  • this concert wouldof been so awsome to see in person she is a really dynamic singer and so is jackson brown but i lke john prine better

  • this is what's great about the USA- we have freedom. freedom to choose who we vote for and elect, freedom to state our political, social, and other beliefs freely and free to disagree with eachother and the government. People who are hating on Edwards or any candidate or govt. official or are hating on musicians like Jackson and Bobbie- just know that your right to publicly complain came about because of people who stood up for themselves and their future country. speaking out created the USA

  • Cool pants, Jackson !

  • and John Edwards proved to be just another sleaze ball--too bad, but these guys should have read the fine print first and read something else besides the campaign crap

  • Politics are politics. Everyone has one. Not the point of the song. John Prine (he wrote it) survived a cancer. Health care or lack thereof was not the point, either. It is a freaking beautiful piece of music. Art is in the mind of the beholder.

  • How's that Edward thing working today??? just like the book says SHUT UP AND SING this message flew down from NH

  • Anybody who can leave a nasty comment here while listening to this song has to have some emotional issues

  • Well, I don't know about You but I'm sure glad John Edwards, the lying, cheating bastard failed to get elected. How many interns do you think he might have impregnated only to deny them as well. Yes, Elizabeth was a class act "angel", but if anything John was her demon! I guess you can fool some of the people some of the time but sooner or later your true self will be revealed. Yes, we all have demons in our closets, but we're not all trying to be the President!

  • I'm with Tom Petty....when asked what he thought about some political issue he said "why would anyone care what I think, I'm just a singer"

Stay with your strengths, I don't wanna know what you think.

  • Edwards lip service with Rielle Hunter.

  • Hah! She should just shut up and sing!

  • Woo hoo alright NH. Love Bonnie!

  • This music just puts me in a place that feels so organic like a dream state.

  • @Miasmummy2497

Ms. Raitt makes you feel 'organic?'

  • I would love to understand what she says in the beginning and after a short while - would be interesting - people have a short laught and jackson joins in then. Will listen to it a few more times - will see whether i find out completely!

  • @franktx1 LOL! Im with you. Now we got chains we can believe in!

  • @franktx1 if your a liberal and you do stuff like that - your "human".... shame we cant keep politics out of it, but it doesnt seem like there is a level playing field.....

  • I RESPECT ANYONE WHO HAS THE PIBLICS EAR FOR BEING BRAVE ENOUGH TO EXPRESS THEIR OPINIONS AND STAND BEHIND THEM. DOESN'T MATTER WHICH OPINION THEY HAVE. IF YOU ALL HAD THE FORUM, WOULDN'T YOU MAKE USE OF IT. OTHERWISE YOU'D HAVE TO SEAL YOURSELF AWAY FROM THE WORLD. rIGHT? BONNIE AND JACKSON ARE TWO OF MY HEROES, FOR THEIR MUSICAL GENIUS, AND THEIR COMMITMENT TO HELPING TO CHANGE THE WORLD.

  • To Bussinsmiths and juscurious,

you guys should exchange e-mail or something... we all have our own opinions about everything... every single person on this planet lives a different reality...

  • I wonder how Bonnie feels about John Edwards now? John Edwards was never anything but a ambulance chasing scum bag trial lawyer in my opinion. He has the unmitigated gall to talk about health care when he is the type of person who was instrumental in driving up health care costs with the frivolous lawsuits he filed and got rich off of. John Edwards is scum of the earth and it's great to see that he will be leaving politics for good. If you are from NC and voted for him, then shame on you.

  • @juscurious You are an idiot. Your stupidity is the problem with this country. Read a fact - any fact - you ignorant piece of trash before you speak. Healthcare is being driven up by your and your issue, who couldn't survive absent the munificence of such an increasingly liberal system.

  • When someone is SERIOUS about change and the way they feel, they are suddenly a radical, a lefttist, a wild peson. Well, count me in. Love you Bonnie and Jackson. Love John Prine songs. Call it radical or leftist, count me in.

  • Your comments are very childish. You haven't defined CHANGE. Change can mean different things to different people. Going from the frying pan into the fire is also CHANGE. We can both be serious about change and yet want completely different things. Bonnie is NOT a serious person. I'll bet she's not informed and has to spend too much of her time battling drug addiction to be on top of the issues. She won't debate issues because she would be exposed as a lightweight. Shut up and sing Bonnie.

  • Well duh... wouldn't or shouldn't it be assumed that if someone is talking about change in a forum or venue such as this that they are talking about positive change the way they see it? YOU are the one who is being childish here. DUH. Shut up and listen, juscurious.

  • "Dick" Cheney is a TERRIBLE singer, and should stay away from politics. So Bonnie beats him 1 to 0. When any idiot birther or teabagger can hijack a town hall meeting - scream down the opposing point of view - well, Bonnie doesn't seem so bad, even with a captive audience. Soon the SCOTUS will decide if corporations can have the same free speech as an individual. If THAThappens, we're ALL screwed, and right or wrong won't even make a difference! Just stick to the music.

  • Bonnie is a great singer but she should stay from politics. She isn't informed and really does not know what she's talking about. Freedom of Speech isn't the issue. At a concert you have a captive audience and many may not agree with you. If you are going to use your celebrity to promote a political view then you should open yourself to debate. She doesn't. This is akin to "hit and run". She's completely wrong about nuclear power and a lot of other issues. But she never debates. That wrong.

  • What rubbish! A) This performance is at a rally, not a regular concert. b) 'captive audience? What -- they lock you into the hall? If you don't agree with what she's saying, take a stroll for a few minutes ...

  • Yes you are correct this is a rally. So I will give you that. But I've been to concerts where various artists have injected political crap. I've had friends who have seen Jackson Browne and he does this to an extent at his concerts. In fact he's famous for this. But I've always thought if you want to use your artistic fame to push political views then you should be willing to put your views on the line. Many artists are in FACT hit and run artists. They are both wrong about nuclear power.

  • I've heard them say that the waste from Nuclear Power would take years and years and years to break down and if there is just one small accident, it will cause countless health issues for the environment, etc. You say they are wrong. I am open to your opinion... please corrent them. Set them straight and explain how they is wrong. I am open to your thoughts...

  • What you have heard about Nuclear Power from "them" is either flat out wrong or severely distorted. Nuclear Power is the safest, cleanest, & most cost effective means of generating electrical power. The anti nuclear power people are the ignorant and ill informed. It is they who have not taken the time to learn about NP or they want an end to industrical society. Where will the electricity come from to power their guitar amplifiers. With only 500 characters I cannot cover NP the way it requires.

  • I only asked you to answer one item... what will we do with the waste. I know a little about NP. I grew up having family members building NP Plants. If just one of them on Lake Michigan would have a leak? The entire lake would be useless for thousands of years, right? Just address the area of waste storage or what happens if one has a melt down. Thanks!

  • I'll answer this as respectfully as I can because many people have questions and are not informed. Commercial NP is in over 100 plants in the US alone. It is clean, safe and the future. Commercial NP is in m opinion safer than say a Nuclear powered ship which are covering our oceans each day. The safest way to store waste is geologic depositories deep in te ground with glass encasement. There is no danger from this and remember one uranium pellet of fuel is about 1 ton of coal not burning...

  • Way cool... someone answered without being a jerk. I think these things need to be discussed in a mature, respectful manner. There will always be two or more sides to an issue, and we get no where when all we do is belittle and disrespect those who do not share our views.

Personally? I see pros and cons on both sides of this issue.

  • It looks live Dave has answered questions about storage of NWaste. I'd add that the Spent Fuel Rods can be reprocessed and used over and over. 95% of the Energy is still contained after a fuel cycle. The French are doing this as we speak-very sucessful. This greatly reduces to volume of waste. The volume of waste IS VERY SMALL. The total volume of waste produced in NPP would fit in one high school gym. It's that small. We also have Navy Ships with NP so one small leak would NOT wreck Lake M.

  • She knows if she debated she would get her ass beat.

  • Exactly, and that's why it kills me when celebrities get involved in politics in this "hit and run" fashion. It's rare to see these folks get involved in political forums, debate or even write an article about the issues. Being able to sing and play guitar is not the background you need to address serious issues. Neither is being about to read a movie script. Celebrities just don't get it. They make fools of themselves and yet don't realize it. They don't know anymore than the average citizen.

  • I didn't realize this was at a political rally. So they really had a captive myopic audience. Like her singing and have some of her cds. But wouldn't follow her political or lifestyle choices.

  • Looks like we are in agreement with this issue of celebrity politics. It's amazing to me how entertainers can go out & spew ignorance and not get called on it. They never or rarely put their views on the line. They don't appears on TV shows where they have to defend their views. Oh they might go on a show like Larry King where he will dish up softballs for them but they won't go where they will be challenged. They are ignorant cowards for the most part. They are useful idiots as some might say.

  • amazing beyond words

    she's an amazing woman

    :)

  • Bonnie Raitt was always a leftist, almost a radical. I staffed a benefit concert in 1980 against nukes with Jackson Brown. In fact, I walked behind her up to the stage at the point when she was to take the stand. She is from LA and a Quaker background, very activist family. She is a blues, folk, rocker, less country. As such, she probably has more understanding of issues than most pop-politic Bilder Berg conspiracy theoists out there. I've heard her speak, she's intelligent, not just a ...

  • WTF...who cares?

  • to believe in the living is just a hard way to go!

  • damn skippy

  • Didn't John Edwards attend the Bilderberg Group annual meeting on how they're going to destroy the people of the earth a few years back when they selected him to run for VP with John Kerry, Skull and Bonesman? I love Bonnie Raitt and Jackson Browne, but I think they'll be badly disappointed once again now that they've got their Dem in office. Both parties are owned by the same corrupt pizzashit NWO banksters and corporatist pigs.

  • If you pick your musicians based on their politics you won't have much to choose from, trust me. It sucks but unless you don't want to listen to anything at all then you will learn to separate the two issues...

  • Yep, them Bilderbergers been scheming with them Trilats, for decades now to do us all in, but they are so damn incompetent, dying off and all, that you and people like you are still being born.

  • She is the spirit.

  • John Edwards the sleezebag who cheated on his wife?

  • There are progressive country musicians too, besides Bonnie Raitt, like Willie Nelson and the Dixie Chicks for instance.

  • All kinds of artists, have spoken out on the social issues of their day throughout history, e.g. Woodie Guthrie, Pete Seeger, Bob Dylan at one time, Bruce Springsteen. In many cases their understanding of social issues is what defined them as artists. When Pablo Picasso was in France some Nazi officers visited his shop and saw the mural "Geurnica"

depicting the massacre. They asked "did you do this?" "No." He replied. "You did." Artists are human beings and citizens. They should speak out.

  • @jokr8790 Picasso also turned in many people to the nazi's, he was a real bastard, artistic genius, but a nasty,

and mean spirited human being. ( from all that I have read)

  • @wc4dblues What's your source of information that Picasso collaborated with the nazis? I just did a quick look on the web and couldn't find anything. That's a very serious charge if true.

  • I've been a fan of Bonnie Raitt since my ex turned me on to her in 1974. She's a great singer and guitar player, but politically, she and I couldn't be any further apart.

Whenever I go to her concert, I find it better if I simply ignore her anti-nuclear, pro-socialist crapola and concentrate on the gift that this musical genius brings us all.

  • Hey Duncan, Id rather listen to Bonnie any day then to Toby Keith's ignorant right wing rants from a talentless hack.

  • Exactly my point. I doubt if either Toby Keith or Bolnnie Raitt have any deep understanding at all of economics, business, nuclear engineering, statistical analysis, or any such like; why should I look to either of them for their views on things about which they're ignorant?

That would be like me asking Barack Obama or John McCain what the best chord progression for a particular song was!

  • This wasn't a concert, it was a fundraiser for John Edwards, so a little political commentary to his supporters was appropriate.

  • I appreciate that they speak out. They could just be laying around doing nothing about the problems, just like most of the apathetic population. I for one applaud them as activists and artists.

  • The song was written by a letter carrier from the US named John Prine. A very fine fellow.

  • Yes, no one lives in a vacuum....and isn't it nice when some of the most creative talented folks on the planet are also fighting for progressive causes.

  • @Tones4me it doesn't matter .. you lost your country a long time ago...

  • SING THE DAMN SONG!

  • yeah, as a heads up, it starts at about 1:09

  • The biggest mistake that artists make...thinking that somebody cares what they THINK...wrong...it's what they SING...GEEZ...give it up...that old Hippy stuff went out long time ago...somewhere about the time "the day the music died"...sing the song son...that's all we want

  • It only quit for the sell outs. But don't feel bad - you aren't alone.

  • I wonder if Edwards tried to nail Bonnie, too.

  • slimy rat bastard

  • I'll take that as a reference to Edwards.

  • You'd be correct. No politician will top Edwards for quite a while in the sleeze department.... I hope.

  • Prine is a genius at reading people and putting their deepest feelings into concise words in the language of the common man.

  • There's a hole in daddy's arm where all the money goes. John Prine.

  • Two of the best touring artists still around singing a song from one of our best song writers still around. Just a great song and I am glad that these two got to sing it together. If you get a chance to see Prine, Browne, or Raitt, you should do so; I guarantee it will be worth the price of admission.

  • Oh, how this song has touched my heart for decades.....and its relevance is still so deep and abiding.....God bless the women and children..we sure need the blessings, and peace..blessed peace..........

  • Let us all lend our voice to a cause we believe in...world peace 2008...it's not far beyond our reach. They have already written the words, we just need to add our voices and it is done.

Peace is up to you and me...let it be.
