THEY SHOULD TAKE A VIDEO SHOOT ON THE MARSHALL AMP THAT SLASH WE'RE TESTING THAT TIME.FROM 0:00 TO 2:49 I WAS WAITING FOR THAT AMP TO SEE.,SSSHHEEEOOOWWW!
it is hard for me to say this, you r my mentor for 12 years slash why r u shaking your finger so much when playing solos?! why?! and you do it all the time in the last years. like- b.b king
and you need to get your sound from playing live in g'n'r or from recording "use your illusion" this is your sound !! for that and your touch you become sooo popular
and not only that.. you r playing alot but alot of scale more then ever with out any feeling atall like you r trying to prove something
@chyr7770 um you are not making any sense dude. IF you check out Tokyo 92 he's using alot of "vibrato" and scales there as well. Slash still plays with feel. All those things you pointed out he is completely unaware that he's doing it. He has nothing to prove, he just plays what he plays. If anything Slash's style is not as dirtier as it use to be but that came naturally with experience. He has said it in recent interview that he can't play as dirty as he use to because he's gained experience.
The AFD Les Paul and the AFD100 were an excellent idea. I am surprised he didn't think of it (or anyone else) along time ago. It brings him back full circle to his original sound (or as close as one can get). It sounds amazing live as well.
Nobody note it, but he play welcome to the jungle diferent from a lot of tabs, I tried search other tab that show it, but I didn't found, so I'm trying to do the same as he did.
Hey Steve Vai and Slash are both amazing guitar player, they have there own style so i think it's unfair to really compare them to each other. Badass amp regardless
@MrFreddiebrandt I understand what u are saying bro, love them both, but personally I think Vai is in a class above Slash, and I believe Slash himself would say that. I dont think Vai ever needed to be in a band as famous as GnR. I think a band like that wouldnt allow Vai to shine as much as he does away from bands. I mean Vai is no stranger to the whole band thing, I mean the David Lee Roth years, not to mention touring with Whitesnake. I think Vai is best on his own or doing the G3 stuff.
@PIlotrcm ...or Appetite For Destruction...dipshit. The amp was created based on the sounds Slash used on the Appetite album. Know what ur talking about before talking, please.
I just love to read the comments by young know it all players, there is no one defining album, slash didnt creat the tone the lick the Les Paul listen, open your ears and listen to what the music world has to offer in variety in styles and talent , past and present and when you can play like Django and Satriani then you can consider yourself an authority :-)
@RobertPaulGoode I don't think its sound EVH maybe a little but Eddie never had that much gain the original amp slash used to record AFD had another pre amp in the gain stage close to EVH but that close

I realize they wanted to keep a "documentary" feel to this presentation, but Marshall did themselves no favors here. We can't tell what that amp really sounds like. Those cabs are so directional. We're hearing them off axis, bouncing off the walls with a cheasy camcorder mic. They should have done a studio feed.
Let's not forget, Slash uses Alnico II pick ups which are not that high output and if anything, lower than say a Seymour Duncan Distortion etc...and it still sounds heavy. I just hope Marshall don't charge a king's ransom for it as it's now being designed to fit a Plexi 1959 head and not a JCM 800...I would've prefered the JCM head version.
Slash must be a pretty happy guy these days! think about it! he gets tons of repsect, gets to play music with musicians who want to play music! hes got Axl off his back! and both Gibson and Marshall are making products with his name on it!! how cool is that! I bet he found it hard to put his guitar down with that AFD100 in front of him :)
Some people go on and on about all those trendy speed players who a bunch of SHITTY albums behind them!! when i watch Slash play! and hear his guitar and Marshall amp! thats what reminds me of why I like rock music!! guitar players that rock!! and don't try to tell the world they are the best because they can play a million scales at warp factor 10
@Fender1976uk Exactly, I went to see him and it was the best experience of my entire life :D Slash just wins against anyone else, in my opinion, cos he is just awesome and a rock revolutionary
@Fender1976uk exactly..its all about what you create and slash is an amazing compositor and he rocks n fuckin rolls like hell...people are fuckin tools , they dont get it
well all they had to do is look up Tim Caswell , and mod the Marshall amp. Now they can sell it for a few thousand bucks. I bet it won't be under $2000
far from perfect, but it's on the right track. maybe it's just the way it's miced but to me it doesn't really sound close to the AFD or UYI tone at all. Hell, my Vintage Modern sounds much closer to those sounds than this. Then again, this is youtube so until I hear it in person I won't make a final judgement.
THe mids arent compressed enough, the highs need to be a little more articulate.
And that whole sound is just way to open and not compressed and kinda middy like the AFD sound should be.
Maybe its the recording, i can only go by what i hear, and right now i hear a really nice sounding amp, more like a hot rodded jcm 800 that i can get for 1200 and change. I hope this isnt the final version. You guys still have some work to do.
Get some sylvania 12ax7 pre 1970's, Something.....not perfect
@fenderboy08 slash said it was easily duplicated and said santiago pulled it off, he then took it on the road, so im thinking if they do still make a few changes that they arent going to be big changes because everyone seems happy with it,
I know its a prototype. I hope this isnt the final prototype.
@SteveBrownOfficial It seems, what you hear on Illusions is Silver Jubilee...Slash wrote in his book, that the original #34 modified Appetite amp was taken back away by SIR company in 1989...
Frustrating how they don't at least give us a snap shot of what the amp looks like. For UK folk, I can only assume this amp will be showcased at London's Music Show in October...with a release in late 2010, early 2011????
Having 4 x 6550s and five ecc83s, it will be a hot rodded amp no doubt.
@5150VanAlien They will be showcasing this amp in Hollywood and call it "Slash Day" but its not confirmed yet. The music shop at which I work in the UK, Our rep for marshall came in and was telling us about it. There is no given date as of when it will be showcased In the UK but the rep said who knows. He also said a release date around November time but that's not confirmed either. Thanks, Joel.
Thanks for the heads up. Marshall always hold their cards close to their chest as this can generate further interest in prducts. Basic strategic marketing really. It would seem too odd if Marshall didn't show case this at London's music show in October as Marshall occupies usually the largest stand and prominently placed close to when you enter. Therefore, their presence is big and close. They might have a booth too to showcase it...we'll see but I'm convinced this is the way.
@bailey12444 I could imagine, being a hotrodded Marshall with 4 x 6550s and a signature amp...my guess is over £1,200 in the UK. The handwired heads are around £1,100 and the JCM 800 reissues are around £1,000. I just hope Marshall improve on quality control, fit and finish and reliability for that premium.
@copilottheband One channel is OK, but how about instant change to clean channel? pedal like singel pad? im getting a VM but worry about the one channel thing
This is not even funny how close that is to the original guitar sound on the album. I was blown away.
The only thing is, why these are perfect for Slash and his sound, shouldn't all of us be trying to find our own tone rather than buying another dude's amp???
@chooseyourblues well, technically, the legendary #39 Super Lead Tremolo has been known for a while now as Slash's AFD amp. I'm surprised it took them/Slash this long to get a clone of it. Tim Caswell, the original modder of the #39, has been making clones for a bit, and it's documented as to what mods were done to it. ;)
@chooseyourblues Yeah, we should be finding our own tones. The only people who should actually buy this amp are those rich guys that already have a vintage collection. Even in that case, they can probably get closer to the tone this amp offers. Don't be fooled, folks.

I bet he found it hard to put his guitar down with that AFD100 in front of him :)

Some people go on and on about all those trendy speed players who a bunch of SHITTY albums behind them!! when i watch Slash play! and hear his guitar and Marshall amp! thats what reminds me of why I like rock music!! guitar players that rock!! and don't try to tell the world they are the best because they can play a million scales at warp factor 10

well all they had to do is look up Tim Caswell , and mod the Marshall amp.

Then again, this is youtube so until I hear it in person I won't make a final judgement.
rockfreak611 1 year ago
@rockfreak61
Slash used a JCM 800 in UYI. This is only the AFD amp tone he is trying to get.
newkurosawa 1 year ago
@newkurosawa i thought this amp featured a switch to toggle between the #34 and #39 mod. Maybe I've been misinformed.
rockfreak611 1 year ago
THe mids arent compressed enough, the highs need to be a little more articulate.
And that whole sound is just way to open and not compressed and kinda middy like the AFD sound should be.
Maybe its the recording, i can only go by what i hear, and right now i hear a really nice sounding amp, more like a hot rodded jcm 800 that i can get for 1200 and change. I hope this isnt the final version. You guys still have some work to do.
Get some sylvania 12ax7 pre 1970's, Something.....not perfect
CMajor5th 1 year ago
...PROTOTYPE. They've already made changes to the amp that you're hearing in this video.
drone713 1 year ago
@CMajor5th of course its not the final version......... thts y its called a prototype!
fenderboy08 1 year ago
@fenderboy08 slash said it was easily duplicated and said santiago pulled it off, he then took it on the road, so im thinking if they do still make a few changes that they arent going to be big changes because everyone seems happy with it,
I know its a prototype. I hope this isnt the final prototype.

@SteveBrownOfficial It seems, what you hear on Illusions is Silver Jubilee...Slash wrote in his book, that the original #34 modified Appetite amp was taken back away by SIR company in 1989...
individrus 1 year ago
@SteveBrownOfficial
The AFD 100 will be switchable to the #34 amp mod... aka to sound like the amp used on USe Your Illusions! :-)

Then get the Marshall Jubilee

Frustrating how they don't at least give us a snap shot of what the amp looks like. For UK folk, I can only assume this amp will be showcased at London's Music Show in October...with a release in late 2010, early 2011????
Having 4 x 6550s and five ecc83s, it will be a hot rodded amp no doubt.
5150VanAlien 1 year ago
@5150VanAlien They will be showcasing this amp in Hollywood and call it "Slash Day" but its not confirmed yet. The music shop at which I work in the UK, Our rep for marshall came in and was telling us about it. There is no given date as of when it will be showcased In the UK but the rep said who knows. He also said a release date around November time but that's not confirmed either. Thanks, Joel.
MrGuitarboy100 1 year ago
Thanks for the heads up. Marshall always hold their cards close to their chest as this can generate further interest in prducts. Basic strategic marketing really. It would seem too odd if Marshall didn't show case this at London's music show in October as Marshall occupies usually the largest stand and prominently placed close to when you enter. Therefore, their presence is big and close. They might have a booth too to showcase it...we'll see but I'm convinced this is the way.
5150VanAlien 1 year ago
how much. anybody knows?
bailey12444 1 year ago
@bailey12444 I could imagine, being a hotrodded Marshall with 4 x 6550s and a signature amp...my guess is over £1,200 in the UK. The handwired heads are around £1,100 and the JCM 800 reissues are around £1,000. I just hope Marshall improve on quality control, fit and finish and reliability for that premium.

wat? one channel again? this isn't just an official VM mod rite?
I mean I channel is OK for switching between clean and OD but how about the EQ? using a pedal?
oursonvie 1 year ago
@oursonvie VM? lolwat? if it's a proper clone of the amp used on Appetite, like it's supposed to be, it should be a modified 59' Super Lead Tremolo.
One channel is just fine for me. Roll down your volume knob and you get some nice rounded cleans.
copilottheband 1 year ago
@copilottheband One channel is OK, but how about instant change to clean channel? pedal like singel pad? im getting a VM but worry about the one channel thing
oursonvie 1 year ago
@oursonvie What? It is instant. I use an SG, which has independent volume controls.
I roll down the neck volume and use the pickup selector to switch between them...works pretty fast.

This is not even funny how close that is to the original guitar sound on the album. I was blown away.
The only thing is, why these are perfect for Slash and his sound, shouldn't all of us be trying to find our own tone rather than buying another dude's amp???
chooseyourblues 1 year ago
@chooseyourblues well, technically, the legendary #39 Super Lead Tremolo has been known for a while now as Slash's AFD amp. I'm surprised it took them/Slash this long to get a clone of it. Tim Caswell, the original modder of the #39, has been making clones for a bit, and it's documented as to what mods were done to it. ;)
copilottheband 1 year ago
@chooseyourblues Yeah, we should be finding our own tones. The only people who should actually buy this amp are those rich guys that already have a vintage collection. Even in that case, they can probably get closer to the tone this amp offers. Don't be fooled, folks.
