China's main goal is to keep stability. They have a huge army to deter possible foreign invaders (Understandable that they don't want history repeated). And how can China be a threat? They won't. They're smart enough to know that any war with a country with a nuclear arsenal will have no winners. Also, NATO sides with the U.S. Why all this paranoia?

The first two minutes was terrible. The whole speech was terrible. He forgets that intentions change when money and nationalism gets in the way. Their spending in military and defense should alone spell out their intentions. You don't live in China anymore. You don't know their government. And history does not show the state in which China is now. China is a threat.

$200 something billion doesn't sound like much when you compare that to USA's total debt of over $8 trillion. China holds a few hundred billion USD of US treasury bonds, but Japan holds even more of US debt. Even when u combine Japan and Chinese holdings, its just over $1 trillion, compare that to total US debt.

Get real! China can't harm NATO. The United States military alone is FAR stronger than China's, let alone NATO's. They have a large standing army, that is true, but they don't have anywhere near the technology that the US does let alone NATO. Sorry, but the USA is still the world's superpower (militarily).

I belived the same untill recently. Then I got an education and learnt how advanced they have become. The notion that the US is more advanced is based only on the now. If the graphs of increaseing technology were compared, China is on a steeper curve. In time they will overtake.

You re overestimating China, looking at naval fleet alone no nation on earth can take on NATO. Looking at combined nuclear weapons no Nation on Earth comes near. Looking at the military, china has the biggest army on earth, but it is useless if it can't transport it overseas: so defensive, yes it is a huge advantage but offensive: NO.

Lest we forget, China is a horrible country. But is China a threat to the U.S.A? Well if it is operated by idiots then it will be trouble to us because if they hurt America, they'll hurt themselves. Japan has greater strength over the U.S.A and the world economy. They could cause serious pain the world has never seen before, with a simple act of raising their base rate to 10%.

He makes a good point about China being less of a threat during booms, but their indulgent investment in military spending indicates that they're preparing themselves for when they tap out their resources, specifically, affordable oil.
