The Policing agency and Fire agency were joined together under the Sheriff Department about 8 to 10 years ago. It allowed for an organized department to manage the Various Volunteer Fire Departments in Broward County. The County Fathers did this to bring the entire emergency services together under one manager in Broward County. Thus the Sheriff got the responsibility. Many years ago in Memphis Tennessee, the Fire and Police were under one man.Claude A. Armour. It works well.

Fire Rescue falls under the management of the Broward Sheriff's Department. They are a division basically. They are NOT public safety officers.

they are regualr ff/emts, they are run by the DOT just like every department in country is. they are just a joint branch with the broward sheriffs department. They are not cops

Sheriff is the sheriff and the Fire Chief is the Fire Chief. It was a smart move by the union to need to negotiate with one elected official vs 9 county commissioners.

we only respond typically with one driver and thats usually me. but by god i make sure im heard. We have the Q siren switch mounted on a footpedal on floor of the officers seat and right there where the horn should be on the steering wheel

you dont need somebdy else to operate a q. on a pierce quantum u can switch from airhorn to q by a switch of a button. all u gotta do is just press the middle of the steering wheel just like u were gonna press the airhorn. and i know all this cause i worked on a pierce quantum

@atlreddog In Broward County our sheriff dept also has a fire-rescue division. They have contracts with smaller municipalities to provide these services. They're what we call "county rescue" because they're in different cities around the county.
