I ALWAYS listen for the harp in this movement. And never realized what I was hearing, never having seen a score, or heard the piece live. This piece is amazing, written 3 years after the death of Beethoven. Go for it, ladies!
I was trying to determine if the players were students of the Salzedo method or of the Grandjany method. I studied the harp years ago, and there was intense rivalry between the two schools of harp playing, which was a shame because good harpists resulted from both schools.
It looks like they're resting their right arms on the soundboard, so I would say traditional French technique. They sound fantastic either way. The rivalry is kind of dying out, especially among harpists of my generation. I study Salzedo technique myself, and it has its benefits.
@flootloops : actually seeing the fingering the harpists are using it looks like Mrs Chalifoux markings. I played this with Salzedo markings and the 2nd harpists is using the markings I have from Mrs Chalifoux.
Not all Salzedo student play with Military elbows, Not even Salzedo.
@amiharp: I was referring to wrists on the soundboard and the hand position and shape. I don't play with 'military' elbows either. I wouldn't know based on the fingerings, but fingerings and overall technique aren't the same thing. Point is, they are playing a very difficult piece very well, regardless of what method they use. I was just responding to someone else's post based on what I observed.
