  • This seen I like best so mutch!

  • 1962 and 2009 both r good! life will go on...

  • Is this the ending of Act 1?

  • @ShaggifyThis The end of act one on broadway I believe is I feel Pretty.

  • Which cast is featured in this recording? I love this rendition!

  • @mbren116 I think its the broadway revival cast? i'm pretty sure Anita is played by Karen Olivio but dont take my word for it :)

  • I like the language mix. For me it's the quality of the music, and this has nothing to apologize for.

  • I saw the revival of this show last week (Nov. 17)! Even though I didn't understand the spanish parts it was absolutely amazing! Plus we got to do a broadway session with one of the cast members from the show with a Q&A with Kat who played Francisca in the show we were to see that night. She understudies Anita and Maria as well and is apparently the only girl who has played both Anita and Maria in the same production =D. Not to mention I got to meet the guy who played Bernardo! He was hot.

  • even though i don't understand the spanish part, i must say i love their singing and realism sooo splendid! ^^

  • even though the puerto ricans sang and spoke in spanish, it was still best play on broadway, and the best b day present i got. i really i hope i end up on that stage singing marias part with some random guy. haha! :)

  • I actually like this more than the original cast...

  • @yippedoodah The original is better!

  • Revival cast?

  • @dcbandnerd It sure is. I don't like how in the revival, all of the Shark scenes are in spanish. A lot of people, I've heard, got up and left the theatre because they didn't understand it.

  • @emoboi415 Not sure about you guys, but it asks alot of realisim to the song. I would of loved if it if they said tonight in spanish as well...

  • @isyou it does add some realism, but remember that the Puerto Ricans were likely to know English, and they do converse with the Jets, so they understand each other. It can be done in English, realistcally, but there should be a distinct spanish accent and maybe trouble with the english.

  • @emoboi415 Wow, you guys must not have watched the same musical. I don't know what your talking about but every critic and everyone whose seen it always says how amazing it was, even if they didn't understand the spanish parts. The time I went almost after every song there was a standing ovation and the roars of cheers and applause was just so fantastic. It was just a great night.

  • @CubicalGirl The problem with the spanish language thing is....when you assume that you can change decent sized sections of the language being spoken on stage and people will still get it because they already know the story...that's just really bad storytelling.

  • @wickedphant0m How is that bad storytelling? It's already famous, so they can subvert it by adding some realism in regards to language. Movies are moving away from having non-english speaking characters speak english in a foreign accent. For most musicals, making the same leap to dialogue in a foreign language is impossible, as subtitles with theater wouldn't work. But we can do this with an established story such as this.

  • @elerico The idea that the story is so famous that the revival didn't have to stand on it's own, but rather, relying on the the audience coming in and already knowing the whole thing was bad storytelling. I thought the concept of weaving spanish into the english was really cool and added lots of realism, but they went overboard with it to the point where it obscured the plot in some scenes to the huge chunk (at least half) of the audience that isn't proficient in spanish.

  • @elerico subtitles with theatre don't work? They do in Throughly Modern Millie.
