Twelve weeks long when I went to Cape May. Yankee 22. BMC Bobby Chambers was my CC. Know your general orders. Learn to say, "No excuse, sir." Your company commander does not want to hear excuses. By the way, I got 100 on my ASVAB. Became Damage Controllman First Class. Semper Paratus.

@mymaile94 My brother was a C student and he is in the Coast Guard you just have to pass the asvab and you will be fine I think a 40 is to get in the USCG.

Do not underestimate the united states coast guard. I am not taking any credit away from any of the other branches, for i am patriotic and have family in every branch, but this is by far the hardest and most selective branch to get into. If you are looking to enlist, make sure you have at least a 70 on your asvab. And most of all, do your research! I ship out in July and im pumped. Semper Paratus!

@WhiteLightningCoPlt advice would be to know your eleven general orders, coastguards men ethos, some military bearing and knowledge and uscg history. For the most part in basic you will be learning marching and how to be a coastie. Get use to yelling, it'll mentally sharpen you.

@ronniebass21 Do your research before you knock branches of the military, especially the united states coast guard. Do me a favor and research the following: USCG Port Security Units, USCG MSST, USCG MSRT, PATFORSWA, and USCG Boarding Teams. Look those up and then continue to run your mouth.

Do not listen to anyone but yourself. Do the research, ask the questions in person to each recruiter. AND ASK a Coastie what we do. We defend our Nation every day. In my family tree we have Marines, Army, Airforce and Coast Guard. I have been in for 26 years and proud of the job we do. Every branch has it's pro's and cons. BUT be an adult and find out for yourself.

@PawPrint33 you do know that the Navy is more successful at landing their jets on moving carriers than the air force is at just landing on a normal runway. Not to mention the majority of the aircrafts in bagram, afghanistan was mostly army. you need to do better research. if you wanna be a pilot that bad, i suggest you go in enlisted first to learn respect and a work ethic. then get your commission and try to pass flight school down at NAS Pcola.

@PawPrint33 Air Force is much easier when it comes to boot camp, but people quit the air force and join the coast guard all the time, I have never heard of anyone quitting the Coast Guard and joining the Air Force, so thats gotta say something.

@PawPrint33 It depends on what you want to do. In the CG, you may have to wait up to 2 years just to go to an A-School, especially aviation. But maybe in the AF you can go to Tech School immediately. It really depends on what you want to do as a career after military life, assuming you are not doing 20+ years. Choose the one that will prepare you for your future. Who cares about which branch is better. If you are going to be petty about that, then military life is not for you.

@sparklerbombg yes you will still have to go to school in va. doesnt matter if you're already an electrician or not, you still have to go. when you graduate bootcamp you would either be a sn(sands and paints boats everyday) or a fireman(engineering).
