  • @Gina10179202 how long have you been skating for??

  • Do you have any tips on doing a layback spin?

  • I really wish more people spin the opposite way, as I do. My coaches never liked teaching me things because they had to reverse everything.

  • HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

"Do you want to do that?"

  • This is a little unrelated :/ Do you have any tips for going on my toe pick too much during the camel spin & sit spin? I tip forward too much during the camel spin, and i find it really hard to hold the spiral. And for the sit spin, I can never be on my rocker. THANKS!!

  • You're so good Gina. I wish u were my coach.

  • @Gina10179202 i have one question. i'm 14 and since ever i wanted to skate. i got skates this january. now i want to go to club. i can do single toe loop and camel spin, and some other things, because i learn fast. but still, am i too old to start skating in club? plz, answer

  • You are so sweet and clear, I can understand even if english is not my native language. Your tips are precious and I learned lot of my skating skills from you. So, thank you!

I really can't understand how people can leave bad comments or so, as everybody should skate at great level, as everybody started when 4 years old. I'm an italian ex roller skater trying on ice for the first year in her life (I'm 31) and you are the best youtube teacher ever. I do love you!!!

  • hehe, thanks for the advice uhm but theres one question what do you mean about stepping in , in more of a curve >.< that confuzzled me a little bit :p

oh n sorry bout the video haha. i would of made it more friendlier but my frnds made me all nervous and just stared at me a lot. hehe :P

  • oh okay haha thanks so much! :p sorry, im just new to this thats all :)

    - kat :)

  • @xxessencexx61 When you're typing a comment on the video, to the right of the comment box there is an option that says 'Attach a video'. Click that and follow the instructions. :)

  • hi gina, i just want to ask where can i send you this video to an email? or what?

i would really like to know so i can send you a video, i need a lot of help. :P please reply back to this comment

    - kat :)

  • @xxessencexx61 Kat, I'd love to watch your video. If it is uploaded on youtube you can add it as a video response to this video, but if it is not on youtube you can upload it to Sendspace and give me the link in a message. :)

  • Your freeaking hilarious gina.

If you get too much toe then you fall on your face.. basically AHHAHAHA ..

Thanks for these vids they've helped me heaps :D

  • @candybruh Haha, thank you! I tend to just say whatever comes to mind when I'm making a video, so I say some random stuff sometimes!

  • Gina, I Have a question.. I am from Bangkok, Thailand. The skating rink here is very tiny; therefore it is quite difficult for us to practice on ice.. but our coach said before we do our spins and other more difficult movements, we need to practice the steps on plain floor. Can you suggest ? what time of shoes should we wear when we are practing skating movements at home ? Thanx.

  • I do this the opposite to my spiral xxx it sucks. Great video. Lol ( do u want to do that?????) xx

  • @ 6:51 Ha ha. No I don't. Thank you so much for this. You are a darling....

  • i really have a problem with my camel spin, it just isnt working, no matter how much strength i build in my legs (which i have been practicing off ice) and on ice i cannot seem to keep spinning. my inside edge goes too deep. i have listened to your tips in the video but i cant seem to make my spin work. can you give me any more that might help? thanks.

  • HI Gina,

Thanks for the informative video. My coach gave me a tip which really helps with camel spins...remember to keep the SHOULDERS parallel to the ice when going up into the spin. Sometimes my arm can be parallel, but my shoulder isn't. Once the shoulder is corrected, the camel imporves dramatically.

ps. polite request...could you remove the watermark of your username that is over the video? It's a bit distracting, and covers your pretty face! :)

  • Your legs are so long! Lucky!

  • hey gina i can finally do the spin and this video helped a lot!! thx for answering my question!! my leg doent bend anymore!! thx a lot!! =)

  • Hi Gina,

You have a very good camel spin...and unfortunately, I do not:) I am experimenting with my arm positions right now. I have three choices:

    1. Put both arms out to the side so that it makes a horizontal line

    2. Put my right hand on my right leg and my left hand on my left knee( I have been doing this position, but it looks awkward, because I twist my right shoulder over too much..I am not exactly facing sideways but not completely with square shouulders either)

    3. Both armsback like u

  • hey gina,i have a question. do u have to keep the leg ur spinning on straight or can u bend it a little bit? because when i do it, i bend it and for some reason im kinda close to the ice. well thanks for the tips! they really helped!!!!thank u!:D ;D

  • @99skatingstar It is better to keep your spinning leg straight. :)

  • hey:)

    your videos are SOOO helpful

i saw you went to dean close in one of your videos

i live like really near cheltenham and just wondered where you trained cos i have to go really far every sunday to go skating:/

thanks again your videos are so helpful:)

    xx

  • Hi.. im having trouble with my camel...

i always seem to spin on an inside edge so i always

fall out of it. :( what do you think i should do?

i practiced it a few times off ice but it didnt help.

Also are you taking any requests?

  • You have a very good camel...I'm quite jealous. Great video! ^__^

  • Ooo it's all getting a bit tense here! xD

Welldone Gina! (: Your an AMAZING skater and you inspire me so much (:

I'm a skater myself but can't say I'm nowhere near as good as you!

We have to get to know each other some time as we're similar ages and I too live in England (: x

  • i first learned a two foot spin - one foot spin- scratch spin- layback spin- sit spin- camel spin... and thats what im on so far...

  • orite thankss

  • Gina what is the first spin u learn normally?

  • The first spin you usually learn is just a regular old one-footed spin, and then (usually) a sit spin. At least that's how I was taught.

  • @cutenadiaxoxo usually a one-foot spin/scratch spin.

  • Hi, i have a couple of requests.

I would like to learn how to do a spin where you start in sit and pull your leg up into a leg mount infront of you. And also A biellmann spin. I have tried a couple of times but i cant get the strength to pull my leg up. My arm gets thrown to far back. xx

  • Sorry, requests are closed.

  • Hi there, genius. I didn't 'just' say to send any requests. Yes, I said that you could send requests in the video but if you put your limited brain cells into action and read WHEN I posted this video, you would find that it was in Dec 2008. So I did not JUST say it, I said it over a year ago.

And just for the record, you have no right to call anyone dumb when you can't actually SPELL 'dumb', not to mention 'just', or 'you'. Do me a favor and educate yourself before making any more comments.

  • @Gina10179202 don't worry about the haters.. your videos are great... keep them coming =)

  • please do a video about flying spin or the death drop with off-ice exercises. Thanks

  • Sorry, video requests are closed.

  • wat she is talkin about at about 5:50 to 6:10 is my prob

  • Then can you just give me a few quick tips or exercises I can do to increase my power and speed? Thanks...

  • Better stroking produces more power and speed, so make sure that you're stroking properly, using your edges, etc. Also, more muscle will help.

  • Could you please do a video on how to increase your power and speed? Thanks

  • Sorry, requests are closed.

  • ok, i am REALLY confused. i was watching a video of a flying camel spin, and they were spinning to the left on their RIGHT leg!!!! i thought that was impossible!!! someone please explain why they were doing this- coz its different to the camel spin!

  • On a flying camel spin, you jump onto the right leg so that you're doing a BACK camel spin.

  • i spin to the right. is that bad?

  • no, you're probably a clockwise (left handed) skater, your jumps are probably all opposite of gina's too. nothing bad about it!

Here's some famous skaters who skate the same way as you:

    Johnny Weir

    Sarah Hughes

    Rudy Galindo

    Todd Eldrddge

    Alissa Czisny

    Denise Biellmann

    :)

  • Gina could you please do tips on a sit spin? i would thankful. im having issues with getting low enough and rocking on to my toepick.could you please make a video if you have the time?

  • I'm afraid my sit spin really isn't good enough to make a help video from (I really struggle on sit spins.) Sorry!

  • thank you SO much! this has helped me a lot because I have a competition coming up and I'm kind of a beginner so I'm not too great at my spins haha

  • You're welcome! I'm glad it helped.

  • Hey Gina,

If you could, can you please do a video on a layback spin?

    Thankx

  • Layback spin is already on the list.

  • ur so cool wanna be friends?

  • Sure!

  • hey gina-do u compete?

  • I'm planning to test some more before I compete, so I can compete at a level closer to my standard. :)

  • When ur in ur camel position do i spin inbeetween my toe and the middle of my blade or ?

  • Yep, that's correct.

  • haha i though you could do triple loop and lutz ahha if so then why are you asking how to do a camel spin! LIER!HAHA

  • triple jumps arent necessary to learn a camel spin--most of the skaters at the rink im at don't do triple jumps but have still learned camel spins-the level jumps dont determine the types of spins you can do

  • thats a lie, ive never witnessed someone who can do triple jumps asking which part of the blade you need to spin on for a camel spin because to get triple jumps it would take years of coaching adn the coach would also teahc them spins adn the question he asked was a basic question so you are wrong

  • Guys, does it really matter? If No1Jc wants to lie, then let him lie. Leave him to it.

  • fairpoint!hes being really abusive on my videos too:s

    btw you doin oxford open?

  • Just ignore him. He's obviously got nothing better to do with his time. I am...probably not doing Oxford. I'm testing some more before I compete. :)

  • woah we are habving two convos on two different videos ahha!:p

    lets stick to this video:)

yeah i have hes only 10 but its still wuite annoying!

oh you should do it especially if you havent tested youde do well at beginers

  • Yeah, my coach and I decided against competing in beginners because my 'unofficial level' is so much better than that, so I would look out of place. I think I'm gonna get to NISA 3 before I compete.

  • Hey Gina!!

This video is a little helpful to me thanks!

Umm can yu make a video on combination jumps??

(mostly axel double sal but yea)

  • um, "where I stop" means, I slide on the blade, instead of the slight inside edge and well, like I wanted to stop.

  • Hi there. That was really a nice explanation. Some of it was the same that my coach told me. The thing is, even tough I know what to do, I don't manage more than one revelution. Unfortuenately I don't have anyone to tape me, so you could have a look at me dropping off... I always do it more slowly, otherwise I fall off before reaching the spinning position. But I always have a moment, where I stop and that is basically when I lift up my free leg. Can you do spins in the other direction as well?

  • thanks alot

your tips really helped my spins =]

  • I'm glad I helped! Let me know if you need any help on anything.

  • Can you make one helping about flying camels? Thanks:)

  • Sure, I'll add that to the list. :)

  • can you look at my camels please - i have not had a lesson on them yet and my vids are the firts times i have tried them so anything will be usefull! lol

    thanks !

  • Sure--I'll watch the video and leave a comment there.

  • wow...

nice video.... you have a very nice camel spin too...

you're so cute!!!! you have a very sweet voice too!!!!

    God bless!!!!

  • Thank you. :)

  • thank you you help alot i have been skating sence i was 2 but i am 11 now!

  • Thanks! Keep up the skating.

  • hey! you are doing a great job but you might want to show the foot positions up close off ice. that would help me alot and i rely alot on these vids cuz they help

  • WTF!!! not really the kind of thing you ask someone... thats just sick... seriously are you some kind of pervert?

  • yea he is...

  • Yeah, I deleted that comment. Thanks, guys.

  • please become a coach :) you are a good teacher

  • Thank you very much. I'd love to coach, but my mum has told me that she would disapprove strongly if I ended up with a career in anything to do with skating. I might do it in my late teens to earn some money, though!

  • My Mum said excatly the same to me!!

I've not been skating long but i'm progressing quite fast and i love it!

  • Coaching doesn't have to be your sole career; coaches often have a full or part-time day job too.

From your clip it is not just a left forward outside edge entry, you briefly rise up on the toepick.

  • why she doesn't want you to end up working with something related to skating?... : (

  • She's not exactly the biggest skating fan. :P

  • b-but this is something you like and you skate like an ice queen!

Besides you are free to choose whatever you want, sorry if i offended you...Or your mum but seriously you have more chances to win the gold medal in the olympics than sasha cohen!

  • haha, well, I don't think I really have the chance to win the Olympics at all. I mean, I started when I was 12, I only recently got lessons, and I still only get 1 lesson a week. All the odds are kind of against me.

  • gina just be positive, everything is possible, u have a lot of talent and courage. There's a LOT of people supporting you including me of course :)

  • Do you know what my sister can use to spin on to practice at home?

  • thank u soo much 4 adding this , i have always had troubles with the camel spin, this helped me ALOT! =D

  • I'm glad it helped. Good luck. :)

  • i've always stuggled with my camels lolguys just aren't naturally flexible tho... i'll try out a lot of this when i have my lesson 2moro massive thanks :)

  • Thanks for commenting! Good luck!

  • thanx :) just a note u have put down arm movments twice on your requested list

  • Oh, thank you for letting me know. I'll change that now. :)

  • first viewer and commenter, super useful!

  • I'm glad you found it useful. Thanks for watching!

  • thats ok, I don't actually ice skate, its more artistic skating with the same white leather figure boot but on four wheels :D, but the wheels do have edges, and these help AMAZINGLY :d
