Hey there! Yes regurgitating food is a sign of affection - personally it grosses me out and I ignored elmo when he did that so he would stop which he has. I am so glad your birdie is happy and enjoying your company!!! They just take time and heaps of patience :) Elmo is great, smarter by the day! He's now at the point where I can be in another room and call out to him and he will come flying to me, he likes to follow me like a dog everywhere. His latest phrase is "who is beautiful!" :)
Hello Starysaturn, after 5 months Hugo our princess parrot could not be happier, he is now talking and is becoming tamer every day, he is sitting on our arms and fingers and loves attention. a huge change from when i first made those previous comments on here....how is elmo?
One last thing Gabesone- when theyre babies they're very uncoordinated. When I got Elmo he used to fall off the perch all the time in the middle of the night. Make sure the cage is somewhere where you can hear it at night because if you're the one switching on the light, calmly talking and making sure your birdie is happy it will love you for it! Princess parrots live for years so the trust is REALLY important but after that... well Elmo follows me around like a dog everywhere and comments! :D
I keep both mine in the lounge room. When I first got elmo he wasnt hand reared so he was terrified of people. I sat next to the cage and ate and chatted... watched tv... basically did everything next to his cage for about six months. Birds are hard work but theyre more then worth it. Once I had his trust- which probably started around the 3-4 week mark he started talking and wanting to interact. Theyre social creatures and like to be in a flock so dont hide yours away! :)
Hi gabesone, I love the blue princess parrots they're very pretty! Is he young? If you are sure the cage is big enough- and by big enough I mean princess parrots need a parrot sized cage then it is probably his age. When I first got elmo I kept him in a smaller cage then upgraded as he got bigger. You need to remember he is in a new place with scary new people and things its not familar with. Dont keep it in a seperate room, I firmly believe you need to have them in the room you're always in.
We are the proud ownders of a blue princess parrot, what seems quite uneasy and a little stressed, we have kept him in a quiet room to get used to his surroundings, but atill seems unsure and is finsing it hard to navagate his way around the cage, the cage is pleanty big enough, but he still seems uncomfortable, he has been eating but has not made a sound. any tips on making him feel a little more at ease, and does this behaviour stop when he is gotten used to his new home?
We just got one a few days ago, he still seems uneasy and a little bit stressed, any tips on making him feel a little more settled and at ease. We have him in a gig enough cage...but he seems to be having trouble navagating his way around the cage.
haha they're worse then cats in that they wont ever do something they dont want to. Some birds are cuddly and affectionate- the cockateil I have is. Elmo the princess parrot hates being touched but loves kisses- and will snuggle right into your neck to be close to you. You have to earn their trust and keep it- when theyre pissed at you they show it too!
@starysaturn I know EXACTLY what you mean. Kiki is the same. Hates hands, but LOVES kisses and to 'floss' my teeth! But she isn't talking yet... unsure if it'll happen. How long did it take for Elmo to start talking?
