man some of you need to seriously chill out. the reason they want to find water on the moon is so that when they start planning a moon base they can count on water being available to harvest it for drinking water and making fuel. its also an important building block for life, where theres water, life can flourish. if we find water on planets it means there could be life of some kind.

just because theres no atmosphere doesnt mean life cant survive, however i am of course referring specifically to bacteria or some other unicellular organism. the variety of conditions bacteria on earth can survive in is amazing. some can even metabolize metal ore. one of these was metal eating bacteria was found in a smoldering slag heap of uranium ore (metallosphaera sedula, and M. prunae) so it could happen.
