I'm surprised no one has mentioned that the tune is "Ghosts" by the late jazz saxophonist Albert Ayler.
The bassist is Andy West from the Dixie Dregs/Dregs/
If this music upsets you so much I'd adviise you not to listen to anythng by Derek Bailey, Keith Rowe, AMM, Merzbow etc. etc. etc. Other folks listening to that stuff won't hurt you, so calm down.
@midniterunband No, man. This guy is dead friggin serious. That is the problem with him. He is a bored trust fund brat who got hooked on performing. He resorts to paying for these sickeningly self indulgent "jam sessions" to dupe the world into believing he is on some uber-enlightened plane of existence. Mozart was a real musical genius who challenged the musical perceptions of those alive in his time. Yet he never abandoned rhythm and melody. They are what touches one's soul.
Great shred of calypso rhythm - love the drum and bass guys here - so Fred Frith...
Oh, to the Buddhist Vegan who calls HK a 'cunt' - apart from working on your lack of compassion, perhaps reflect on what he has that you don't and that provokes you to abuse which discredits your, er,religion - what he has that you don't is FREEDOM. Please don't disgrace your religion any more - go back to the monastery - if they will have you back.
Also reminds me of Gary Lucas and his compositions with Walter Horn. Apart from the very appreciative comments here, it's good to see the crowd enjying it.
He's hired a film crew, an ex-someone who matters and his "stayin' in the guest house -his own personal Cato, let's say!" they all got tripped on ibogaine and now the film crew is going to document them (re)LEARNING how to play! It's like when you go see the gorilla exhibit. Gorilla scares you 1st. Then we get closer to the glass when we realize he can't get us. Then we back the f up cuz we really don't want to see up close. It's better we don't know what's under the grate he stands on
@t0psecretshit Mr. Kaiser would surely disagree. He would probably say some shit like, "time is relative to the observer and depending on which spatial plane one were presently occupying within the framework of spacetime, the common time signature could be reconfigured inherent upon...blahfuckinblahblahblah"
Talentless rich little spoiled brat playing with $2 million worth of toys to cure his own boredom and publicizing it to make the innocent working man suffer.
Totally agree. The guy is a cunt. Period. PS. I am a Buddhist Vegan who tries to see the best in everyone and speak to harm to anyone. I make an exception with Henry Kaiser.
@SixStringHarmonies WOW! Your ignorance of HK's life is simply astounding! Do you spew uninformed opinions about all topics,or just musicians you don't like?
@ThePunkjaz Exactly what qualifies me as "uninformed"? The FACT that he is a rotten brat from a family worth billions, whom spent his childhood in elitist boarding schools? (see: Kaiser-Permanente, Henry J. Kaiser, Kaiser Shipyards) Or is it that he is a repugnant waste of some of the most expensive musical gear on earth? (see: Dumble ODS, Teuffel Guitars) Hmmm? Which is it you fool? Think before you speak, ignorant child.
@SixStringHarmonies I come from a wealthy family, and I punch a time clock for a living, Maybe you still live in Mom's basement. I don't know, but judging by the hatred you have spewed here, you sure haven't matured emotionally beyond the age of 14 .As far as his sound, I get the fact you don't like it, but look at it this way, Henry's sound is totally recognizable as HIS sound. Not many pros can even say that. For a guy who has 3 or 4 professional careers thats an accomplishment for ANYONE.
@ThePunkjaz Regardless, this is still terrible. Too many untalented "musicians" make incoherent noise and call it "alternative." This was especially true in the early '90s when bands were too hip to learn how to play their instruments. In those days, fifteen seconds of out of key wailing was considered a guitar solo. This is no different. Just because it is different does not make it acceptable; and surely not appreciated.
@ThePunkjaz Yes, thank you for sharing all your wisdom and insight, whilst defending someone who wouldn't piss on you if you were on fire.
I HATE the fact that there are talented musicians out there who study and practice their asses off for thousands of hours, yet are stuck living out of their vans in total obscurity. All while the billionaire's son Henry Kaiser can BUY HIMSELF A RECORDING CAREER. He's an average blues guitarist with a ton of dough, who creates self indulgent swill
@SixStringHarmonies If you are into Urine, please keep it to yourself, behind closed doors. On the other hand Henry has been very friendly to me and to many others I know. Minor Music, SST, Rhino, Windham hill and other labels PAY HIM to record, not the other way around. Again, your FACTS are all wrong, and your opinions are full of petty jealousy. Why not put your Talent where your mouth is and record your own version of Dropped D and post it here (If you can get through 4 bars) LOL!
@ThePunkjaz Well you're obviously biased, so there's no point in arguing with you. Still waiting, for you're thesis on exactly which facts are wrong and why.... I am admittedly, utterly jealous of both Joe Bonamassa and John Mayer for their skill and catalog of ex-girlfriends. Never once did it occur to me, in any case, to maintain jealousy towards a dried up artifact of the 1980's whom 99.99% of humans have never even heard of, though they have heard his billionaire family name.

This song is better than his others, because he ALMOST makes a coherent melody.
He should be able to play Smoke on the Water by the time he's 80.
