  • Sorry,I meant to say Trudie is holding little Mickey (Bridget Michael)

  • That's little Fuscia (Kate) who is being held by Trudie- not Joe. :-)

  • IS THAT YOUNG ROSS GELLER AT 0:21 ?????

  • omar IS DRUMS¨!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This is so lame compared to The Police.

  • BRANNNNNNNNNNNFORDDD!!!!!! burning soprano solo!

  • Love how Copland is standing above examining the situation and looking at Omar like, "yeah, he's awesome"

  • @RobbieMcDougall That's not Copeland.

  • @jalphabet5 On the balcony at 30 seconds? I thought it was him. My bad.

  • @RobbieMcDougall There is a resemblance. This guy looks like someone from one of those 80's teenage coming of age movies. I expected to see Molly Ringwald standing next to him.

  • @jalphabet5 lol

  • These were the days... Daryl "Munch" Jones was skinny and Kenny Kirkland was still alive... What an amazing band.

  • I remember how thrilling it was to watch this at The Beverly Center in SoCal when this ran in the theaters. Still sounds tight. Sting is full of himself but I can't deny his talent. Omar Hakim is smooth and slammin. Wow.

  • Is that Artie Fufkin at 0:21?

  • To this day this is hands down, THE tightest most funky, most rock solid rhythm section I have every heard at any level. Musicians aspire their whole lives to be involved in something that is this tight.

  • Would somebody please upload the Flitstones part?

  • i really never liked stings music that much and that includes this nd theres way too much sax in there for me

  • this vhs at the time changed my whole outlook on the direction I was gonna go playing drums unbeleivable this was the bible of playing in my time awesome.

  • Classic! use to watch this back at music school. 1000% musicianship

  • this just proves how self obsessed sting is

  • Omar Akim..such a good drummer

  • BAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • sting sting sting, whats with the normal look, no crazy shirt or hair do? xD

  • the camera guys' dance was the old soulja boy

  • Both hakim and copeland are drumming legends

  • omar hakim is groove master

  • I always loved these rehearsal takes man !!!

    Thanks for posting

  • Looks like John Oates at :20

  • It brings me back very, very good memories when I saw this concert here in Vienna many years ago.

One of the best musicans I´ve ever seen playing together.

  • wooOOoow!

    brandford !!!!!!

  • wooow!! my favourite sting song!!!

  • da best one of da best ever people. you knowed it from time. no doubt .

  • i have the video for this on vhs, wil try to digitise the whole thing, its a great documentry. i have defo nearly worn it out

  • this is from the movie bring on the night...

  • He may have a resemblance, but are you sure is him?

  • I like the crazy camera guys.

  • Amazing! Not often you get this kind of talent in popular music. We need more like this put out today!

  • take a great sog

some great musicians and let them free to add any colour they feel and like

    the result must be astonishing

    great!!!!

  • This is a perfect song. There should be no talk about restyling when it is already perfect.

  • Branford can play a little bit.

  • Couldn't have put it any better.

  • this song needed NO restyling ... in fact we have not to compare the 2 versions, like if it should be the only thing to do listening at . This is the Sting & The Blue Turtles live version, and we like it. stop .-)

  • Some of the best players I've ever seen in my life (check out Omar Hakim's flawless performance!), but The Police version was tons better, I'm sorry

  • tears for years

  • I miss the Dream of the Blue Turtles band even more than the Police. If I'm nostalgic for anything, it would be a reunion of THIS band.

That technically isn't possible because Kenny Kirkland is no longer with us.

I really wish Omar Hakim and Darryl Jones stayed on board but something happened I guess and they left. I'm so glad that Branford and Kenny stayed, but Dolette and Janice didn't stay as long. I wonder what became of those two.

  • One of the best line-ups in music history. I tried SO hard when I was younger to sound like Omar Hakim. This band was something special though.

  • Darryl Jones now plays bass with the Rolling Stones, He was Bill Wyman's replacement, though he always stands well back onstage so you never see him.

  • How lucky is Sting to be playing with these guys !

  • It kind of looks like him

  • is that Stewart Copeland at 30 seconds????

  • Nah

  • Is that Josh Brolin at :40 ?

  • LOL!

  • Comment removed

  • Great Omar Hakim !!!!! yea !!

    and Pearl drums

    and Zildjian cymbals .. :)

  • darryl jones on bass ?!

  • Yep!

  • super STING .....super OMAR HAKIM !!!

  • My, I just sae the horrible errors on my previous comment, so sorry about that.

What I really meant is that Sting's trait is, precisely, THAT HE CAN take... and prompt JJP to review HIS Live performances...

    Sorry, sorry...

  • im more than familiar with jazz. i have a huge collection. but how can you ruin a punk rock song by a jazz version of this.

let me put it in perspective- what if a punk rock band did a punk rock cover of john coltrane's naima.

    exactly.

  • What are you talking about? One of the coolest things of jazz is that virtually anything is allowed, given that the overall performance is harmonious. Would you dare say this version is not?

Plus, one of Sting's most outstanding traits as a musician is, precisely, take a given song and stripe it off its previous structure, shake it up a bit, and give a completely different sound to it. That's what he does, man! Take a look at all her Live performances, he ALWAYS does it!

  • yes he is very brilliant at doing that. Not very many artists today do what he can do.

  • the difference is that rock musicians aren't expected to be able to play; jazz musicians are :)

  • It's hard to imagine a collection of more talented musicians...

  • thats a part of stings formula. he hires musicians who are way better than he is.

  • @Rlodance

and it's also a part of his formula that he is an awesome songwriter... what the hell are you talking about, dude?

  • A righteous band with all of the ingredients. It's a shame he didn't keep them together any longer than he did. They were just smokin'.

  • On the DVD he specifically addresses the lack of programming for black artists on pop radio, and this band is a partial response, a way of both bringing his music to the world and supporting the work of black artists. Either way, who WOULDN'T want Omar, Munch, Branford and Kenny in their band, let alone Janice and Dolette?!

  • I love it!!! lol This is when Sting was like, "you other to white boys need to sit back while I go solo for a bit" He knew they would be there one day. Time to how my songs sound wit some brothas behind me. He makes me laugh in that regard and he is a risk taker.

  • Branford is f**king fabulous with syncopated lines followed by PERFECT legato running lines. A few little melody fragments and then a swinging line running through the octaves. Branford Marsalis - a gift to the world from God himself!

  • Yea and I'm really dig wat Omar Hakim is playing behind Branfords solo....beautiful

  • I was in the us in 89-90 and used to rent this VHS with sting's reherseal for the "bring on the night" tour...

As you would have this piece of videotape, please contact me as I'm interested ;-)

    Thanks, David

  • man, that soprano solo was great!

  • Man , gotta love Omar !

  • this is the best you have good taste for music

  • What a great saxophone solo, Branford just kills it on all of Sting's stuff, like on "I Was Brought To My Senses" on the Mercury Falling album. Bad shit right there boy.
