i think you should go and read about the UEFI and BIOS , the EFI(apple) booted after 2 seconns and the other took about 20sec , before it begain to read the windows files... its not about the CPU , the start-up is all about HDD and BIOS-speed , read alittle BIOS and UEFI but its nice video... Well, HDD speed is like 80-90% of what matters for booting. RAM matters in the fact, if you have a lot of system processes and programs starting up they get loaded into RAM so I suppose RAM matters too for that.

All mac actually do have a bios. All computers must have one. Apple just hides it so the user can not tinker with it. I have heard of ways around it though so you can overclock lets say a Mac Pro.
If they made bios better the quad would of panned the mac's ass :) the mac doesnt have a "bios" as such u cant go into the settings and mess with oh well :)

I've got to admit, windows start up isn't as bad as everyone says. My HP PC running Windows vista Home Premium with 2.2Ghz processor and 2GB ram takes about 30-45 seconds to start up. 1 minute at the absolute maximum.

I agree, Windows starts up slow. My HP laptop with XP takes a while (but it only has 512 MB of RAM and a 1.8GHz single core), but pit Mac vs. Linux. Even a low power computer (my laptop for example) will boot Ubuntu or Sabayon Linux in no time.

lol, your boot up settings are not setup right, you don't have quick boot on. in most Bios there is an option for fast boot. The alienwere I'm using boots faster then that. of course I only have 28 processes running, and XP pro.
Vista is also slow because it's a resource hog.
did you defragment the hard drives and delete all the temp files on the pc before this video, and how many things are in your system tray, how many running processes do you have on boot up? 80?

your shouting at it that its got quad cores. im assuming you have Vista 32 bit which practicaly invalidates 50% of your Clock cycles an 4.5gb of you ram. this comes about because 64 bit processors require a 64bit system to address the avaliable clock cycles. and the extra ram. nice PC + Mac either way.

its the time to windows actually starting that is letting the desktop down. The desktop PC could have all sorts of crap attached to the board and the bios needs to work this out. The Macbook knows what's in the hardware. Most notebooks get to actually booting the PC quicker than a desktop.

Windows is a bit takes faster hardware to boot up fast, It is a very powerful OS. That is 1 hell of a bios though, I have a single core intel celeron prossesor wit 1 gig ram and my computer could boot about as fast as that macbook, but only $600 excluding microsoft office 2007 home and student i think it's called. I'm very proud of it because when my mom is using her extreamly more expensive macbook my dell is always the faster, more comfortable, and more reliable one.
i dont consider it being faster os because it can boot faster its what it can do inside and how it runs. regardless who cares i never need to wait i just walk out of the room and do somthing and come back and BAm its there

If you are wanting to test the os, then you would need for both to have the same hardware.
Opposed to what you had, which was one running win using different hardware than the one running mac. This means the test is flawed on both counts.

I was under the impression that the amount of RAM wasn't affecting boot up speed at any real noticeable level.
When I went from 2 to 4G's (800Mhz FBS) of RAM in my laptop, boot up was pretty much the same, slightly faster after pressing the login button though.
If I'm not mistaken, the more RAM you have, the longer it takes because the BIOS checks the RAM each time you boot up.
I know HDD's play the biggest role in boot times.

lol, your boot up settings are not setup right, you don't have quick boot on. in most Bios there is an option for fast boot. The alienwere I'm using boots faster then that. of course I only have 28 processes running, and XP pro.
Vista is also slow because it's a resource hog.
did you defragment the hard drives and delete all the temp files on the pc before this video, and how many things are in your system tray, how many running processes do you have on boot up? 80?

your shouting at it that its got quad cores. im assuming you have Vista 32 bit which practicaly invalidates 50% of your Clock cycles an 4.5gb of you ram. this comes about because 64 bit processors require a 64bit system to address the avaliable clock cycles. and the extra ram. nice PC + Mac either way.

Not "like Macs" but Use It as a computer, a PC is something that takes up peoples time. Building, upgrading etc. all that is a waste of time. Why must I do something like that if I need to do work. I just Need a good solid, quiet Computer with a good OS which in my experience is a Mac.

uh right i looked into that for like 5 minutes i dont think im faster i think im just naturaly gifte when it coems to computers. whereas im hopeless when it comes to other things secondly a good PC can boot up in around 40seconds and wont need upgrading or extra building for several years all you need to do is look after it.

its the time to windows actually starting that is letting the desktop down. The desktop PC could have all sorts of crap attached to the board and the bios needs to work this out. The Macbook knows what's in the hardware. Most notebooks get to actually booting the PC quicker than a desktop.

I agree, ubuntu does run faster. Wayyy faster. But I can play games on my Ubuntu without spending alot of time to get it to work. I just wanna get stuff done quick so I use Vista cuz it can do everything I need it to and I have had no problems with it. But i do agree Linux is much faster, but for me its not as practical.

Windows is a bit takes faster hardware to boot up fast, It is a very powerful OS. That is 1 hell of a bios though, I have a single core intel celeron prossesor wit 1 gig ram and my computer could boot about as fast as that macbook, but only $600 excluding microsoft office 2007 home and student i think it's called. I'm very proud of it because when my mom is using her extreamly more expensive macbook my dell is always the faster, more comfortable, and more reliable one.

meh? I just felt like doing it. Bootup time is not everything. As I stated they were both very similar in bootup. It I disabled the pata driver it would probably boot faster. I might tweak windows (which I cannot do with the mac) and bot again.
