due to the date - anyway, your problem is indeed dead pixels. This is usually due to extreme pressure on the iPhone. You will need to replace the LCD screen. I have heard of the pen/Sharpie fix, however, I am not sure it will work. Due to the fact the dead pixels are created by pressure, I don't think adding more pressure will help.
i dropped my phone and i think somone stepped on it and now i have similar lines,anyway i have noticed the longer you keep your iphone turnt on/using the screen the more it goes away but when you lock your iphone it seems to grow so try using you phone alot like play games or something and it should just slow dissaper like mine is almost gone hope this helps

@icebreaker552 i have an iphone 2g and i jailbroke it for about a year and a half then i 'unjailbroke' it and then these gray dots at the the top of the screen started to invade the status bar , i tried pusing hard with my thumband some went away , but your right PLEASE PLEASE never jailbreak your iphone, youll regret it :!
my iphone has cracked glass, the home button doesnt work, the volume buttons dont work , the silent switch doesnt work, most of the touchscreen works . i killed it :(

i tried it with the dried marker pen...it worked a little...but eventually the dead pixels invade the screen.

If you have a jailbreaked iPhone/iPod Touch, restore it and NEVER jailbreak it anymore! I have not tested that but it should works!
I have about 100 pixels dead on my iPhone 2g! JAILBREAK, DESTROY YOUR IPHONE/IPOD TOUCH "FOREVER"
