I've listened to this dozens of times. At first because I thought it was blisteringly funny. But the more I listened to this, I started seeing the real genius of it.
To me the Steve and Eydie version of "Black Hole Sun" is a wonderful study in taking the tune and lyrics from one genre and dropping it into another. In this case from rock to Las Vegas Glitz, with no expense spared. Beautiful job by the arranger, the vocalists and all musicians involved in creating something beautiful.
I like it a lot. The original version is good too, but this is very cool as well. Just goes to show what can be done with a well written song. Steve and Eydie are probably the greatest singing duos there ever was, and Thankfully they Still are.
althought no one is denying chris rocks... nobody ever said steve and eydie were ever trying to rock this song. the album LOUNGE-A-POLOOZA feature a lot worse by more contemporary groups trying their hands at something a little "older school" At least Steve and Eydie keeo their own style intact singing something so out of character.
@L84teaIsMe Yeah I got that album, but Anka came very late to the party for lounge/swing covers of songs which were done to death in the 90s. Try Frank Bennett's "Creep" ('96), or Pat Boone's '97 album "In a Metal Mood".
brilliant....like it better than the original...but then again...i border on being a dinosaur...a very hip dinosaur...i happen to think Steve and Eydie were and are one of the classiest duo's ever to grace the entertainment world...sending love out to Steve and Eydie
Love the song but it reminds me of fallout 3

Beautiful arrangement! Also check out Paul Anka's big band version which I believe predates this one!
