My son brandon was born with this condition, although he was born still. i will remember him forever, how his first breath would have sounded, how he would have looked blowing out the candles on his first birthday, the smile he would have had watching the woman he loved walk down the isle! i wanna say thank you for making this video, giving those without voices the chance to speack and trying to raise awareness, as it anecephaly isnt talked about like the other NTD out there. much love
To all people who say life is sacred: If life means so much to you, and you're willing to do ANYTHING to make sure EVERY baby is born, take some responsibility for these kids AFTER they've been born! Don't just say, "I've done my job. Good luck, Mom." Who will look after these "miracles'?
This is the worst antiabortion video ever. They chose a condition that involves brain death, medically considered the same as death. Even after these babies are birthed, they are not even technically alive- nothing but a body.
And then they show pictures of healthy fetuses at the end.
i do not care what religion you are or any persons its you're choice and i respect that much like the choice that every person should have yes I am pro-choice and this condition is all the more action to look into stem cell research we are barley touching the true potential of what it can do and these are very touchy subject matters but that is what i believe in. if any christians where offended by what i said then do what youre suppose to do and Forgive me :D
This is horrible. Fortunately their is a law that allows for doctors to not take actions to save the life of a neonate that will have no quality of life or is in pain and suffering. These babies are not really human because they have no brain. Parents that try to make them survive are not noble or good, they are selfish and sadistic. Death is better than suffering for any being that is in pain, the parents need to put the child first not their own fear of grief and loss.
@MikeGipsonUSAF thats what you think, god only sends them down into the mothers stomach and lets mother nature do the rest. thats why they call it "MOTHER nature".
@louib716 - its not "instinct" but reflex in recoiling - and there is a BIG difference. When you knock my knee with an instrument it may reflex - it is automatic like a robot - not even entering my brain but short circuiting the central nervous system. Instincts however have complex conscious corrolates such as the entire limbic system involved - yes its NOT "intelligence" but its not a reflex either.
@transformations1 sure, i understand that much. i was trying to make a point to someone who i thought was trying to say that an anecephalic baby would recoil in pain from abortion instruments, which is obviously a ludicrous statement.
I agree with @louib716 - it is very unlikely that the baby feels any pain or is even conscious IN ANENCEPHALY. There are many other conditions which are excrutiating extreme pain such as Harlequins Ichtheosis. However when there are is one hemisphere of the brain there would be consciouness & pain.
All atheists do NOT believe that. Why do people think that every atheist has the exact same thoughts. There are some atheists who are AGAINST abortion!
"Atheists believe a fetus is a person only once he is conscious." This is simply not true. The only thing atheists hold in common is a lack of belief in gods. Some are pro-life, some are pro-choice, in the same way that there are pro-life and pro-choice Christians. I don't hold any particular religious beliefs, and I'm pro-life. Every being has an inherent right to live. And I believe life begins at conception, because from the moment of fertilization, the zygote has its own unique DNA.
@shammadamma The idea that life begins at conception is a religious one. Scientifically, it is simply not true so there is no reason to believe that unless you believe in something supernatural, like a soul.
Fetus has the right to live? even if it wanted to die, it has to go through so much pain I would rather go through none of my life then go through a few minutes of it. I argue the bible on this subject.
this is the first time I have heard of Anencephaly and would like to thank you for explaining it to others. so sorry to the friends and families of these precious little babies.
@louib716 You`re absolutely correct in admonishing me. I was directing my comment at itsjustjasmine. I was mad at something else. It was inappropriate. And I apologize.
@waycooltoo dont worry about it. theres nothing to apologize for. i was just legitimately hoping that you were joking bc if u were serious, i would have had to lay into you.
@CawlinConveys It is too high. That is the change of being born with Spinabifida. The chance of this is 15% of that... so whatever that comes out to. :P
Thank you so much for uploading. Now I finally understand what the disease really does and that you can't call these childs "frog-babies". Show respect people and don't hating before you don't know what you are hating on!
To birth a baby with this condition or to abort it is only a decision the parents can make. Religions and the comments of others compound what is possibly one of the worst experiences in a lifetime into a worse one
Where is the line drawn re: cruelty when abortion is painful and so is the condition very possibly?
It too a woman of strength and character to unselfishly do this - thanks very much!
@natforgood Why would an abortion be painful? Fetuses don't feel pain until after 24 weeks and abortions performed after that always involve an injection to cause fetal death before they are evacuated.
Hi, I am not going to say that is best to abort or not, I think that some people are emotional stronger for that, others are not and may even be harmful for those to go on with the pregnancy. I chose to terminate at 13 weeks, 11 months later I had another baby. I honestly don't regret what I've done and would have done the same thing again. For me it was the right choice, instead of being depressed for the rest of the pregnancy, after 2 months I got pregnant and could smile again xx
this disorder really does blur the lines of what is considered to be a living being and what is not. never gaining consciousness and lacking the physical and intellectual capacity to have any types of thought, emotion, reasoning, or feeling is unimaginable. most of these babies are only born with a brain stem. in many cases only the medulla is functional allowing the body to only sustain the involuntary responses like breathing, blood pressure, heart rate, and some muscle movements.
My baby girl had anencephaly, she died at birth 10 years ago, she would have been my 3rd child. I was 7 mo when they discovered it, the dr said it would be best to have my pregnancy induced to avoid complications. I wish I would have carried her to term but I was young and scared and followed my Drs advice. But I do have 2 children, 1 boy and 1 girl that are healthy and I thank God for them every day.
I would've probably had my wife abort a baby with no forebrain. It's the only humane thing to do. You know he/she's going to eventually die after a few days so why prolonge its suffering?
i am only 20 a couple months back my daughter was born with this so for yu ppl say id do this or that when yr put in the situation yu dunno wat to do yu dont wanna believe it yu wann think they made a mistake bu if yu had any kind of a hert you would give your child a fighting chance and not abort your baby
You really got to take your steps carefully, but you really can't, can you? Sometimes just a simple genetic factor goes wrong and the baby is basically ruined for its self.
My nephew had Anecephaly, but he was still so beautiful. When you put the little hat on him, you couldn't even tell he had anything wrong. November will make one year since he's been gone. RIP baby Kolbe. I love you.
You are a strong woman , you went through all off this had the strength to talk about it, and helped others prevent it ... I dont know you and I can only wish you all the luck that can be given but idk y but I feel connected to u...
@biadomingues I'm sorry but your Abortion part was crap. first off your photo was a photo of a stillborn, not a aborted child AND not every atheist thinks that way and not every jesus believer thinks that way.
@LadySpagetti Hey bro, this is just a video of the disease. Whoever owns this account didn't say they have a child without a brain. Have any common sense little boy?
This breaks my heart. Not even the greatest enemy is ever wished this upon them. Dont know what to say for those effected by this. May God be with those going through such measures. Seeing babies go through this makes me question God's integrity sometimes. I wish we didnt have to go through pain. Can only donate tears in such awful times...
@ChelseaIsSoRandom "Live"? That's the weighted word, the organs keep working though, not for long. The oldest was "Baby K" (October 13, 1992-April 5, 1995) the brain stem is present but the cerebral cortex is rudimentary or absent. Lacking a functioning cerebral cortex, Baby K was permanently unconscious. Because no cognitive, conscious brain existed. Baby K could not feel pain. Baby K felt nothing. It is very sad. Donating the organs makes it worth something at least.
@etonks AND that's my point. It's a horrible thing to know the infant body is nothing more than a shell that cannot thrive. If you choose to go to term, you have more than enough time to prepare for donation. Perhaps meet the person or child your heart breaking choice will save. But to let it rot & go to waste is a shameful sin &I have NO respect for anyone who would do that or encourage that. If that makes me "Callous" & Inhuman" So be it! Because that would make Humans pretty lousy company.
…worldview, etonks, you have no right to judge any of these parents. They will do what they feel is right for their baby and they alone must bear the pain of this horrible diagnosis. Your callous attitude is appalling and unhuman.
@journey820 I said the truth. If that's too hard, you are only as callous & inhuman as you accuse me. I said that I would abort because I would not have the guts to bring this body to full term. I said that bearing this body only to WASTE the organs is selfish & therefore, the only reason someone would willingly do this is for the attention that fools like yourself so eagerly give. "Oh, how sad. Aren't they brave?" If they allowed a real child to die because of their waste, NO, NOT brave.
…(even others who've been through it) if they should decide to deliver the child and give him/her a proper burial in honor of the fact that it was a human life. Any other stillborn baby would be given a burial. It does give some closure. Many mothers love their child from the moment they discover they are pregnant. Should they be expected to just discard that love as nothing? Regardless of your personal (cont…)
…I think the difference comes down to reverence. I myself do believe God is the author of life and that an anecephalic baby is still precious in his sight. If the baby is terminated, they end up in a biohazard bag in the trash. I think it is great if the parents can make the months of sacrifice to end up donating the organs, but if they can't wrap their head around that either; nobody reserves the right to judge them (cont…)
@journey820 God put things into motion. Crap happens, that's life. What you do with it is your choice. Do not blame God for everything for God gave us free will. God gave me a thinking brain, I am not God's puppet. If God wanted me to be a puppet, God would not have given me a thinking brain. To not use your brain & hide behind some other human's dogma, is in itself a sin.
…Some people still hold a deep respect for all human life, regardless of its perceived state of "usefulness". Who are we to judge these families put in this awful position? Who are we to declare the value of life or when to be "done with it"? This is an excruciating decision for any family to make and either course of action will carry weighty and long-lasting consequences for those who are left to deal with it. (cont…)
@journey820 It is not a life. It is a thing. Caused probably by the lousy way humans have been treating this Earth. No one is saying that is NOT a horrible position to be put in. NO ONE said that. However, I feel IF you know what you fetus is and it will be a brainless shell, like this that should give you more than plenty of time to come to grips with it & do the right thing. If you believe that all these things are a "gift of Life" then GIVE it! To a real child who will play, laugh & THINK!
"They are selfish and looking for attention." -- This is the most ignorant statement I've read. It makes me very angry. My sister and her husband got this diagnosis yesterday and we've all been floored by it. Not the kind of attention anyone wants, certainly. Whatever decision they make, I support them 100%. Some people would not want to, by their decision, facilitate the killing of a human life. (cont…)
@journey820@journey820 Amen! I am 100% with you! worldview and etonks are both very narrow minded and they only consider this subject from one tiny point of view; almost reptilian in their cold indifference and inability to consider any other facet of the subject than their own.
@notanythingful Narrow? The big picture is usually out of the sights of the dogmatic fools. Can't see the forest for the trees?? How about you see a leaf and think you see all trees?
How much does this cost to bring this thing full term? AND who is paying that? When money could be better used for a REAL child with a chance and a thinking brain...oh wait...I guess these things do live longer, you and journey820 are still kicking and your cognitive brains are obviously non-existent!
@etonks To what dogma are you referring? It wasn't in our conversation. I guess I didn't mention that I'm an atheist; you wont be able to twist my words into that kind of allegation so easily. "narrow" refers to the hard fact that you are a spinster and a cat woman who has never reared a child and therefore you have no concept what love a mother feels for her child from the time it is conceived. You have an abridged version of what is factual, stemming strictly from your limited point of view.
@notanythingful Oooh an Atheist huh? So, what's your problem with anything I said? As far as my life, I am very well educated. My private life is MINE. But if you need to know, after a devastating miscarriage & failed marriage, I made a choice, a sacrifice to not add more humans to an already overpopulated world. I did that from love of the planet and of my would be children. I have niece's. That's enough. My kitties? They were throw aways. More victims of humanity's hypocrisy & arrogance.
@etonks Guess I hit the nail on the head with that last comment huh? You really kinda lost it there. I am just as entitled to an opinion as you are. I have four kids and FYI my son and I were just play racing matchbox cars today! How did you know?
What now? do I feel bad and admit how noble I think your so called sacrifice is?
@notanythingful I didn't lose a thing. Four kids? You are so proud of yourself because you reproduced... wow, something a dog can do. You asked, I told you.I lost nothing. Honestly, you are nothing to me so I don't care what you "think" about my personal choice. We just debate here. Is there something wrong with that? Matchbox cars are great! Hot Wheels too. My middle niece is CRAZY about cars! I was too. My Barbie's each had their own rides because in your imagination they can shrink to fit!
@journey820 "My sister and her husband got this diagnosis..." How convenient. If this is true, the choices that lay before them aren't easy. No one EVER said they were.
Dogmatic fools are so arrogant "human life" as if humans are more important than any other form of life God has made.
@janineaaaaaaa It can suffer about as much as a locust. Actually I think the locust has more going for it. I guess watching it suffer and die makes you "brave" in the eyes of fools.
Wether 2 1/2 years or 2 1/2 minutes, every child has the right for a chance at life, howeva brief. And out of sheer respect they have the rite to die in the company and arms of those who love them, even if they're not aware of it. They are not just brainless lumps of flesh to be aborted bcos they wont live very long. If you didnt know your child was anencephalic until he/she was born wld you then just walk away from 'it' cos 'its' not really a baby, you luv it entirely, or u wld if u had a brain
@Sparky8472 They ARE Brainless! That's the point! Sadly all that is, is a empty shell running on automatic. Why would anyone put themselves through that? Unless, they are going to donate the organs. Which is SO HUGE for the parents to do. On average of 18 people die each day from the lack of available organs for transplant. If you let it die, don't you think the organs should be used to save the life of a child that has a real chance at a real life? See Donatelife (dot) net
@Sparky8472 No, I'd weep over the futility of wasting emotion over a shell, the wasted time ,the loss of excitement and anticipation and sign the organ donation paperwork as soon as I could so a real child could have a chance at a life. Because letting all those healthy organs go to waste is the biggest sin of all.
FYI: at 2 1/2 minutes there's nothing there but some goo and dividing cells. Education. The more we know, the better we can help each other and this poor Earth we are destroying.
I am so very sorry for your loss. I simply cannot imagine your pain. However, I take an issue with your comment about what Christians believe. I am a Christian and I fully believe in a woman's right to choose. You chose your path and that is just fine. But others choose a different path and they are still Christians. Blessings to you!
Hi. In 2008 I terminated a anancephalic baby, felt pain for the first two months but carried on with life and was blessed soon after that with a healthy baby. I do respect those who carry their babies to full term what I do not respect are those videos who mention that going on with the preganancy is the only option or we are like a monster. I know that since I found videos on youtube all the pain came back, I never felt guilty and now I do. Those people have no idea what they can cause!
@Kieronruben Your'e not a monster. You did what you had to do. For you it was the right thing.Anyone who believes that God wants them to suffer, sadly doesn't know God.Crap happens & it's gut wrenching! But you do what you can & go on.I am sorry you had to face that, life has some truly awful times.Do not feel guilty. What could have been done? There's no cure, no hope of life except via organ donation to another. I can't imagine how hard that is. Take joy in your blessings & don't listen to jerks.
@etonks Thank you for your words. Indeed, before my anencephalic baby, I had a previous pregnancy with a baby who had spina bifida. Decided to carry on with the pregnancy, but at 22 weeks I had a late miscarriage. So when I discovered about the anencephaly I decided to terminate.I didn't want to put myself through that again, the labour, the loss. I respect everyone's choice, but for me it was the right one and I can say the longer I would carry the baby, the longer it would have been to recover.
@MarijuanaMichelle , the baby does not suffer, if it has no brain, u obviously hold no conscience before God, it's a living being, until death, who are we to "play" God, & terminate it's existance?
i'm Christian, but i don't think i could let it live. i would feel mean! it would only live for a week or so at the max, and it would have a high chance of being deaf blind or unable to feel pain as the video stated.
@doubleB745 I'm a christian also and I believe in abortions. I would most definitely have an abortion if I knew my baby was going to come out like that and die anyways. Why let it suffer? I agree that is very mean to carry to term.
giving birth to any baby who has little or no chance at survival is at times better than aborting them. Most of the time it's for those parents to give their love and farewells to the baby before letting go. And who's to say they can't feel pain? It's possible they feel it, yet can not show reaction to it. But leave the pro life/ pro choice arguments off here. Quit bashing parents for giving birth too. It's painful enough without you fools bashing them for it!
@Ash2Dust87 sometimes its better to abort when you actively know that the child will be in excruciating pain and has almost a zero percent chance of living, but thats just my opinion. im not looking for an argument or anything.
@louib716 i agree, what's the point of life if you don't know what happiness is, only pain? I don't really know what they feel though because I obviously wasn't born with it.. sad though :(
@louib716 Babies can feel the pain of abortion, too. You see them trying to get away from the deadly instruments when you watch an abortion via ultrasound.
@unsungbaker i think you give fetuses too much credit in terms of their intelligence. the only fear that babies are instinctively born with is the fear of falling, so it would not have any reaction to abortion instruments. what you see in those ultrasounds is what you must be perceiving that you see, because frankly what you have just described is impossible.
@louib716 For some reason, this site won't let me post my source, but here's a quote: "Having administered anesthesia for fetal surgery, I know that on occasion we need to administer anesthesia directly to the fetus, because even at these early gestational ages the fetus moves away from the pain of the stimulation,” stated David Birnbach, M.D., president of the Society for Obstetric Anesthesia and Perinatology and self-described as “pro-choice,” in testimony before the U.S. Congress.
@unsungbaker you are correct in that sense since a normal baby probably would respond to pain (i was under the assumption that you meant that the baby would respond to just the physical presence of the instruments), but i dont think a baby with anecephaly would respond this way since higher brain centers are needed to experience it (most babies with this disorder have a brainstem at most). the brainstem only functions in vegetative functions (i.e breathing).
You can't seriously be arguing that a living human being would not recoil from instruments being used to end its life. It's not "intelligence," it's instinct. We all have an innate instinct to survive, and it should be glaringly obvious that fetuses can feel pain. The nervous system begins to develop very early in gestation.
@shammadamma a baby would respond to pain. NOT to JUST the physical presence of the instruments. also, if you watched the video and understand what anecephaly is, then you should realize that the nervous system of a fetus like this is abnormal. you cant feel pain if you only have a brainstem. it's a physiological impossibility. no pain=no recoil.
@louib716 If you knew anything, you would know that anencephaly is a disease where the baby cannot feel pain, nor is the baby ever even conscious. i'm not necessarily disagreeing with anything else you said.
I would never carry a baby that could not be aware of it's own existence, that could never have fun, and that wouldn't have a LIFE even though the body would function.
That was beautiful.. brought tears to my eyes. These babies never had a shot at life, to make someone happy, to smile, to see the beauty that hides in this world. But for the moments they did remain on this planet, they were definitely cherished by the ones who already loved them so much. :) These mothers were very strong.
once an egg is fertilized, it IS a human being because it most likeley will grow up to become a normal human bein like u and me. if you dont agree, then ask yourself... do you believe its right to kill babies?
Consciousness is what makes a being a being, distinct from physical matter. If this body never had consciousness in it and had no potential to, then it was simply a growth of cells and nothing more.
No doubt this would be an extremely disturbing, painful experience for the parents, having anticipated an actual living child.
i don find a good reason 2 deliver dat child. its sad.. my heart breaks thinkin abt it.. bt i consider abortion a betr choice... dr s always a gud reason y God says ok 2 dese tings... pls, pls pls, don let dat child suffer by allowing him in dis world. seeing d baby wil break t hearts of its parents. sad!!! y shld it die in pain?? its betr 4 it 2 die wen it has not startd breathing. if i wr dat fetus, dis would hv been my choice..!!! :-(
I Googled the longest living anencephalic body. It was a Brazilian male. The body died after 2 1/2 years. Look, if you wouldn't have an abortion that's fine but believing in the right to choose does not make one an Atheist. God gave me a thinking brain & I'd abort a brainless fetus. I do not think these women who willingly go to term only to let the body die and NOT harvest the organs for real children are good people or brave. They are selfish and looking for attention.
@etonks Wow... I know a woman who had a baby with this disorder, and believe me when I tell you that there was not a single selfish motive in this woman's heart. Carrying that baby to term was and is the hardest thing she has ever done in her life. You have absolutely no right to judge them based on the choices and beliefs these women make. If you believe in the right to "choose", then you need to not judge the other choice.
@vwhi81defend your friend all you wish, it's my choice & my right to believe that bringing this full term only to bury it and NOT give the perfectly good organs to a viable child who needs them IS selfish.
It can't be anything else. No one's perfect. Being unselfish is hard. I can't imagine how hard this is but you must look at the big picture. If you think God caused you to go through this, you have to think that there was a reason. What better reason than to help another?
@etonks Wow... I know a woman who had a baby with this disorder, and believe me when I tell you that there was not a single selfish motive in this woman's heart. Carrying that baby to term was and is the hardest thing she has ever done in her life. You have absolutely no right to judge them based on the choices and beliefs these women make. Everything deserves a chance at life. Every living thing.
I do not beleive in god because why would god let these children be that way?
You know a lot of horrible stuff happens to animals and people. Why would he allow that?
Everything deserves to live. This disease is really sad. It's sad that the children weren't even born yet. (the ones that are aborted or stillborn) I don't like abortion. They didn't even get a chance.
@RotisserieiJamie That's my point, viable children deserve to live. If you're going to go to term with one of these things, donate the healthy organs to child who needs them. Organs are too precious to waste. God has nothing to do with it. "We" humans blame God for way too much. God set things in motion and gave us free will. Crap happens, that's life. How we deal with it is the lesson. Do you wallow in self pity? Abort a failed fetus? Or help another live? No one said it's an easy choice.
@etonks how can you say thay are not real children? Lots of babies are born without different organs and other things they are human and there is a reason for everything they are REAL children in whom their family loves and like I said their is a reason for everything even if we dont like . They breath , eat, cry and the most important thing, they have a beating heart. No matter what religion you believe in that has to account for something if not everything . They are babies
@barbiegirl1622 REAL children have feeling, thoughts & emotions. They are happy, they learn, they grow they LIVE life, they have dreams & goals. These brainless living bodies have only the rudimentary auto pilot brain that runs organs & basic survival reactions all creatures have. It does not think, does not have emotions, does not learn, does not love, nothing. This is very sad. It is merely a living shell. There's no one in there. There never will be. EVER. I stick with my original thought.
@etonks ..you have no consideration for those who've been in this situation..and how you called them a living shell was way not human..so, if you said that "REAL CHILDREN HAVING FEELINGS, THOUGHTS, AND EMOTIONS" THEN YOU CAN CONSIDER YOURSELF AS AN EMPTY SHELL BECAUSE YOU HAVE NO FEELINGS FOR THESE POOR BABIES OR THEIR PARENTS, NO THOUGHTS - BECAUSE YOU DO NOT KNOW HOW TO USE YOUR BRAIN (IF YOU HAD ONE?), AND YOU HAVE NO EMOTIONS BECAUSE YOU SIMPLY DONT HAVE IT..
@melimagdalene You can't have feelings, thoughts, emotions, etc UNLESS you have a cognitive brain.Even you, have a cognitive brain though you've long forgotten how to use it. People go through the pain of having a pregnancy end up like this, without a 'thinking' brain and you waste your's? Shameful. The cognitive brain is who we are. This this thing has only the auto pilot we all have. It's only job is to keep the body alive it can't think, emote or anything it's like a battery. Batteries don't feel.
@notanythingful What exactly do you mean by "Everything is connected."? If you mean physically in the "head" of this error you are clouded by your force fed dogma. There is NO Cognitive brain. That, for you idiots, means there is nothing in there to think with. It runs on something we all have called the "Autonomic System". Which is why I said it is selfish to NOT donate the perfectly good organs to a real viable child or just end it in the first place if you are just going to waste the organs.
@etonks ..you have no consideration for those who've been in this situation..and how you called them a living shell was way not human..so, if you said that "REAL CHILDREN HAVE FEELINGS, THOUGHTS, AND EMOTIONS" THEN YOU CAN CONSIDER YOURSELF AS AN EMPTY SHELL BECAUSE YOU HAVE NO FEELINGS FOR THESE POOR BABIES OR THEIR PARENTS, NO THOUGHTS - BECAUSE YOU DO NOT KNOW HOW TO USE YOUR BRAIN (IF YOU HAD ONE?), AND YOU HAVE NO EMOTIONS BECAUSE YOU SIMPLY DONT HAVE IT..
@melimagdalene It is only organs, skin, etc. There is NO thinking brain! There are NO emotions! Why are you so stupid? I do not think these women who willingly go to term only to let the body die and NOT harvest the organs for real children are good people or brave. They are selfish and looking for attention.
@etonks Or they live in third world countries with limited medical resources as is true in almost all cases!!! And you say you have a brain? I disagree, your a judgmental fool at best.
Respond to this video... by WILLINGLY i mean they have the opportunity to choose you dim wit. Obviously if the woman has no way to choose she can't choose now can she? Idiot.
@etonks The other thing that should be said to you here is that people all have all sorts of different reasons for going through with a full pregnancy, sometimes people have a different theology at heart than you do. You actually have the gall to say that people only go full term with severe birth defects for attention? You are a horrible person with a very narrow grasp on the human condition. Your obviously naive en extreme about love, life and children.
@notanythingful I am NOT afraid of stating the truth. I DO NOT nor will EVER believe women who WILLINGLY go to term only to let the body die & NOT harvest the organs for real VIABLE children are good or brave. They are selfish & looking for attention. If you aren't looking for admiration, you keep it to yourself.
The women who DO go to term knowing the fetus is a only a brainless shell but go through it specifically to donate the organs to someone who NEEDS them ARE brave & good. See Altruism.
@etonks You lack so much insight here. I guess you dont understand how difficult it is for a mother to let go of a child or bear the thought of some things. I do think it's a good idea to allow organs to be donated but the way you aproach this subject is reptilian in it's lack of emotion or consideration for those involved. To a mother a baby is loved from the time it is conceived regardless of its physical state and you are failing to acknowledge the human aspect of this in all its diversity.
@notanythingful If I was unfortunate enough to have this happen to my fetus, I would be smart enough to start with a healthy clean slate and try for a another child. It's rare enough that you have a good chance of it not happening again, though no guarantees. I could not bring a thing like this full term. Those who do to donate the organs are brave, strong and loving of others. Those who don't are selfish or ignorant.
Those who couldn't know, they aren't a part of this argum
CHRIST!!!! :O

SailorBalance 1 week ago
This is the worst antiabortion video ever. They chose a condition that involves brain death, medically considered the same as death. Even after these babies are birthed, they are not even technically alive- nothing but a body.
And then they show pictures of healthy fetuses at the end.

How can people believe in "intelligent design" when watching this ?
transformations1 1 month ago
@louib716 - its not "instinct" but reflex in recoiling - and there is a BIG difference. When you knock my knee with an instrument it may reflex - it is automatic like a robot - not even entering my brain but short circuiting the central nervous system. Instincts however have complex conscious corrolates such as the entire limbic system involved - yes its NOT "intelligence" but its not a reflex either.
transformations1 1 month ago
@transformations1 sure, i understand that much. i was trying to make a point to someone who i thought was trying to say that an anecephalic baby would recoil in pain from abortion instruments, which is obviously a ludicrous statement.
louib716 1 month ago
I agree with @louib716 - it is very unlikely that the baby feels any pain or is even conscious IN ANENCEPHALY. There are many other conditions which are excrutiating extreme pain such as Harlequins Ichtheosis. However when there are is one hemisphere of the brain there would be consciouness & pain.

And I believe life begins at conception, because from the moment of fertilization, the zygote has its own unique DNA.
shammadamma 1 month ago
@shammadamma The idea that life begins at conception is a religious one. Scientifically, it is simply not true so there is no reason to believe that unless you believe in something supernatural, like a soul.

To birth a baby with this condition or to abort it is only a decision the parents can make. Religions and the comments of others compound what is possibly one of the worst experiences in a lifetime into a worse one
Where is the line drawn re: cruelty when abortion is painful and so is the condition very possibly?
It too a woman of strength and character to unselfishly do this - thanks very much!
natforgood 3 months ago
@natforgood Why would an abortion be painful? Fetuses don't feel pain until after 24 weeks and abortions performed after that always involve an injection to cause fetal death before they are evacuated.
labonneruerouge 2 weeks ago
Hi, I am not going to say that is best to abort or not, I think that some people are emotional stronger for that, others are not and may even be harmful for those to go on with the pregnancy. I chose to terminate at 13 weeks, 11 months later I had another baby. I honestly don't regret what I've done and would have done the same thing again. For me it was the right choice, instead of being depressed for the rest of the pregnancy, after 2 months I got pregnant and could smile again xx
Kieronruben 3 months ago
this disorder really does blur the lines of what is considered to be a living being and what is not. never gaining consciousness and lacking the physical and intellectual capacity to have any types of thought, emotion, reasoning, or feeling is unimaginable. most of these babies are only born with a brain stem. in many cases only the medulla is functional allowing the body to only sustain the involuntary responses like breathing, blood pressure, heart rate, and some muscle movements.
XxSuperStreetxX 3 months ago
My baby girl had anencephaly, she died at birth 10 years ago, she would have been my 3rd child. I was 7 mo when they discovered it, the dr said it would be best to have my pregnancy induced to avoid complications. I wish I would have carried her to term but I was young and scared and followed my Drs advice. But I do have 2 children, 1 boy and 1 girl that are healthy and I thank God for them every day.

More than 100,000 men, women and children currently need life-saving organ transplants.
Every 10 minutes another name is added to the national organ transplant waiting list.
An average of 18 people die each day from the lack of available organs for transplant.
In 2009, there were 8,021 deceased organ donors and 6,610 living organ donors resulting in 28,465 organ transplants.

etonks 7 months ago
@etonks AND that's my point. It's a horrible thing to know the infant body is nothing more than a shell that cannot thrive. If you choose to go to term, you have more than enough time to prepare for donation. Perhaps meet the person or child your heart breaking choice will save. But to let it rot & go to waste is a shameful sin &I have NO respect for anyone who would do that or encourage that. If that makes me "Callous" & Inhuman" So be it! Because that would make Humans pretty lousy company.
etonks 7 months ago
…worldview, etonks, you have no right to judge any of these parents. They will do what they feel is right for their baby and they alone must bear the pain of this horrible diagnosis. Your callous attitude is appalling and unhuman.
journey820 8 months ago
@journey820 I said the truth. If that's too hard, you are only as callous & inhuman as you accuse me. I said that I would abort because I would not have the guts to bring this body to full term. I said that bearing this body only to WASTE the organs is selfish & therefore, the only reason someone would willingly do this is for the attention that fools like yourself so eagerly give. "Oh, how sad. Aren't they brave?" If they allowed a real child to die because of their waste, NO, NOT brave.
etonks 7 months ago
…(even others who've been through it) if they should decide to deliver the child and give him/her a proper burial in honor of the fact that it was a human life. Any other stillborn baby would be given a burial. It does give some closure. Many mothers love their child from the moment they discover they are pregnant. Should they be expected to just discard that love as nothing? Regardless of your personal (cont…)
journey820 8 months ago
…I think the difference comes down to reverence. I myself do believe God is the author of life and that an anecephalic baby is still precious in his sight. If the baby is terminated, they end up in a biohazard bag in the trash. I think it is great if the parents can make the months of sacrifice to end up donating the organs, but if they can't wrap their head around that either; nobody reserves the right to judge them (cont…)
journey820 8 months ago
@journey820 God put things into motion. Crap happens, that's life. What you do with it is your choice. Do not blame God for everything for God gave us free will. God gave me a thinking brain, I am not God's puppet. If God wanted me to be a puppet, God would not have given me a thinking brain. To not use your brain & hide behind some other human's dogma, is in itself a sin.
etonks 7 months ago
…Some people still hold a deep respect for all human life, regardless of its perceived state of "usefulness". Who are we to judge these families put in this awful position? Who are we to declare the value of life or when to be "done with it"? This is an excruciating decision for any family to make and either course of action will carry weighty and long-lasting consequences for those who are left to deal with it. (cont…)
journey820 8 months ago
@journey820 It is not a life. It is a thing. Caused probably by the lousy way humans have been treating this Earth. No one is saying that is NOT a horrible position to be put in. NO ONE said that. However, I feel IF you know what you fetus is and it will be a brainless shell, like this that should give you more than plenty of time to come to grips with it & do the right thing. If you believe that all these things are a "gift of Life" then GIVE it! To a real child who will play, laugh & THINK!
etonks 7 months ago
"They are selfish and looking for attention." -- This is the most ignorant statement I've read. It makes me very angry. My sister and her husband got this diagnosis yesterday and we've all been floored by it. Not the kind of attention anyone wants, certainly. Whatever decision they make, I support them 100%. Some people would not want to, by their decision, facilitate the killing of a human life. (cont…)

@journey820 @journey820 Amen! I am 100% with you! worldview and etonks are both very narrow minded and they only consider this subject from one tiny point of view; almost reptilian in their cold indifference and inability to consider any other facet of the subject than their own.
notanythingful 7 months ago
@notanythingful Narrow? The big picture is usually out of the sights of the dogmatic fools. Can't see the forest for the trees?? How about you see a leaf and think you see all trees?
How much does this cost to bring this thing full term? AND who is paying that? When money could be better used for a REAL child with a chance and a thinking brain...oh wait...I guess these things do live longer, you and journey820 are still kicking and your cognitive brains are obviously non-existent!
etonks 7 months ago
@etonks To what dogma are you referring? It wasn't in our conversation. I guess I didn't mention that I'm an atheist; you wont be able to twist my words into that kind of allegation so easily. "narrow" refers to the hard fact that you are a spinster and a cat woman who has never reared a child and therefore you have no concept what love a mother feels for her child from the time it is conceived. You have an abridged version of what is factual, stemming strictly from your limited point of view.
notanythingful 7 months ago
@notanythingful Oooh an Atheist huh? So, what's your problem with anything I said? As far as my life, I am very well educated. My private life is MINE. But if you need to know, after a devastating miscarriage & failed marriage, I made a choice, a sacrifice to not add more humans to an already overpopulated world. I did that from love of the planet and of my would be children. I have niece's. That's enough. My kitties? They were throw aways. More victims of humanity's hypocrisy & arrogance.

Sparky8472 8 months ago
@Sparky8472 They ARE Brainless! That's the point! Sadly all that is, is a empty shell running on automatic. Why would anyone put themselves through that? Unless, they are going to donate the organs. Which is SO HUGE for the parents to do. On average of 18 people die each day from the lack of available organs for transplant. If you let it die, don't you think the organs should be used to save the life of a child that has a real chance at a real life? See Donatelife (dot) net
etonks 7 months ago
@Sparky8472 No, I'd weep over the futility of wasting emotion over a shell, the wasted time ,the loss of excitement and anticipation and sign the organ donation paperwork as soon as I could so a real child could have a chance at a life. Because letting all those healthy organs go to waste is the biggest sin of all.
FYI: at 2 1/2 minutes there's nothing there but some goo and dividing cells. Education. The more we know, the better we can help each other and this poor Earth we are destroying.

I do respect those who carry their babies to full term what I do not respect are those videos who mention that going on with the preganancy is the only option or we are like a monster. giving birth to any baby who has little or no chance at survival is at times better than aborting them.

@louib716 i agree, what's the point of life if you don't know what happiness is, only pain? I don't really know what they feel though because I obviously wasn't born with it.. sad though :(
ItsJustJasmine 3 months ago
@louib716 Babies can feel the pain of abortion, too. You see them trying to get away from the deadly instruments when you watch an abortion via ultrasound.
unsungbaker 2 months ago
@unsungbaker i think you give fetuses too much credit in terms of their intelligence. the only fear that babies are instinctively born with is the fear of falling, so it would not have any reaction to abortion instruments. what you see in those ultrasounds is what you must be perceiving that you see, because frankly what you have just described is impossible.
louib716 1 month ago
@louib716 What? Even a pro-choice doctor says fetuses feel pain. I don't know where you get your info, but modern science proves your ignorance.
unsungbaker 1 month ago
@louib716 For some reason, this site won't let me post my source, but here's a quote: "Having administered anesthesia for fetal surgery, I know that on occasion we need to administer anesthesia directly to the fetus, because even at these early gestational ages the fetus moves away from the pain of the stimulation,” stated David Birnbach, M.D., president of the Society for Obstetric Anesthesia and Perinatology and self-described as “pro-choice,” in testimony before the U.S. Congress.
unsungbaker 1 month ago
@unsungbaker you are correct in that sense since a normal baby probably would respond to pain (i was under the assumption that you meant that the baby would respond to just the physical presence of the instruments), but i dont think a baby with anecephaly would respond this way since higher brain centers are needed to experience it (most babies with this disorder have a brainstem at most). the brainstem only functions in vegetative functions (i.e breathing).
louib716 1 month ago
@louib716
You can't seriously be arguing that a living human being would not recoil from instruments being used to end its life. It's not "intelligence," it's instinct. We all have an innate instinct to survive, and it should be glaringly obvious that fetuses can feel pain. The nervous system begins to develop very early in gestation.
shammadamma 1 month ago
@shammadamma a baby would respond to pain. NOT to JUST the physical presence of the instruments. also, if you watched the video and understand what anecephaly is, then you should realize that the nervous system of a fetus like this is abnormal. you cant feel pain if you only have a brainstem. it's a physiological impossibility. no pain=no recoil.
louib716 1 month ago
@louib716 If you knew anything, you would know that anencephaly is a disease where the baby cannot feel pain, nor is the baby ever even conscious. i'm not necessarily disagreeing with anything else you said.

@lldsandsll yes. i wrote that comment four months ago, took an anatomy and physiology class, and realized that lol.
louib716 1 month ago
@louib716 it cant feel any pain. the parts of the brain responsible for pain etc. are absent.
but i agree completely with the abortion sentiment. it isnt a person, it is a shell. an empty vessel.
volound 4 weeks ago
@volound ik ik i wrote that before i knew that, but even so, i think it also applies to other types of pregnancies as well.

I would never carry a baby that could not be aware of it's own existence, that could never have fun, and that wouldn't have a LIFE even though the body would function.

Nice. turn an informational video into a fight about abortions and whatnot. Are you guys totally moronic or what?
TheBoochan82 1 year ago
That was beautiful.. brought tears to my eyes. These babies never had a shot at life, to make someone happy, to smile, to see the beauty that hides in this world. But for the moments they did remain on this planet, they were definitely cherished by the ones who already loved them so much. :) These mothers were very strong.

once an egg is fertilized, it IS a human being because it most likeley will grow up to become a normal human bein like u and me. if you dont agree, then ask yourself... do you believe its right to kill babies?
kitward24 1 year ago
Consciousness is what makes a being a being, distinct from physical matter. If this body never had consciousness in it and had no potential to, then it was simply a growth of cells and nothing more.
No doubt this would be an extremely disturbing, painful experience for the parents, having anticipated an actual living child.
frigidifold 1 year ago
but that's only if there was NO consciousness..which of course is not necessarily the case. How would you know?

i don find a good reason 2 deliver dat child. its sad.. my heart breaks thinkin abt it.. bt i consider abortion a betr choice... dr s always a gud reason y God says ok 2 dese tings... pls, pls pls, don let dat child suffer by allowing him in dis world. seeing d baby wil break t hearts of its parents. sad!!! y shld it die in pain?? its betr 4 it 2 die wen it has not startd breathing. if i wr dat fetus, dis would hv been my choice..!!! :-(

if there was a God no mother would have born a child like this and such creation would be unable to enter this world.

If you believe in the right to "choose", then you need to not judge the other choice.
vwhi81 1 year ago
@vwhi81defend your friend all you wish, it's my choice & my right to believe that bringing this full term only to bury it and NOT give the perfectly good organs to a viable child who needs them IS selfish.
It can't be anything else. No one's perfect. Being unselfish is hard. I can't imagine how hard this is but you must look at the big picture. If you think God caused you to go through this, you have to think that there was a reason. What better reason than to help another?

@etonks , everything deserve to live.
RotisserieiJamie 1 year ago
Everything deserves a chance at life. Every living thing.
I do not beleive in god because why would god let these children be that way?
You know a lot of horrible stuff happens to animals and people. Why would he allow that?
Everything deserves to live. This disease is really sad. It's sad that the children weren't even born yet. (the ones that are aborted or stillborn) I don't like abortion. They didn't even get a chance.
RotisserieiJamie 1 year ago
@RotisserieiJamie That's my point, viable children deserve to live. If you're going to go to term with one of these things, donate the healthy organs to child who needs them. Organs are too precious to waste. God has nothing to do with it. "We" humans blame God for way too much. God set things in motion and gave us free will. Crap happens, that's life. How we deal with it is the lesson. Do you wallow in self pity? Abort a failed fetus? Or help another live? No one said it's an easy choice.
etonks 1 year ago
@etonks VERY well said.
sikkmage81 1 year ago
@etonks how can you say thay are not real children? Lots of babies are born without different organs and other things they are human and there is a reason for everything they are REAL children in whom their family loves and like I said their is a reason for everything even if we dont like . They breath , eat, cry and the most important thing, they have a beating heart. No matter what religion you believe in that has to account for something if not everything . They are babies
barbiegirl1622 9 months ago
@barbiegirl1622 REAL children have feeling, thoughts & emotions. They are happy, they learn, they grow they LIVE life, they have dreams & goals. These brainless living bodies have only the rudimentary auto pilot brain that runs organs & basic survival reactions all creatures have. It does not think, does not have emotions, does not learn, does not love, nothing. This is very sad. It is merely a living shell. There's no one in there. There never will be. EVER. I stick with my original thought.
etonks 9 months ago
@etonks ..you have no consideration for those who've been in this situation..and how you called them a living shell was way not human..so, if you said that "REAL CHILDREN HAVING FEELINGS, THOUGHTS, AND EMOTIONS" THEN YOU CAN CONSIDER YOURSELF AS AN EMPTY SHELL BECAUSE YOU HAVE NO FEELINGS FOR THESE POOR BABIES OR THEIR PARENTS, NO THOUGHTS - BECAUSE YOU DO NOT KNOW HOW TO USE YOUR BRAIN (IF YOU HAD ONE?), AND YOU HAVE NO EMOTIONS BECAUSE YOU SIMPLY DONT HAVE IT..
melimagdalene 8 months ago
@melimagdalene You can't have feelings, thoughts, emotions, etc UNLESS you have a cognitive brain.Even you, have a cognitive brain though you've long forgotten how to use it. People go through the pain of having a pregnancy end up like this, without a 'thinking' brain and you waste your's? Shameful. The cognitive brain is who we are. This this thing has only the auto pilot we all have. It's only job is to keep the body alive it can't think, emote or anything it's like a battery. Batteries don't feel.
etonks 8 months ago
@etonks you couldnt be more wrong. Everything is connected. You are clearly a dangerous sociopath with deeply flawed logic.
notanythingful 8 months ago
@notanythingful What exactly do you mean by "Everything is connected."? If you mean physically in the "head" of this error you are clouded by your force fed dogma. There is NO Cognitive brain. That, for you idiots, means there is nothing in there to think with. It runs on something we all have called the "Autonomic System". Which is why I said it is selfish to NOT donate the perfectly good organs to a real viable child or just end it in the first place if you are just going to waste the organs.

@melimagdalene It is only organs, skin, etc. There is NO thinking brain! There are NO emotions! Why are you so stupid? I do not think these women who willingly go to term only to let the body die and NOT harvest the organs for real children are good people or brave. They are selfish and looking for attention.
etonks 8 months ago
@etonks Or they live in third world countries with limited medical resources as is true in almost all cases!!! And you say you have a brain? I disagree, your a judgmental fool at best.
notanythingful 8 months ago
Respond to this video... by WILLINGLY i mean they have the opportunity to choose you dim wit. Obviously if the woman has no way to choose she can't choose now can she? Idiot.
etonks 8 months ago
@etonks The other thing that should be said to you here is that people all have all sorts of different reasons for going through with a full pregnancy, sometimes people have a different theology at heart than you do. You actually have the gall to say that people only go full term with severe birth defects for attention? You are a horrible person with a very narrow grasp on the human condition. Your obviously naive en extreme about love, life and children.
notanythingful 8 months ago
@notanythingful I am NOT afraid of stating the truth. I DO NOT nor will EVER believe women who WILLINGLY go to term only to let the body die & NOT harvest the organs for real VIABLE children are good or brave. They are selfish & looking for attention. If you aren't looking for admiration, you keep it to yourself.
The women who DO go to term knowing the fetus is a only a brainless shell but go through it specifically to donate the organs to someone who NEEDS them ARE brave & good. See Altruism.
etonks 8 months ago
@etonks You lack so much insight here. I guess you dont understand how difficult it is for a mother to let go of a child or bear the thought of some things. I do think it's a good idea to allow organs to be donated but the way you aproach this subject is reptilian in it's lack of emotion or consideration for those involved. To a mother a baby is loved from the time it is conceived regardless of its physical state and you are failing to acknowledge the human aspect of this in all its diversity.
notanythingful 8 months ago
@notanythingful If I was unfortunate enough to have this happen to my fetus, I would be smart enough to start with a healthy clean slate and try for a another child. It's rare enough that you have a good chance of it not happening again, though no guarantees. I could not bring a thing like this full term. Those who do to donate the organs are brave, strong and loving of others. Those who don't are selfish or ignorant.
Those who couldn't know, they aren't a part of this argum
