Genius is right. There is an instrument called a Gazuki which is very like the one Andy plays here, I have one tuned GDAE but equally at home with GDAD but have mine tuned Octave, same as my Bouzouki. The Gazuki is imported by Phil Williams in Cornwall, UK and it is really lovely.
it is definately an irish bouzouki in the shape of a guitar, NOT a mandola, and the song patrick street is about a sailor who comes home and spends all his money on drink and women
@BouzoukiBreton a mandola and bouzouki are so closely related that i feel if you modify the shape its neither one nor the other. but you're right. patrick street is an awesome song. i also like "Go to sea once more" which follows the same theme
Its the patrick street song

tuned low to high GDAD, this is true i asked him

yea GDAD is the equivilant to DADGAD on the guitar.
as far as i know the so called standard tuning of mandolin / mandola / tenor banjo / bouzouki / fiddle and probably a few more is GDAE.
i suppose its all down to personal preference

Andy plays a guitarbouzouki - guitarbody but with 4 double coursed strings like a bouzouki. Probably tuned like an octave mandolin og some open DADA.

I believe it's a mandola.
He has it custom made but many think it is a guitar due to it's shape. It has 8 strings (on the head there are 8 keys if you look.
He played with Planxty, check them out...........AWESOME
