When I first saw him singing and I'm telling you I'm not going, I was mainly just amazed by his vocal range, and how he could sing that high, but after a while the way he sings and uses his voice gets kinda annoying, im not saying hes a bad singer, but i think he could use his vocal abilities in a better way than constantly just trying to show off that he can sing really high.

He should have gone much further on idol, although he tends to over perform through his gestures. He should just let his singing talent take hold of the performance rather than his hands. Great range and vocal control, i can see why many compare him to adam.

Whats up with this over perforning crap. Performing is what it is about! The boy is awesome! Someone tell the past artists not to over perform! AKA Freddie Mercury, janis JOplin, Aretha, thats the problem today people cant singm they cant perform so they must have their voices compensated with Protunes, Autotune, whatever to help them sing, unlike Von and a few others today are a breath of fresh air! Peroformers!

When someone states a person is over-performing, they feel that the authenticity of the song's lyrics and meaning are lost. Adam (on idol, not at the AMAs) has the ability to capture the true essence of songs and emote them accordingly. This performance is quite good, although some of the actions and movements appear too premeditated and sometimes out of place. This implies that there are slight inhibitions and therefore he is not completely immersed in the song.

He has a range like Adam does, it just seems to me that he's less as sure as Adam is about what he wants to do with his career.

What kind of music he wants to make.

I see Adam as the rocker he is,

but when Von stepped in I saw him trying to demonstrate his ability to go instantly from a low register to a high register, and I see him as a more Jazzy singer.

Just my opinion, he can do much better than he does. He holds back too I think.

I picked Von Smith early on to win american idol, when he was eliminated I was very sure that idol was a fixed contest, adam lambert was the next best talent but I feel Adam Lambert will go on to do much better in his career, hope Von

Problem is, while Von is a great singer, nerves got to him on the stage. Adam is a better performer - he's more confident from what I've seen (without being abrasive or cocky - he still tears up when he's praised and thanks the judges profusely). If Von hadn't let the nerves get to him, I'm sure he would've made it further... but he didn't prove himself enough while he was on AI.
