I suggest you learn about HIV from more than the mainstream or doctors or drug companies -- they prefer people be scared and dependent on them. See "House of Numbers" and "rethinkingAIDS" for a good start. I have been "HIV positive" for 14 years (or longer - those tests are unreliable and very subjective; I suggest you think VERY carefully before taking an HIV test). Same thing about taking HIV drugs -- study first!!

I was diagnosed back in 1992,when I was 32,& apart from a bout of pneumonia back in April which had me hospital for 3 weeks I've been pretty healthy. @jessyboo133 Don't worry about the oral exposure. HIV is a very fragile virus, and the mouth is very resistant to infections. The only confirmed case of someone getting HIV from oral sex was someone with open, bleeding sores in their mouth.

As for the vaginal exposure, that sounds like rape, so I'm sorry. But even if he was HIV-positive, the chance of transmission from a single vaginal exposure is about 1 in 300. Since he didn't cum and you kept him from penetrating, the odds are 0.

@305boo As long as a person living with HIV uses condoms, it's safe to be sexually active, and many people with HIV have long term relationships with people who don't have it, and they remain negative. Women can safely have a baby without transmitting it to their child now. HIV for most, means a lifetime of meds and careful monitoring of one's health, as long as they have access to care.

Many hetero women are getting it now, and often from their partners or husbands. Unprotected sex with ANYONE can lead to HIV transmission. Get tested, and keep getting tested regularly with your partner. Use condoms. Don't think you can't get it.
