  • Oh God.. this is so true.. my life is changed

  • this video has turned me into a goddamn evangelist.

  • i should probably make a counter-argument in video form, because i think you're overlooking many of the positive qualities of the conventional toaster.

  • when i have a house i think i may not buy a toaster for this reason, you are smart peter. very smart.

  • It's 'et-set-a-ra' not 'eck-set-a-ra'.

This video was stupid. Toasters are specialty devises and therefore more efficient than a frying pan to the extent where the benefit from that efficiency over multiple uses is greater than the cost involved in buying and operating the toaster. Fucking hipsters.

  • Mind = blown

  • I agree with this. Toasters seem like a good idea in that you can cook something while focusing your attention on some other activity, but I've definitely had way more awkward and unpleasant toaster experiences than good ones. Not to mention they get dirty and are much more complicated to clean properly.

  • Energy efficiency:

Your toaster < the inferior toaster

  • I finally took the 49 seconds out of my day to watch this. I then couldn't stand another moment without trying to make my toast in a pan. Unfortunately, I think I'm going to stick with my toaster oven. The pan made me feel like I was eating grilled cheese but there was no cheese! No one wants that!

  • Ham and Cheese Sandwich

Toaster Oven: Dry unseasoned bread with cold cheese.

Skillet/Pan Toaster: Buttery garlic flavored bread with naturally melted cheese.

    Pan Toaster for the win.

How do you feel about microwaves?

  • @Spalove They're convenient. Not at all necessary, but it makes things easy. Like the oatmeal I just ate, microwaved. Sure, I could use the stove to boil water and do it that way, but that's more time/effort. My microwave is an old one I got free because my dad wasn't using it anymore. And even if not for getting one free, I think they are cheap enough and save enough time to make them worth having. I am also pro rice cooker for the same reasons.

  • @thepeteris Pro rice cooker? You lazy stitch. Rice is too easy to cook in a pan, granted one has a top to they'pot.

  • (misleading thumbnail)

  • Wow.

  • I've been blindly trusting the metal shell of my toaster with my food for so long and this way seems a lot more sensible, especially with the applying of other things as it cooks. I found the delivery of the opening line "Would you like to meet my toaster? This is my toaster" very funny too. [Also: Just had a listen to an episode of 'The Chapter Titles...' I enjoyed it. Nice quick editing.]

  • Well holy shit. You've just changed my world. And saved me a relatively significant sum of money (relative to my horrific student income, that is) for when I move out this fall.

  • PREACH!

  • I just made some toast in my frying pan. You're right, it is a better toaster. plain dry toast = bad. flavorful toast = good.

  • I've always liked my toaster but been opposed to waffle irons because I felt they were one-purpose, frivolous appliances. But really, how else can you make waffles? You can use a pan or an oven or a toaster to make toast, but waffles irons are necessary for waffles. I've been denying myself of waffles, only making pancakes...really I should trade my toaster in and get a waffle iron instead.

  • @alyiswriting Yeah, I don't have a waffle iron either, but I'll admit that that at least has a good use. Only one use, but at least it has that one good use. I only don't have one now because it seems like a luxury that I can't justify spending money on. Some day...some day.

  • The phrase "perfect toastiness" shall be forever burned into my brain.

  • You know what they say- all toasters toast toast.

  • @TheMinuteVlog if guns don't kill people, people kill people; does that mean that toasters don't toast toast, toast toasts toast?

  • @sadtoot oh how i've missed you.

  • Well argued. The only pro I can see for the pop-up toaster is the actual pop. I remember as a kid the surprise and delight every time my toast sprang up, browned to perfection -- like a jack-in-the-box without the frightening clown head. And where would Kellog's be without the pop-up toaster? Lie There And Sizzle Tarts would never have caught on.

  • @RatherBeSmiling lol. Great take.

  • I've never tried putting a crumpet in your style of toaster, but I fear that it may not work due to the thickness and structure of the crumpet. And I need my crumpets to be perfectly done otherwise I am no longer British.

  • @OnlyWorksBackwards Well at least try it. For all you know cooking the crumpets in a pan would work even better and you'll be opening yourself up to a whole new level of crumpety goodness that you didn't know existed. Worst case scenario is that it doesn't work and you have one meal of less than perfect crumpets and you've proven me wrong that the electric toaster does actually have a purpose.

Or you can continue letting your fear stand in the way of scientific progress.

  • I do the same.

  • I just realized that this means that I also have a toaster.

  • My stove(&oven) stopped working. So my toaster is my toaster.

  • @NessaR12 Loser.

  • @thepeteris Thanks. I truly appreciate the sentiment. -_-

  • @NessaR12 Question: why have we not mashed those appliance names together? Stove and oven. I never see a stove detached from an oven. Stoven.

  • @MigdalaVered I knew there was a name for it actually, but I couldn't remember so I asked my mom and she said you can call it a Range. And according to TheFreeDictionary[dot]com this is one of the definitions of range: "(Cookery) a large stove with burners and one or more ovens." So I guess we can call it a Range!

  • @NessaR12 no, no, no. it can't be called a range. range already means several other things. stoven all the way!

  • @MigdalaVered I kept saying stoven to my mom today while we were talking about our stoven and she didn't even think twice about it. She must already know that stoven is the new word for range. haha.

  • You are such a rebel.

  • The Peter has made a new video? Huzzah!

  • unrelated: are you high in this video?

  • @goingforthegold Nope.

  • toaster ovens, all the way

  • @saddasdas2 Why? They seem just as useless as toasters to me.

  • @thepeteris toaster ovens can toast up to 12 slices of bread at a time (both sides evenly toasted too), you can put whatever you want on them- cheese+sauce make mini pizzas, buttered toast, frozen pizza, pizza rolls, ikea meatballs etc.

stove/pan - you could probably only fit like 2 slices of bread in a pan (or 8 on a griddle) but you need to flip the bread and you almost always need to put some kind of oil

ovens take forever to heat up and are really inefficient when making most

  • @saddasdas2 sorry, re: stoves- you almost always need oil when toasting anything in a pan. toaster ovens- you don't NEED oil for anything, ikea meatballs get nice and crispy in the toaster oven w/o oil, ikea meatballs in the pan get soggy because most of the water (from defrosting) remains in the pan, and then you're forced to use oil. and ovens are inefficient when toasting single servings of meatballs, pizza rolls etc. hierarchy: toaster oven, stove, oven, microwave, toaster

  • @saddasdas2 I disagree with your hierarchy, I don't think there is a clear order, it just depends on what you're cooking and how you like it. I'm always gonna prefer eggs and bacon on a stove. But you have convinced me on toaster ovens. Unless you have a big family or something, I feel like most times that you'd use an oven it'd be much more efficient to use a toaster oven instead. Good call. Thank you for the knowledge.

  • Peter I am so attracted to you right now, mentally.

  • Well done sir.

    now get your hair cut.

  • @sayno2coolness Never!

  • you've opened my eyes. Its almost like they realized that if they called it "thing useful only for the reheating of pop tarts (which are an overpriced [if still delicious {dang it}] mockery of the proud tradition of breakfast pastries)" then no one would buy them. conspiracies abound.

  • *points to sun*

    My toaster.

  • @soldeglo Perfect.

  • You forgot to mention it's applications as a self defense weapon for cartoon characters.

  • -Dang, I was expecting a "Surprise! I got a haircut ;D". Oh well, you'll have to cut it sooner or later ;D

-I must say, I'm sad that there was no "Commenter of the Year" I was hoping to win this year! Although I did receive and "Honorable Mention" of sorts ;)

-Now to actually talk about the video...

    I agree...

    The End.

    *hug*

  • I am a relatively new subscriber, but i feel as all the awards (well i guess not what he awarded out but i'm sure you get the gist of what i meant) should go to TheRydog100 for his commitment and hard work. also i am convinced by this argument that skillets/pans are much better than a one purpose toaster.

  • My toaster allows me to cook poptarts. Lawyered.

  • @moonshoeskelly Have you tried heating them up in a frying pan? I never have, but I don't see why it wouldn't work. Try it, for science!

  • @thepeteris Well, if it's for science I guess I have to...Challenge accepted!

  • I love you and your toaster

  • That's a damn good point . . .

  • Fact: You blinked three times.

  • It's like...sorry man, rydog is distracting me with comments.

  • I'm gonna award RyDog my commenter of the year, if that's okay. Also I toast stuff in the oven. I also make brownies in there. And like, potatoes and stuff. And lots of stuff. My toaster's a good toaster too, HA.

  • I like your toaster.

  • Your toaster rocks. It could also be used as a weapon. Rapunzel in "Tangled" knows what's she's doing.

  • Warning: This comment (or these comments) is mostly unrelated to the video as a whole. Also their fucking long. Now, given that there was no "Commenter of the Year" award this year, I took the duty upon myself to calculate who has won… THE COMMENTS. First let's start with those who one the comments once, but never came back to reclaim the honor: ceetor1110, RayOfSunshine355, justinhabit, MrFictive, andyglovertalks, Justtubed, bonjourelisa, iLeaveYouWithHugs,

  • @TheRydog100 It made me smile that I was in your comment :) But I'm not sure I completely understand... Am I in the category of people who won "Last Video's Comments" once and never mentioned that they won? If so, that is both correct and incorrect. At first, I didn't notice, but later I came back and mentioned it :) (Also, I have one twice, the 1st time was on my old account)

Also, who is the winner that you have chosen? (And yes, it matters)

I wait eagerly for your response ;)

    *hug*

  • Comment removed

  • @iLeaveYouWithHugs I was just going by who was mentioned in the tags of thepeters videos in 2011. From what I saw your name was only mentioned once, though it is very probable that this is incorrect. And for the winner it was just who won the most, which was NowWeAreAllTom, (5 times) and I refrain from my opinions, because it's nothing official.

Also, because I think it is appropriate when responding to one of your comments:

    *hug*

  • @TheRydog100 No no, I believe you are correct :) Aha.

Well, I think Peter should pick a winner. Of course by me saying that he should, he will do the exact opposite... Unless he wants to trick me, and he's just waiting a bit... or since Peter is very consistent about being inconsistent I can't believe I actually thought he'd have an annual anything... I think I've just ruined the whole thing...

    I appreciate you your hug :}

    You've been rewarded with another.

    *HUG*

  • Now then, the third placers, or the bronzers, or the one less than second placers… I think you get the gist. These men & women had the beloved, 'winner of yesterdays videos" beseeched upon them twice.

This, is a much more selective group of commenters then previous, they worked hard, and deserved it.

  • Coralinehope. Winning the videos "Oh, the Places You'll Go," and "Strawberryfire". She also makes cool videos. Check her out. Taylahboone, on "YouTube" and "Chord Faces". She made a video making duck noises once. Check that out. Cateematthews on "Education" and, "Tom's Got a Turtle". Again, she makes cool videos. Lonesome Major with, "The Sturgis" and another video which I can't seem to find. Please accept my apologies. (Cont. But with good reason.)

  • Now assuming that both "Lauradidtheastro" and "Lauragonewhenanddonethatastro" are in fact just alter egos of the one and only, "LauraDoestheAstro"…

LauraDoestheAstro. Winning "It's Cool" and "Rich Dad, Poor Dad". Now if you haven't watched her videos, shame on you.

  • Becoming even more selective now, we come to the second placers, or "the silvers," or the one les-- we don't need to do this again do we? These two winners have, of course, won. But not only twice, not four times, but three times. Did I do that wrong? I don't know. But let's move on. RatherBeSmiling, with his/her cheerful user name and, what we can only assume as being a cheerful demeanor, she been the Commenter of "An Assortment of Sorts", "Internet Etiquette", and "Microlulz". (Cont.)

  • The other in this category is me but we can ignore that and go on to the FIRST PLACE WINNER!

  • Here we are, the pinnacle. This man has (let's assume "has" was in italics) won five times, and he deserved it too. Not only does he make hilarious remarks such as, "You spelt, 'Pffft' wrong" on the video entitled, "Pfft." or "I don't get it. What does it mean? It's hard to tell sometimes whether you're being serious or joking!"

  • on "VID00002" mocking those who make these sorts of comments on ThePeter's videos, but he can also get serious, with his great remarks on the polluted comment section of, "Eating Animals".

  • (Cont.) Also racking in the videos "Orange Juice" and "Preparation" the winner of the Comments for the year of 2011 is….

NowWeAreAllTom!!! Hurray! Hurrah! Oh, joy! etc... (Oh, and he makes wonderfully scrumptious videos, so you know, do it.)

  • @TheRydog100 hey, TheRydog100, I love you.

  • This is amazing. Why? Because it is honest.

  • I was going to ask about that on your Sturgis video. I mean you were all like, "Toast the bread" and I was all like, "Wait, do I have to exclusively toast it on a skillet!? Does it add to the flavour!? I NEED TO BE TOLD WHAT TO DO!?"...

Actually, as it turns out I didn't end up making it at all... it was all for naught if you will.

Now, I would like to ask permission to post a really long 5-part comment (meaning 5 full comments) on this video. I don't want to spam, so I'm asking.

  • @TheRydog100 With the Sturgis toasting the bread in the skillet was a flavor choice because you want to get the bread all oniony/greasy/salty from the residue left over from cooking the onions.

Yes, proceed. And no need to ask me that ever again.

  • My toaster broke a couple of months ago, and I actually realized you can still toast things with out a toaster. Crazy! Who would have thunk!

  • But can your toaster text while driving without the risk of causing an accident? No. Nobody's can. Don't text while driving, folks. It's extremely dangerous, and not even the coolest toaster should.

  • This is your best video ever.

  • OR WE COULD USE THE OVEN.
