  • Very, very good list! Not quite in the order I would put them, but I still love most of the movies on your list! This is my top fifteen: 1) Citizen Kane, 2) Casablanca, 3) The Godfather, 4) Gone With the Wind, 5) Lawrence of Arabia, 6) The Wizard of Oz, 7) Raging Bull, 8) On the Waterfront, 9) Schindler's List, 10) Singin' in the Rain, 11) It's a Wonderful Life, 12) Sunset Boulevard, 13) The Godfather Part 2, 14) The Bridge on the River Kwai, 15) City Lights You have really good taste in movies!

  • your taste is just like me!!

  • 69: BONNIE AND CLYDE!!!

  • Great List.

  • Great list.....you can add three more, though because you have British movies listed--Dr. Strangelove and Lawrence of Arabia, and an Italian film: Once Upon a Time in the West.

    Super job.

  • One of the better lists I have seen, thought I would have included Titanic somewhere in there, even in the 90s. Thanks!

  • And all credit to the British mainstream actors and supporting actors who give so much to these fine American movies

  • Nice list

  • Great video. Enjoyed your list.

  • Excellent list and very well put together video. Way to go on Sunrise, Magnificent Ambersons, and John Ford! Obviously I disagree on placement of several things, but you still value the right movies enough to put them on the list. My Top 10: 1 Citizen Kane 2 Godfather 1&2 3 On the Waterfront 4 Casablanca 5 Gone With the Wind 6 It's a Wonderful Life 7 The Seventh Seal 8 Schindler's List 9 The Third Man 10 The Lord of the Rings Trilogy Sunrise, Amadeus, Chinatown, High Noon, 2001 round out top 15
  • at which point do you start giving the movies 5 stars?

  • Great List. One of the best I´ve seen. Good job.

  • I would rank Casablanca at number 1. You pretty much stole the list from AFI, but still it's a good list. I enjoyed the video.

  • Thanks for the comment but I wouldn't say that I stole the list from the AFI. There are 27 films on my list that the AFI didn't include on theirs.

  • Alfred Hitchcock is apsolutley one of the greatest directors of all time, and im not surprised that lots of those movies were his works

  • I enjoyed your list, but I don't know if I agree with some of it. Sunrise and Rear Window are amazing but I think they're a little to high. You like your Orson Welles huh?

  • Rear Window I'll give you, I may have slotted it a bit too high. I think Sunrise is fine where it is, its a landmark film and Murnau's best. As for Welles, IMO he is the greatest filmaker there ever was, all of his films were thoroughly organized and highly artistic. His films probably would have been even better but the studio system misunderstood his art and placed restrictions on what he could do.

  • most of these videos arent of all time but of this time so im very happy with this video

  • Thanks for the comment!

  • now im not you so i dont know (so if this isnt it im sorry) but i feel the first half really bests afi list but i think that becuse you pushed so many movies back you accidentally mess up in the last 1/4 of the list again your not me so i dont know but i think there are some movies in the top 20 you didnt want their but couldnt put back however i feel most list do well exceppt when you reach the teens sorry if im wrong but really if we had the same opion there is no reason to have top lists

  • Which ones in particular did you think could have been moved. The problem with posting a list like this is that once its up you can't change it. Right now I'm thinking I should have moved Raging Bull, Sunrise, and Some Like it hot down a couple slots and maybe boosted Its a Wonderful Life, On the Waterfront, and Sunset Blvd.

  • ya i think sunset blvd., on the waterfront should go up and the film i was speaking of were chinatown, it's a wonderful life, and some like it hot down

  • i also still feel the sting should be hear and this isn't an insult or anything but man you sure do like westerns

  • I had actually made the list out to somewhere around 175 movies, the sting just failed to make it on, it was around 105 or 106. As far as the westerns, I happen to really like John Ford's films and....he made A LOT of westerns lol

  • Do you believe there are no good films in the 2000s?

  • Sure good films are made in the 2000s, however, films need a couple of years to age so they hype of its original release and/or awards it has won dies down, this way it can be measured up against the others fairly. But I can honestly say that as the decades have passed since the 70's that less and less truly great movies are being made, however, thats just my opinion.

  • Well. Please just tell us why do you consider Kwai River, Lawrence of arabia, The third man and Kubrick british films, AMERICAN (?) films??????

  • Because the American Film Institute Does

  • in their latest addition of best movies the AFI ranked these British films

#7 - Lawrence of Arabia (Lean)

    #15 - 2001: A Space Odyssey (Kubrick)

#36 - Bridge on the River Kwai (Lean)

    #39 - Dr. Strangelove (Kubrick)

    #70 - A Clockwork Orange (Kubrick)

The Third Man was nominated but not considered one of the 100 best.

Also Dr. Zhivago (a USA/UK film) was on their original list in 1997

  • spelling correction, should be edition

  • wow all i can say is this list takes afi's and beats it to a pulp. while i dont 100% agree i defiantly that this is a great list (especially since your American film bound). i like it.
