  • still have a thing for the keyboard player, after all these years.

  • Amazing album. One of my top 20 ever. Me and Howard Hughes, Eva Braun... very on the ball. This is best written of all their songs. Very dont stand so close to me but grittier.

  • By far the best song they did and its still shite !

  • Rats just did for me, so so so Excellent !! Early stuff was so post punk, but the lattter was bloody live aid !!!

  • this was the first single i bought way back when

  • He was a great frontman. Who needs Jagger? ; )

  • I'm so glad to see that the Boomtown Rats are appreciated on this forum. Yes, they were a great group that put on a fabulous stage show back in the late 70s/early 80s. I was quite lucky to have seen them in NYC back then. What a show they put on!

  • wow great memories

    love the rats

  • Fabulous tune.

  • Is it just me, or does the sound not sync with the video... by a mile!

  • tad taboo these days ....but wen it came out ..sounddddddddddddddds z

  • I saw them blow away The Pretenders in 1980!

  • We don't need no fuckin sync, lol

  • I remember seeing these first on Marc Bolans show singing 'Lookin after no.1'-bloody wonderful. They were always on TOTPs after, always looked great too.

  • what a load of shit

  • i used to get kicked fuck outta when i went up to dance when it came ion

  • Bob Geldof never saw himself as Mick Jagger. It was the media and press who made that story up.

  • @NaitchahBoy Your comment is just plain horrible. How on earth can you a school teacher say such a thing?

Good thing your sick remark has been archived. Deleting it will not make it go away.

  • @555h2so4 you still stalking messages from my computer, Matthew the 54 yr old pervert from Panama, FL? Or are you 55 now, 'cuz that's what you latest account suggests.

You are 1 creepy old man Herbert-type dude. Stick to "V for Valentines ATL Protest" youtube vids in your suspenders and mascara, you freak, and leave my computer which gets used by lots of people out of it!!!! HA HA HA HA HA HA HA

  • @NaitchahBoy . With every post made the hole you dig only gets deeper Richard Charles Gordon. Houston Texas school teacher. Your YT past will come back to haunt you. Future employers will see your name linked to hundreds of sick posts.

  • what a tune!!! never gets old!!!! :)

  • i dig yer vids

  • don't fancy urs much lol xx

  • wow its pink in a pink jacket. heh heh.

  • Trust me, this band were a big punk band at the time. I was there. The difference is they had the sense to more on when punk faded. As did Blondie, The Clash, The Stranglers and The Banshees.

  • @PaulBriden amazing how theyr overlooked-pratically everyone in my class bought rat trap-they were the punk/new wavers that actually had hits, let alone no.1s. I loved these & gen x, rizzillos, x ray spex, the damned best

  • @thelittlebombardier . Yes your right, it was the same when i was at school too. They were huge, and yes i agree they are overlooked, but they did influence all those that were old enough to buy records in 1979.

  • @thelittlebombardier

    Same here man

I was Rats silly and bought everything the did for years

Xray Spex, The Jam, Siouxsie and of course the brilliant Damned made the late 70's/80's bearable

  • He looks like Mick Jagger.

  • He thought he was Mick Jagger!

  • @scottvanska he wished!!!!

  • Can Gerry Cott play a guitar or what?

  • good start

  • M-M-M-M-M-MARY!!

  • Bob Geldof has a very weird voice, but i just like some songs of The Boomtown Rats.

  • its his voice that make them awesome

he said in his book that he was horrible, i was surprised when i listened to i dont like mondays; he's GOOD!

yea in a weird voice way tho...

    :]

  • sham 69 were just likely lads of london .. not punk

  • woot! i luv this song so much!

its amazing how he can make:

"well Johnny looks good tonite, she thinks."

    sound like:

    "well Johnny knocker tonite"

i was confused till i looked up the lyrics

    LOLZ!

    right well thats long enough

    cyaz

  • a great song, i think sir bob liked singing about schools as he sang i dont like monsays too. he always good at what he sang and always will be, i will always look up to him, thank you bob for such great music ang lyrics you knew exactley what was what,

  • boomtown rats aren't my fave band, but i still like them. JUST LISTEN TO THAT GUITAR! AMAZING!!!

  • i think it is bob geldof

  • great song but WEIRD EXSPRESSIONS!! 0.o

  • I admit that real punk is Sex Pistols, Sham 69, X-Ray Spex, Siouxsie Sioux, Ramones and so on...

But no one really cares about what you hate.

  • This my favorite song. :)

  • superb song.Brings back great memories,i was just leaving secondary school around the time this classic was out.

  • Rolling, Rolling...

Imagery in the the lyrics I mean.

  • Truly another one of my absolute favorites. Amazing imagery. Timeless.

  • just heard this on XM. Awesome song! Thanks for posting

  • This was my favourite Rats track - wicked!!

  • posted comment before i saw Jimmy Saville at end of clip - yup sure is TOTP.

  • thx for sticking it in here. one of first records i bought. bluddy classic Rats. is this Top of Pops clip???

  • I never knew what to call them New Wave or Punk.Loved Shes so modern and I never loved Eva Braun.

  • new wave also the greatest band to come outta ireland

  • That was what was so wild about that era. They didn't have a category for many bands like this (mid-late 70's) so they all got lumped into Punk rock. Later came the New wave genre. It seemed like people tried to separate bands like this from bands like Black Flag, the Dead Kennedys, Circle Jerks.. If the Ramones started the Punk Rock Revolution, Sir Bob wasn't far behind. Best Band Ever.

  • m, m , m ,m mary is getting a bit old ... a fuckin hag by all accounts ... boomtown rats are still brilliant though

  • excellent !!!!!!!!!!

  • Wow! Look how young Bob is!

  • Awesome track, the Rats rock

  • this song from the boomtown rats is shit

  • no this song is not shit - but your name is! you thick cunt! are you a gangster.....fucking tit!

  • It's a pity your opinion doesn't count.

  • checking out my old vinyl and for "a tonic for the troops"...this and rat trap were most played in the day

  • i wish i was alive when they were around!! they dont make em like that anymore!

  • 1 of the best songs from the 70s. A rock classic.

  • I used to go and see them play in Dublin back in 1976 in Moran's Hotel when they were just getting off the ground. It was a sweaty, smokey, violent, and dangerous place, and rightly so!! Fucking great

  • One of the forgotten should be classics from the most underrated best band of the 70s.

  • This is 1 of the best songs from the 70s!

  • I love every album from BTR at that time. Today too! Today there's no band like them!!

  • Me, too. They were my favourite band at the time. This is a much better version than the one on the album.

  • man, that takes me back

  • haha ma dads lead guitarist

  • Saw em in Berkley at the Zellerbach Theatre. The Dickies opened for them. This was a sit down theatre. (velvet covered seats) Needless to say we werent sittin. We tour that place up.

  • the bass makes it

  • I LOVE da'BoomTown Rats! Partied wit'em in Va.Beach!!!
