  • My Grandpa served on the Shangri-La up until 62 I believe. Larry Richey, an electrician. I'll have to show him some of these videos.

  • My dad served aboard this ship in the 60s. I'll have to stear him towards this video. The poor old ship sat rusting in Philadelphia for years after retirment and finally they sold her to the Chinese scrappers to make razor blades or something.

  • My father, Earl Bower, was on the ship in 56 and 57. He was an air-intelligence officer and to this day can identify anything flying in the sky. A couple years ago, some man bet me that the ship never existed--even though I had proof my father was on the ship. The bet was for $100. He paid up when I showed him my dad's "yearbook" from the ship. Thanks, Shangri-la for the hundred bucks!

  • My grandpa was on the carrier 38 from 1952 to 1955 Perry sellers was his name and I'm trying to find out as much info as I can about his navy days. He was such a great man, sadly he passed in 89 and I only got a small portion of my life with this amazing man. Thank u for this video!!!!

  • My dad was on commissioning crew, stationed on twin 5"38 aft of the superstructure and I think he said division 3? He has mentioned a crewmate "Oldsie" Dad's name is John Kelly from Boston area he has passed now, if you knew him email me would love to say hi ! Also the ship has had many firsts, P-51 and PBJ take offs and landings. And I believe most powerful carrier for 9mos. after conversion Jan-Sept. '55 until Forrestal commissioned. ---thanks Dave

  • My father is also a plank owner and he too was on a 5" 38 mount. His name is Thomas Ives. Unfortunately, he passed this past march.

  • My father was on the Shangri la when they tested the Atom Bomb at Bikini Island. He is 82 yrs old and has nothing but good memories of being on this carrier. Would be nice to see more "stuff" on the Shang !

    He died of cancer at an early age and I always wondered if the Atom Bomb testing was a contributor to the cancer.

  • what i cant figure i know you guys are out there whats going this ship was great it got you home in on pc hope some of them guys are out there today there no way nobody as wrote anything about how great the shangri-la was so i think poeple should notice nobody on to write so i hope some of the shipmates are still around RICK

  • Thanks for posting this. My dad was a Navy pilot stationed on the Shangri-la 1944-45. His 85th birthday is coming up, and I was just poking around for photographs and accounts. He doesn't "do" computers, so he may never see this video, but I certainly enjoyed it.
