  • Bird liked Jalen, it was Larry Brown that hated him.

  • Kobe drops 81

  • IN THE TRAINERS FUCKIN LAP!

  • It's amazing how rough the games were played back in the Bird-Johnson era. Defense was so thight, it's almost unsafe to be the one handling the ball much less to be the one making the shot. With that, a team game had be equally thight to keep the ball moving and make the defense keep guessing. And then, off course, a big somebody comes along, brakes all the rules and re-invented the game almost overnight.

  • If Bird did not suffer all those injuries he would be called Larry GOD!! Go watch

When the game was ours on YT.

Bird had a screwed up finger on his shooting hand BEFORE he played for the Celtics.

  • @geocgeo

He would have been a better shooter as hard as that is to believe.

  • BIRD!!On November 9, 1984, Bird was ejected along with Julius Erving in the third quarter after an on court scuffle. At the point of both ejections, Bird had outscored Erving 42 to 6. During the game, Bird had continuously informed Erving of their tallies with every chance he got to score. Bird denies this stating that it was teammate "M.L. Carr talking trash from the bench" during that game. Eventually a shoving match ensued, then swings taken by both players, and finally a bench-clearing brawl

  • from 1980 thru 1988 Bird was the best ever. Then Michael took over because Bird was 30 years old and took a beating on the court from playing hard.

  • doc rivers huge ass nose LOL, this guy was a good ass player though no doubt, miss the old days

  • Wow never saw the other team enjoy getting worked like that. Think about the racial angle and don't kid yourself race in the NBA is a hot topic maybe not as much among the players but to the everyday fan it 's meaningful. Bird said in a game one time he was pissed the other team thought they should put a white player on to guard him. He knew the game is dominated by Black players & he saw him self as equal

  • Mike Fratello must have said a lot more and not in those words Doc...LOL

  • larry bird second best player of all time

  • @Vergecurtis he is first CLEARLY nobody has his SKILL . NOBODY

  • @liveamovie naah, i'am a big larry bird fan but jordan just is ahead on the defensive side of the court and accomplishments.

  • That game is my favorite game of all time. The shot Bird makes in the last seconds of the 3rd quarter is absolutely amazing. You can actually get this game on DVD. It comes with the "Larry Bird, A Basketball Legend" documentary on DVD.

  • funny how he coaches that team now lol

  • still waiting to see a white guy like larry bird in this generation... haven't found any yet :(

  • @aznguy11111 dont keep ya hopes up bro lol

  • Doc Rivers is a good man.

  • Doc is a good story teller

  • LMAO at 1:20!!!!!! Never seen that shit, wow. Bird was a god, period.

  • I've watched that game a few times. His shooting was sublime, he could score 60 and look unselfish doing it. It's a fun game to watch

  • F'ing awesome.....doesn't matter what level of ball you've ever played....if you've ever gotten into "the zone" its something to behold....Larry just did it on a regular basis at the ultimate level as many of the great ones do. And its something other athletes can appreciate ...and in this case enjoy! Gotta love it....ya just have to!

  • this is fucking awesome

  • love the hawks bench reaction

  • Jesus guys, you need to stfu. Anyway, awesome video with some very cool commentary. There have been some special players in the NBA, and Bird was one of them.

  • As Andy Jick (Boston's Public Address anouncer then) would say: "...and at forward from Indiana State, 6 foot 9, number thirrrttyyy threeeeee....Larrrrrry Bird!"

  • Look how young Doc looks!

  • fuck, you got a huge beek doc

  • Larry was playing chess...........when everybody else was playing checkers.

  • Bird doesn't need to be validated by this basketball I.Q. crap; something that is unquantifiable.

He's just one of the greatest basketball players of all time.

In terms of that phrase,'basketball I.Q', as it's usually used and as nebulous as it is, Isiah Thomas, who many commentators are dismissing here, would surely be near the top. And Michael Jordan would probably be at the top.

  • Larry Bird is definitely top 5, maybe even top 3 !

  • I've noticed this a lot and it's kind of weird. A lot of NBA players when they're in an interview will start laughing at something and then in a split second start talking serious. It's like they're enjoying it and then suddenly they become self conscious lol.

  • Zeke deserves more respect than being called an Idiot. But I guess Celtic fans have a special dislike for any Piston. Me on the other hand West Coast GSW fan , not biased thinks Bird certainly was better but if Zeke was 6'9 and not 6' he would have been better or even 6'6"

  • A week or ten days earlier McHale had scored 50-something to break Bird's Celtic scoring record. I remember reading at the time that everyone on the Celtics knew it was just a matter of time, and probably not too much time, until Bird took the record back.

  • The reaction of the Hawks bench pretty much sums it all up.

  • 5 All-Time greatest basketball IQ's...

    Larry Bird

    Bill Russell

    Magic Johnson

    John Stockton

    Tim Duncan

  • how much gruffer has doc's voice got from all of the yelling due to coaching!

  • bird is a top 7 off all time

  • some of the Bird vs Jordan comments here made me laugh

You can't say Bird was better than Jordan-Why?

Because BIRD even said Jordan was better than him, and Bird is a very proud man-but also very honest

Bird said God was disguised as MJ after the 63 pt game , and also that there was only one man in the league that could do 'that' after another memorable performance

that said, Bird was beyond awesome and a joy to watch

Kobe<Jordan...Kobe wasn't even the main man in his early titles

  • @PorkFrog Good points but a bit unfair on Kobe. Shaq was the best player on the first title. But Kobe broke out in game 2 of that finals after Shaq fouled out. The next 2 Kobe was the best player but Shaq was more important because nobody could match up with him. In crunch time Kobe had the ball. And Kobe does have 2 rings w/out Shaq. Magic has 0 w/o Kareem, Bird has 0 w/o Mchale and Parrish. IMO kobe is best Laker of all time. A little better than Bird (more rings better d) but not MJ>

  • @arshort2 kobe doesnt have jack shit without shaq dude dont kid yourself into thinking that

  • @arshort2 tell it EXACTLY like it is man....KOBE is the real deal, been playing ball since 1996, he's hated because he's always had the goal to surpass JORDAN.....KOBE is the greatest laker of all time because he was willing to go thru a rebuilding phase before another championship team was built around him, MAGIC would not have done that....KOBE is definitely in the top 5 of the greatest to ever play this game..period, and w/one more ring, he stands only behind JORDAN and KAREEM

  • @scorpionJB lol he demanded a trade once the lakers were without shaq....zzz

i still dont know how it didnt go through.

  • @TheBoiFlip Kobe said that to force management to acquire more talent, he was never going to leave the lakers

  • @scorpionJB Well before Jordan many considered Magic to be the greatest ever and his individual accomplishments prove it. Nobody has more individual accolades than Jordan and Magic. But Magic proclaimed Kobe the greatest Laker ever which is still debatable. But is he the most skilled all-around Laker player? You'd have to be a fool to say he isn't. But as far as the greatest Laker I still go with Magic for now. But Kobe is still the greatest player post Magic and Jordan era.

  • @ralx225b Greatest perimeter player, yes. As far as greatest player, I would give Shaq or Duncan the nod.

  • @max6413 No sorry I disagree Kobe has yet to see his game decline in his 30's while Duncan and Shaq are watching their play diminish. Like Jordan Kobe has found a way to keep a high level of play despite his physical prowess slowly decreasing due to age. Magic even found a way to get over this and if it wasn't for him contracting HIV he would have played much longer than he did.

  • @scorpionJB Kobe is still behind Larry and Magic because he isn't the complete player those guys are. I think at best Kobe is in the top 7.

  • @bull864 what you mean not complete, this dude has played in the nba for 15 seasons, his body hasn't broken down after all that time, he played ever game this season, even coming of an offseason knee surgery, the scariest twisted ankle i've ever seen...MAGIC would not have been willing to go thru a rebuilding phase w/the LAKERS, KOBE has 2 more rings than BIRD who played w/the greatest frontcourt of all time, he's tied w/MAGIC and has all the laker scoring records and he's only 32.

  • @scorpionJB Do you not understand complete player? Bryant is a great scorer and on-ball defender, but he falls short of Bird and Magic in the intangibles area. Besides, Bird has only three rings because the competition was much better in the 80's, even though the NBA has gotten a little better. The greatest front-line? Maybe, but ask McHale and Parish how much better Larry made them. As far as his age, he has played 15 seasons and Bird played 13, only healthy for 10 at most.

  • @bull864 the hate is recordbreaking....Bryant has no intangibles?....no intangibles for a guy who has 5 rings, and please don't rely on the notion that Shaq helped him win 3 of those rings, because Shaq has one a grand total of one championship since leaving the lakers and that 4 rings happened 5 years ago for which he proved not to be a vital reason why, for game 6 against miami heat, most of the minutes were going to alonzo mourning and adonis haslem...

  • @scorpionJB If it wasn't for shaq kobe would never had won those 3 titles... Again kobe as good as he is isn't in the league of micheal jordan, magic johnson and even larry bird.. you put shaq in his prime on a team with any those 3 any they win 5 titles or more ... Shaq helped make kobe to what he is today.

  • @caboverde100 haterization part 2.....this is why there's only a handful of people who truly know basketball...JORDAN wouldn't have got his 2nd title when the bulls were losing to portand by 17 points in game 6 of the 92 finals if the bulls bench (inserted into the game by phil jackson) didn't start the greatest rally of all time, thus putting jordan, pippen, paxson, grant, and cartright to build on the momentum that the bench built in order to close out the game, because it takes A TEAM to win

  • @caboverde100 if the bulls bench don't rally in that game 6, history would not have went down like it did, that's why you have coaches who know things that fans watching tv don't know....as far as SHAQ and the "perceived notion" that he made KOBE, that's crazy too, if it wasn't for ROBERT HORRY hitting the game winning shot against the KINGS during game 4 of the wcf's, no laker in uniform 3peats, including SHAQ...

  • @scorpionJB shaq led the Lakers to 3 rings, if you dont believe me just look at the numbers.

  • @caboverde100 SHAQ didn't make KOBE, that's another opinion motivated by hate.....JERRY WEST traded for KOBE because he said (and JERRY'S one of the greatest players of all time) said he never say anyone, ANYONE who possessed the basketball talent KOBE had coming out of high school, I'm not talking about athleticism, I'm talkin about skill set and advanced ability to excel in the pro game.this is why I don't trip off of youtube posts, I listen to people who play this game, coached it, or scouted

  • @scorpionJB West also called Kwame Brown an Awesome prospect....

  • look kobe is basically a one dimensional player and a little more .... Kobe is a great scorer and can play some defense at times while micheal jordan or even magic johnson and bird in their primes could score and do much more then that ... They made the players around them that much better.... So don't hate that micheal jordon is the best to ever do it ...It's a clear logic choice if you could choose who in their prime you would pick .. MICHEAL JORDON hands down!!!!

  • @caboverde100

He definitely helped KB preserve his body from being the focus of the D those years. (ie. all those double teams against Shaq). Even against Gasol.

MJ faced the double team ALL his career.. no other player on his team did on a consistent basis.

  • @bull864 that's the danger of comparing players from one generation to the next, yes, I love the 80's nba era, it was the best era ever, even better than the 90's bulls era which took place after the nba expanded 4 times from 1989 to 1995, diluting the talent across the board, thus relying on high school talent to fill the void, so if bird only won 3 titles due to the level of competition, than if the bulls played in the 80's, they wouldn't have won the 6 titles they did..

  • @bull864 and yes, I always recognized that jordan, bird, magic represented the "Holy trinity" of basketball, it was great stuff, but there's been a ton of great players who have played major ball over the past 20 years...oh yes, boston celtics featured the greatest frontine in history considering the fact boston advanced to the finals 4 years straight from 84-87.

  • @bull864 I guarantee you that KOBE would have thrived in 80's basketball, if you are a great player, your skill set will allow you to adjust to any style of play that particular era dictates...KOBE won 3 straight titles, then despite of the reason why, went thru a rebuilding phase of 3 years before returning back the lakers returned back to championship level, I don't even think MAGIC would have been willing to go thru a rebuilding phase. that's intangibles

  • @scorpionJB kobe isn't micheal jordan by far nor will he ever be lets get that straight.

  • @caboverde100 you must specialize in selective reading....where did I ever say that KOBE was the best basketball player of all time....see, that haterization makes people skip words and jumps to conclusions...so let's get that straight...

  • @arshort2 You're discounting Gasol, Bynum, and Odom; they aren't exactly second rate players. As has been chronicled at great length, the Lakers were fairly mediocre until Gasol arrived, and they currently have the highest payroll in the NBA. Kobe hasn't won those titles on his own, and he hasn't exactly played that great offensively in the finals.

  • @hoopfan71 I'm not discounting those guys. No one has done it solo. But Gasol never won a playoff game w/o Kobe, Lamar never won anything either. The Lakers were mediocre because they were starting Smush Parker, Kwame Brown, Luke Walton, and Lamar Odom with Kobe. That's not a lot. Jordan had Pippen, Duncan had help, Russell had a slew of HOF, Bird had 2 HOF guys, Magic and Kareem had each other. Kobe is the only player held to the teammate standard. He's top 10, prob top 5, maybe number 2

  • Who cares if Doc put on some weight? He's older, just like Larry, MJ, Magic, Barkley... No one really stays the same weight as when they was younger.

  • Look at the young Doc..he's really put on some weight

  • Hilarious! When the opposing ench are cheering you on you are having a good night.

  • I LOVE doc Rivers, and he called it right,... Larry was a MOTHER FUCKER!!

  • What's up Doc? yep, it was awesome and still is.

  • why what is bird doing at 1:15?

  • "Where you want this one from?" lol Bird talked great trash.

  • you are on the money texaspsycho!

  • The hawk players know that a one in a lifetime players was playing his ass off. Pay Homage to the great one.

  • The hawks bench, that was hilarious

  • maravich influenced bird i wonder..seems so

  • Obviously...

  • holy crap, that had me laughing my ass off!! hilarious the hawks bench!

  • The Hawks players could not contain their emotions that night. I remember watching this game on the television. Bird was hitting from everywhere and against multiple defenders.

  • One of the best basketball stories with video proof I've ever seen

  • Larry Bird is in the top 10 players of all time but I'll say this. His bascket ball I.Q. is unmatched.

  • Actually he's not. Bird was probably one of the top 3 players of all time. Jordan, Bird and Magic were the 3 greatest players. After that, it doesn't matter. They played when it mattered most, when you could be tackled and it wouldn't be called a foul.

  • We also forget that Dennis Johnson had a high basketball IQ. He knew when to let Bird control the game, and when to take over at point, and find Bird running around screens.

  • @asher1112 Top 5 all time you mean

  • @asher1112 Bird is in my top three. Jordan, Bird, Magic

  • @asher1112 hes number 3 or 4 all time in my books mayne.

  • @asher1112 There isn't another SF equal to him though.....Dr. J, Wilkins, Gervin, Lebron, King, Aguerre, Pippen didn't surpass him....Lebron has a chance, but not yet...even up to this point his athleticism sortof masks his skill...We'll see how he does without it later...will he be another Vince Carter? Even still Lebron came 30 years later...so that tells us how great bird really was. Top 5 not top 10 for me.

  • @usnate1

im sorri lols, but lebron isnt even CLOSE to bird lols

the fag is a pussi who masks his pussiness by matchin up with another superstar lols

can u see bird goin with dominique? lols hell no fagit lols ;.

bird was a freakin MAN a godamm beast in his prime that bounded like a pf, stole like a guard, shot like a guard, posted like a pf. and was clutch like jordan lols,....

there will be another magic, another shaq, another etc, lols

THERE WILL NEVER BE ANOTHER LARRY BIRD!

  • @asher1112

If by top 10, you mean as in #1 is in the top 10 then yea I agree with you completely.

  • @asher1112 Top 10? Top 3.

  • Yeah, I have this game on DVD, great game, absolutely great game all-around, and, Larry Bird was simply lights out as well, of course, obviously, LOL. Thanks for posting this for us..!!

  • @UnionKid15 No problem.

  • @UnionKid15 On what dvd are you talking about? Is this the Celtics legacy or what? What is the dvd title?

  • @Mgear1217 it's called "Larry Bird: A Basketball Legend" it has an hour long biography of his life and basketball career, to go along with 3 of his greatest games, those being, this one- his 60 point game, a 49 point game against the trail blazers in 1992 and the entire game in which he dueled with nique in the 4th quarter. it's a must-have.

  • @UnionKid15 cool, thanks for the info. By the way, do you have the "Celtics Legacy" dvd (not sure if that is the right title). It is the history of Celtics from the beginning till Larry Bird came along. Do you have any info on this dvd? What I want to know is, is there a full game included in that dvd? Like MJ has on his dvd. I loved the Celtics when Larry was their leader, cause those where the time when Basketball really meant something.

  • @Mgear1217 if u mean the NBA dynasty series: the boston celtics: the complete history, then yes, I do have that one as well. It has tons of complete games, well worth the money.

  • @UnionKid15 how did you get it on dvd if its more than 15 years old?

  • @frusionnn Just look it up on amazon.com brother.

  • @UnionKid15 where do you get games on DVD?

  • @LebronMVP4LIFE

    amazon.com dude.

  • lol, look at that Hawks bench

  • i'm proud to say i watched Larry Bird during his whole NBA career in Boston..Got out to see him a couple times which was impossible to do back then but he simply was one of the best ever..For a guy who had no athletic abilty he beat u with his brain and heart..It was even better watching those celtic teams play on the road..everywhere they went it was a sell out and half or more of the fans in attendence rooted for bird and the Celtics. We won't see a player like Bird again.

  • I think people get a little confused when they say Bird had no athletic ability. Yes he was slow and couldn't jump but he had amazing hand eye coordination. I always thought with his eye, he could have been a good baseball player too. You don't get as far as Bird with just guts and brains, he had to have some natural talent too.

  • @Flipper79able The guy was an NBA superstar in the time of NBA gods. He was one of the most athletic men on earth at this time, speed, jumping etc. Come on its Basketball not Baseball, the entry level of the NBA is elite physical status. You think cause hes not black dude was slow? You think cause hes not all cut up like a black dude hes weak? Look at Docs face and the dudes mesmerized on the bench, and tell me they think this dudes a white chump. His game and physical prowess is right there.

  • @Flipper79able

Yea. Bird was an amazing passer and he could do everything even if off balance. I would imagine had he played QB in the NFL, he might be considered the best of all-time. That's why I loved watching Brett Favre. He made a bunch of amazing passes that reminded me of the thing Larry Bird did on the basketball court.

  • The only thing Dirk has in common with Bird is his race.

  • Agreed. I don't know why youngsters compare Dirk to Larry. It's a damn insult. Bird was one of the top 5 to ever play the game. Dirk is not is not even in the top 200. Bird had the complete game, could do it all. In fact Bird even played point guard for a stretch and averaged triple doubles. Dirk is a scrub compared to Bird. Bird could do unimaginable things with the basketball.

Please, for chrissakes, stop the Dirk/Bird comparisons.

  • Larry was far greater than Dirk, but Dirk is amazing as well, certainly in the top 100 players ever, and probably in the top 60 or 70.

To me Bird is the best ever, better than Jordan.

  • You are overrating Dirk. There's nothing amazing about him. He's a goofy, uncoordinated guy. A 7 footer who can't post up, and of course he's useless on defense.

Jordan was the perfect player. He was flawless. Bird was great but had a multitude of flaws. Bird even admitted that Jordan was better him. Mind you, Jordan is the only player Bird gave that honor. Bird never said any other player was better than him.

  • I know Bird has said that Jordan is better, but he's wrong. Bird is the best ever. No way Jordan wins 6 rings going against 80's teams like the Celtics, Sixers, Lakers, and Pistons. Jordan is top ten best ever, but he's not as good as Bird, despite all the hype. As far as Dirk is concerned I wouldn't call a guy who is 7 feet and can shoot 3's, can drop 50 points in a heated playoff game, has a career 22.7 point average, and has consistently gotten the Mavericks into the playoffs a "goofy guy."

  • Dirk ain't that good. Can he pass? No. Can he defend? No. Does he have a post game? No. Can he block shots? No. Can he create? No. Is he clutch? No. About all that's left is shooting jumpers. Well, plenty of better jumpshooters are either riding pine or out of the league.

Bird admitted Jordan was better. I'll take it from the horses mouth. Bird was great. Jordan was simply otherworldly and perfect. No single flaw in his game. Not just an athlete, also great fundamentally and cerebral.

  • Plenty of better jumpshooters? Damn man, I'd like to see you stop a 7footer fading away and shooting from behind his head.

  • @sethaus75 I'd take bird over jordan but thats my opinion

  • @2pac510707 no disrespect but thats a bad opinion lol

  • @BigSAK88 No disrespect but I even think Kobe is better than jordan

  • @2pac510707 Im a kobe fan lol so none taken what so ever ... but even i have to admit jordan is better than bird... he was too unstoppable ....and kobes better than bird as well

  • @BigSAK88 Only a kobe fan would say something as ignorant as "KOBE IS BETTER THAN BIRD" I agree Kobe is better than Jordan though

  • @BigSAK88 Your a retard LOL

  • @BigSAK88 omg......you're retarded.....not even gonna argue with you....

  • @Spanishade man you bird fans really are delusional and bitter!

  • Really, I believe your getting your players mixed up. Larry Bird said Magic was the best player he has ever seen and the best he has ever played against. Jordan Flawless? Please, Jordan was great, but not flawless. You really think Jordan made his team better the way Bird did? Bird got everyone in the game, watch Bird highlights and it is like art, crisp passing, shooting, finding an open man, watch Jordan, it is just no matter how many people you have guard me, I will get a shot off

  • Bird never said Magic was better. Magic was not better than Bird, imo. But Jordan is universally acknowledged as the best to ever play the game. Bird concurs with that. Bird said early on, when the Bulls stunk and Jordan was a relative unknown, that Jordan was better than him.

  • dirk is not a scrub . bird is better but you dont say dirk is a scrub. jeez you dont watch NBA at all. i think you just watch highlight reels...not the WHOLE game

  • Even the Hawks players were bugging out at Bird's last shot. I mean, you just have to respect the skill that Bird displayed, but if even the opposite team is just dazzled, you know what time this is.

  • well said

  • the highlight reel of LARRY SCORING 60 ON THE HAWKS SHOWS HOW MUCH HE COULD SCORE WHEN HE WANTED TO--UNREAL BETTER THAN THE TWO GLASSES OF WINE IM SIPPIN ON

  • has dirk ever gotten reactions from opponents, announcers or fans the way bird did? i don't think so

  • SMH LARRY WAS A BEAST .

  • damn docs voice changed a lot of the past 13 years

  • it sounds exactly the same

  • haha, classic!

  • I heard this game on the radio and I remember the announcers saying over and over that the atlanta bench was cheering for Bird more than all of the fans. haha, good stuff

  • I remember that game. The best part was Atlanta's bench.

What was so great about that was the fact that he did it about a weke after Kevin McHale had gone for 56 against Detroit, a Celtics regular season record. Bird apparently said something like "That record will not stand"

  • Actually, what happened was, reporters asked McHale about the record and he said something along the lines of "I don't know if Larry is gonna let it stand."

  • LARRY LEGEND

  • larry was unbeadable

  • Larry was the man.

  • The good ol days..... Lakers vs Celtics every June.... i miss those days, except those hoe shorts...

  • damn, you know you da man if players on the opposing team is cheering for you...

  • you both make good points...

  • holy shit doc looks like a high school student in this!! haha

  • Well, Isiah Thomas was an idiot!. Larry Bird was great, definitely better than Rodman and Thomas put together.

  • @supersaynboy bird and rodman? are you really making that comparison? They were two totally different players rodman was a 17 plus rebounder a game and he was a in your head lock down defender. Bird was a scorer mainly so if you put isiah thomas ball skills and scoring capabilities with rodman rebounding and defensive abilities Bird wouldnt come close. thats just a stupid coment and you have 13 other stupid people who like it LMAo!!

  • @popp2crazy nice try knowitall but wrong. Rodman was a good rebounder, but one reason he got so many is because THAT IS ALL HE DID. On offense he wasnt even part of the sets, did nothing but crash the boards. For his career he averaged 4.8 offensive boards and 8.4 defensive. Bird, who obviously wasn't going to get many O-boards with the offense running through him, was 2.0 and 8.0. Far better shooter than Isiah, better half court passer, underated defender, Close, but I'd still take Bird

  • @jefffawcett hey dummy rodman used to score plenty even hit a few threes but mainly he was a defensive player and a rebounding machine. Why would you need to score when u had greats like micheal jordan and scottie pippen? Your comparing isaih thomas to bird? wtf again totally diff players.. how am i a know it all? sounds like u just got bored and wanted to try to sound smart??

  • @popp2crazy Bird was a scorer mainly? He averaged like 7assists and 8 rebounds for his career! An all-around great player and the best small forward of all time.

  • OMG, DC was handsome LOL

  • Bird was friggin awesome man!

  • nice story telling doc.

  • WTF? The Hawks' bench was cheering for Larry Legend! :D

  • anyone notice the first guy on this video is doc rivers, current celtics coach? lol

  • jesus christ you're retarded

  • lmao gregieke

  • lmao fureal

  • who tha fuck was Thumper Newman?

  • "that night was not awesome.." LOL Bird was an amazing player. Definitely have many great memories watching them back in the 80's & 90's

  • I watched this game..It was amazing to see..I love the NBA back in the 80's

  • greatest trash-talker of all time. and like ali and jordan, he always backed it up.

  • GREAT basketball player....No doubt, one of the very best TOP 15

  • That really isn't much of a task...Even some centers from that time fit the bill...Arvydas Romas Sabonis, Robert Parish, Bill Walton, Moses Malone, Hakeem Olajowon...

  • Dirk's not a great athlete either.

  • Even the Hawks bench is cheering for Bird on that last shot.

  • Dirk better than Bird? Lol! Ok, Dirk is a faster runner and higher leaper, but that's it for his superiority over Bird. Bird's a better shooter (especially in the clutch), post-up player, rebounder, passer, ball handler, and free throw shooter. Larry also had the superior basketball IQ. And despite being shorter and without hops, he was still a way better rebounder. Look people, Larry is the most complete player, skill wise, ever. And this is from the NBA Logo's mouth (Jerry West), not mine.

  • Ariamaluum: Only if your're idea of a guy who made the All-Defensive Second Team (1982, '83, '84) three years in a row is not a good defender.

It's like Red said "The one thing you have to avoid when discussing Bird is stats. It's his presence, the total way that he damands attention on the court that counts."

  • Forwards were not really that good defensively with only Bobby Jones, Michael Cooper, Caldwell Jones, and Buck Williams. Bird was more like Don Buse who stole lot of passes but not a stopper like Jerry Sloan or John Havlicek who by the way wasfirst team defense, 5 times and second team defense, 4 times. Maurice Lucas was a better post defender but he wasn't named at all in the 80's.

  • ignorant statement from a guy who probably was born in 1995.

he was a 3 time all nba 2nd team defender, probably one of the best team defenders of all time, was a GREAT defensive rebounder.

I mean cmon, how can you say that when arguably his most memorable play (steal from Isiah) was on defense?
