  • The fourth tuba should be playing pedal D's instead of low D's.

  • Well, at least there is something good in Hannover! That guy on the bottom should get an award or something for cranking out those low notes. Especially pedal D.

  • I deeply wish I could afford to continue to play the tuba. I would love to be able to play pieces like this

  • That was excellent!! Great job!!

  • Is it possible for me to get a copy of this arrangement?? This is amazing!

  • one of them had a very spitty sound :/

  • You have a wonderful tone, accuracy and a very powerful ensemble sound, I am thoroughly impressed.

  • いいねー。聞いてるだけで血が騒ぐ。

  • around 4:00 could be better if the bass part was higher in volume. its a very nice pedal line

  • the chord at 2:03 is horrible... but everything is awesome

  • Are these F Tubas?

  • @farmerjamesfergus theres one which seems smaller and might be in Eb. i dont think there are any F tubas... but all others looks to me just like a common Bb symphonic tuba

  • @ericoschmitt It doesn't appear as though any of these are of different pitches than the others, unless there are both C's and Bb's, which is somewhat doubtful

  • I get goosebumps when I hear the chords in this piece. I love low brass.

  • 6 people cant play tuba!

  • Wonderful. So great that youtube allows us to see and these fantastic musicians. So sad that the sound is so poor. I can only imagine how great this would sound live with all those maginificent overtones bouncing around and off each other.

  • There is nothing like the power a skilled tuba player can achieve

  • la ostia

  • EXCELLENT!!!!!!! Tuba players 4 presidents!!

  • The chord at 7:08 0_0 The bottom tubist sounded so full.

  • my speakers didn't like it, but i certainly did, as a tuba player myself i understand how hard it must of been to organise that and pull it off so spectacularly, so well done!!!

  • Holy Shit batman!!!!!

  • Big as Bollocks!!!!

  • sehr schön burschn! Es fällt einem fast schwer, ernst dabei zu bleiben, einfach cool!

  • the low notes here are called pedal tones and are played with the fourth pedal key on the tuba.

  • Actually they're called pedal tones because they relate to the pedals of an organ. Using 4th valve has nothing to do with it

  • wooooooow Excelente!!

  • I like how the guy on the right is using the tuba to cut off everyone

  • Excellently executed, groups like this raise the image and value of musical repertoire for Tuba.

  • As a decent quality tuba player myself, this just proves that tubas can sound quite good playing Baroque organ classics. The only problem I have is the overtones tend to clash, especially when compressed to YouTube standards, but that can't be helped. Great job nonetheless.

  • couldnt agree more, its a great shame the overtones clash in such arrangements for tuba, especially when compressed, my drum kits' china symbal loses all its quality to youtube compression, but all the same this is very well played

  • i just died and went to tuba heaven!

  • intonation is off slightly ever so rarely. *****/*****. Truly exeplary.

  • A little more like Euphoniums, but either way.

  • Haha, well yea u got a point. The're both conical.. So yea. ^^

  • What do you mean, they're both conical?

  • Both tenor, maybe, but only Euphonium is conical. Trombone is cylindrical.

  • maybe a little control would help inthe low register

  • Just in their defense, there are some REALLY frickin' low notes being played in this video..... lower than I've ever seen played in person.

  • @leoclay1 Pedal tones.

  • Air... That's a whole hell of a lot of air. Nice.

  • NICE!! hahah.. how i wish i could play like them..

  • Two words... Holy Shit

  • Holy Shit is right!!

  • amazing guys!

  • Damn... those note are so low my ears cant even decipher some of them even though I play bass trombone the tuba's fellow friend.

  • Im impressed, im a Tuba player myself, and this is great-shame about the audio quality, but live this would be fantastic.

Keep it up guys, great stuff!

  • P.S.: Nice trilling Ruben.

  • okay people commenting on the bass's extreme low register, lets keep in mind: you're judging the sound quality of a video recording compressed for the internet.

if you ever heard Josevi play live, you'd know he's one of the most technically proficient tubists around & his low register is nothing short of jaw-droppingly impressive. And he does this all on a Melton "Fafner" B-flat tuba, and instrument which has never been played with as clear an articulation as Josevi is doing.

    My colleagues rock

  • im hoping to do this iin my tuba quartet soon.

  • i love this

  • shut up and appreciate that 4 tuba players played an ORGAN solo

  • You probably don't even play tuba Tutmun, post you 'amazing lover register video' if you want to talk about other programs.

  • post a video of you showing these players how to controlled your low register is

  • 3:00 in is pretty much is the beastliest thing i've ever heard

  • ¿Puede dar me usted la música para esto, ha estado jugando tuba por mucho tiempo y yo tengo una recitación para jugar y pienso que esto sería perfecto. puede usted me hace el favor inmenso?

  • 2:16 is beast mode

  • That was grand. I'm a tuba player myself, and to me it sounds like the lowest tuba guy needs to work on his tone control, but besides that, they good.

  • Really Cool! I love hearing great music like this transposed for intsruments you wouldn't normally hear them for.

  • this is really great.

  • Jake, well done!

you might remember me, tubaplayer from Holland, I played with he dutch quintet pieces by Zappa? We played in the last German Brass Academy in 2006... best grz Niels!

  • that is awsome

  • sloppy.

  • what kinds of tubas are u guys using?

  • Enhorabuena chicos!!. Mis felicitaciones por el buen trabajo... En especial a ti Rubén. Nos conocimos en Markneukirchen.. recuerdas?? como acabó tu problema con Air Berlin?? Un saludo.

  • and people say the tuba is easy

    WoW that was AMAZING!

my gosh i thought i was good before hearing this but damn!

even though it is my first year playing tuba lol

  • Wonderful

  • holy shit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! at 6:42

  • This is really great!

    Thanks.

  • you can play pedals in tune on a 3 valved sousaphone. Eb is open the rest is mastery

  • LOL! I agree with tubaman1019. it sounds like your farting into a microphone. Everything else sounds great though.

  • BIG RESPECT :D

  • Muy bueno me gusta mucho el arreglo como podemos contactar José , suena muy bien el cuarteto saludos desde aca Lima Perú

  • it is possible to play pedals in tune and with good sound

  • Just don't try it on a 3 valve (or sousaphone). 8)

  • People, pedal tones aren't just 'low notes' and it's very hard to play them without getting a, somewhat, blatty sound. I'm not saying it's impossible, but it's hard in it's own right.

  • Just the sheer amount of air required to play them shows really good support from the bottom tubist.

  • way to go guy's for showing that tuba's can be beautiful too I'm a sax player of 12 years and i can appreciate this work good job and keep it up

  • I about died laughing at the mere attempt of this by tubists, but they pulled it off with much respect!

  • dudes!!! that bottom Tubist just played his ass off those damn pedals!! I'm a player of the pedals, and it really doesn't matter to me if they're in tune, if there's a sound it's good:) but this is great!!! wish we had some players that could do this.

  • Pedal tones don't even sound good when they're exactly on tune...

hence why people tune piano's very high and very low notes off tune a bit

  • yo u guys are awsome. Im a tuba player myself and there are only three others in the city of philadelphia, and i wish we could get 2gether and do something like this.

  • what the hell are you talking about? four total tuba players in philly?

    that just is not true.

there's 6 at my university alone. not to take into account all the other schools and high schools in the city. or all the pro and amateur players.

  • i was talking about the Philadelphia school district. wat university do u attend anyways?

  • temple, and i'm sure there's more than four in the School District.

  • cool. temple has a great music program i hear but yes only four in the philadelphia school district. Im in all city and year trust me. who do u study with and do u give lessons?

  • My teacher is Grammy-winning Jay Krush, tubist with the Chestnut Brass and the Pennsylvania Ballet.

I don't give too many lessons but I certainly will if you're interested.

  • This is awesome...great job guys!

  • tuning tuning tuning

  • tuning is key to any note on tuba XP especially B natural and Gb... >=( evil notes while marching...

  • guy on the left you're a beast at those low notes. I just got out a pedal A. Jesus watch out your gonna hit the brown note.

  • pedal F is that brown note... and it hurts if you dont warm up properly cause you wont hit it... VERY hard to tune...

  • pedal f isn't that hard to tune other wise it wouldn't be so common in music. plus some of them are playin F tubas so thats a very easy note to hit and tune.

  • I didnt mean f thats 4 lines below, i meant f thats like 7 spaces below...

  • double pedal f he means and it is so broad i love it i just want to shit jk

  • This sounds exactly like the Canadian Brass Version. But hey man, four tubas playing this is freaking sweet. I just have one request there are a couple spots where it gets a little to heavy for the style that is supposed to be there. Get some recordings and listen a little. Its just a couple spots, but hey you guys are already much better than me so keep on going.

  • *JAW DROPPING* I so would like a copy of this score...

  • I would as well any way to make that happen

  • DUDE this makes me smile im a tuba player and i love seeing others play such beautiful manly instrument.

  • that tuba player playing the low stuff is a freaking monster

  • It is so beautiful that you've simply made me cry. Congratulations. Awesome version.

  • This is really amazing!

it DEFINETLY sounds better than the organ and i would really love to play this with my friends who also play tuba, could you tell me where you got the music from?

    cheers! XD

  • at the info thingy it says that it's an arrangement by one of the guys playing there.

Otherwise, this music was composed by J.S.Bach :D

  • I honestly like this more than most organ renditions that I have heard. Quite brilliant. Man I miss playing.

  • nice coolest quartet i've ever herd one of my faveret vershens of this song

  • Very impressive work people. Loving it.

Would be nice to hear a high-quality recording tho.

  • Wish I could have heard this live. I am sure youtube does not do it justice.

  • Freaking awesome.

  • thats amazing

  • First off, why are you wasting your time calling people "tuba nerds". If it's really that uncool or whatever to comment why did you? Secondly I made a statement based on what I know so far, I don't need all you pretentious critics jumping on it the minute you see something wrong. You want to comment or criticize, then say something constructive like Madisasdf said.

  • There are too many tuba nerds commenting on this

  • so im a tuba nerd i edmet it, but im a jock too!!!!!!

  • too many tuba nerds?...your name is "groin jockey"...

HOORAY FOR BEING A TUBA NERD!

  • I wish the video had better sounds quality, it was kind of fuzy, but it was amazing.

  • The "blatting" sound I was referring to is more like the harshness in the lower notes. The higher are very clear (I think) because of this harshness with the lower notes. I may be wrong, I've only been playing tuba for 3 years and I've been trying to get deeper into it the past 2 years.

  • but you know it's not really possible to play really loud in really low register without breaking the sound (if that is what you meant).

  • Muy bien tocado y muy buena afinación¡¡¡

  • nice how u playyyyyyy

  • This performance is amazing. They didn't emulate the classical version, but they made it their own. Impressive.

  • The quartet is pretty good. I enjoyed it a great deal. However they seem to have a problem with "blatting" the low notes, especially on the bass tubas. I'm not better by any stretch of the imagination but it's something I've noticed is common for a lot of tuba players.

  • what exactly do you mean by "blatting" the low notes?

  • I don't hear any of that. That "gritty" sound in the low register is not a bad thing.

If it means another, many professional tubist have that kind of sound.

  • ehehe you don't want to get madis started on low register sound quality....

  • You should find a recording of Gerard Hoffnung and friends playing the Chopin Mazurka! I noticed the flatulent effect here more on the contrabass, and that's what you get when stretching the limits both of the instrument and the range of human hearing. As a former bass trombone player, I know the lowest pedal tones are difficult to articulate accurately , and these guys make it sound easy!

  • realmente buenos =O!!!!, yo toco tuba tambien y me dejaron muy impresionado, exelentes tubistas :D!!!espero llegar a algun dia a ese nivel

  • anywhere for sheet music?

  • Hey, if you can send me the sheet music for this.Message me for my email address.

(And yes, I know my name says DRUMMMER396, I'm a drummer and a tuba player.Just clearing that up :D)

  • That was ridiculously awesome. I love it. I just posted it on my brass group on facebook. I hope all my tuba friends watch it.

  • Buenisimo felicitaciones muchachos!!!

  • Its really hard to beat that.

  • you guys are my heros. fat tuba solos ftw! sigh... no i need to go practice :P

  • sounds great! keep it up. post another video soon! 5 stars.
