As a japanese citizen born in Japan I can tell you this is a beautiful piece of history as rich as my own country which is much older. I do wish more Americans were more patriotic today. I think it takes a special kind of person to join the armed forces as it is the ultimate sign of patriotism. To risk ones own life for the freedom of ones own country is, in my mind, extremely honourable and worthy of much respect. I was saved from drowning at 10 by a US soldier here. My deepest gratitude.
There is one thing that Baltimore knows about is defense. Whether its football or otherwise. If it wasn't for Baltimore and New Orleans...there wouldn't be an America today.
I am from Baltimore. In my state of Maryland they proudly tell this story in our schools. (Even if its the last one they tell.) However, there are many other factors that are not addressed in this video. He doesn't tell you that the tradesmen and women sank their own ships to block the harbor from being invaded. That before the fight broke out that there was an invasion plan to also attack from the land at a place called North Point, which is now in modern day Dundalk. It failed as well.
They fought and died to free from tyrannical government. Liberty, individualism, freedom. They fought and died to free from tyrannical government. They fought and died to free from tyrannical government. They fought and died to free from tyrannical government.
With due respect, the burning of Washington's government building was revenge for the Americans burning the government building and the Parliament building in the Canadian capitol of the time York not, as you imply, revenge for losing the Revoltionary War.
Interesting how Pastor Rutherford's FIRST video, which was chock full of hyperbole and overblown misinformation (no fault of his, he used another speaker's script as a template, THIS video was his honorable attempt to redress the problem) generated MANY more YouTube hits. Seems that falsehoods make for greater popularity among the uber-patriotic!
I'm looking forward to the video blog posted condemning the use of predator drones which are killing thousands of people in Eastern Afghanistan and Western Pakistan.
@daynecurry the people in charge of our country now don't give a flying crap for our history, the sacrifices made nor even our sovereignty. What they are doing in Afghanistan and Western Pakistan is as wrong as everything else they are doing. True Americans are not like that.
Such a great video and reminder. Also interesting that the video is 9:11 in length...is that random, or just another reminder to stand together as Christian Americans? Great job, Pastor Dudley!
Unless you believe no one but Americans have a right to live free then you can't claim the US had a right to expand.
How is that A right? Did the Natives have no right to there own lands?
The reason no one remembers this war is because the devil is in the details.
The US started it over issues that had stopped meaning anything before the 1st shot was fired. It almost tore the US apart with the Hartford convention & the US military performance was mostly humiliating.
Baltimore was a military target because it was from there the US operated privateers who attacked British civilian merchant ships.
After the British ships expended their munitions they returned to Halifax to rearm for another assault. Cowering in a fortified bunker is not a win if the opposing force is free to reload & attack again.
If the USA had not given up its plans of annexing Canada & signed the Ghent the attacks would have continued.
USA declared war & invaded the British colony Canada while Britain was engaged with the Napoleonic wars.
The USA was the aggressor nation. In spite of a massive US advantage at the beginning of the war the US suffered humiliating defeat after defeat. Britain tried to make peace calling an armistice only to have the USA launch a 2nd wave of brutal attacks with horrendous civilian loss of life. It was not until Britain blocked the US coast & raided at will that the USA signed the Ghent Treaty.
wow, thats all i got.

Kudos to Pastor Rutherford for having the principles to do the right thing and tell the story in a factually correct way.

We had never wanted the war it was just US greed.

I respect your effort to right a wrong.
Much better than before, though interesting how the hyperbolic version is the one that gets all the hits.
The truth is never as salacious or attention-getting as the exaggeration.
