the only problem i have with this specific kind of LARPing is magic.......you have a huge orc swinging an axe around and a scrawny guy with I'm assuming tennis balls because I've seen that and the magic guy is supposed to be feared.....I lack the capacity to fear a tennis ball over a 6' 1" green guy with a battle axe the size of a full grown pine tree....

its too bad LARPERS are looked at so poorly. When I played I had some of the greatest times. I miss it its unfortunate that it takes so much time and dedication. I have so many hobbies!!!! Besides, it completely beats playing video games/mmorpgs. More skill is required than collecting power drops during power-leveling and mashing a sequence of buttons. Plain and simple; LARP = Fun.

LARPing is sooooooo much fun, but sadly, where I live, it's just me and some friends. We don't just run around wacking the hell out of each other or anything, we have like rules and systems and stuff set up to make it legitimate, so it's still fun, but I wish we had an opportunity to play a large, full scale game. My cousin in Atlanta was telling me about how they have them there and stuff, and I got jealous ;p

LARP is the best thing in the world. I personally prefer to act on emotions (fear, happiness, sorrow, joy, love etc.) Ive been LARPing for 5 years, and Ive never been in a fight.

Ohh, and by the way: I agree with ShikamaruXT. Do something abouat your costumes. Make/buy better looking weapons, use make-up and not only masks. Dont use anything that symbolise thing like armour, weapons and other appearances. Use the real thing instead (or as real as it can get).

I know many of the people in here, and when/where it was shot, so let me add some context if I may:

Some of the footage wasn't part of a larp, it was either the pre-show before the LARPY Awards (no comment), or showing off in a parking lot, etc. It's unfortunate that most of the footage is of fantasy larps; there are a lot in the US that aren't (e.g., vampire). Check out LARP Alliance or Shade's LARP list for one near you.

LOL, your weaps, ehem. Buy it in European shops, oh my god. German equip is much more comforetable than american. Me play and develop more and longer. I do not tell u how to play, but we try to play it like the "time" it was, more "medievallike". And slowly we get out of telling the damage, we play like it is and try to show, our magical armor more than just a blue band around our chest. Think of it ;)

The fighting styles are quite differant. In this vid, most of the people seem to be fighting individually, even when they are with the rest of their group/clan. Or they are fighting in a formal-looking "duel" style. The system I primarily larp in (I'm in the UK) often sees lots of shieldwalling, for example, and rank-based fighting, simply because we'd be shredded by the crew if we didn't. Search for the Outlore Trailers, you might find them interesting.

Ok, seriously, why say that? They're having fun, even if some of the weapons, costumes or other things are nearly as "high quality" as the euro larps, we still have fun. So instead of saying "it sucks" just say " In my opinion, the overall quality of euro larp is better".

Yes some American LARPs do suck but not all of them. You need to remember that most LARPs are fround upon over here because some people want to link it to shootings and other problems. As LARP is still somewhat new and people do not want to put forth the effort to understand it, it is a scapegoat for a lot of problems. Those who do LARP need to sugar coat and water it down. People have lost their jobs because their bosses found out they LARP.
