  • Thank you, Maria. You're right that 'The Journey' speaks to us all, women and men. Thank you for raising all our awareness through your works, which, like the journey, is as important for men as for the women you speak to and for.

  • Thank You Maria! How true, in my case, I should save the only life I can save! so many times I am in anguish because I cannot ...help others as I would like...I think that I can help me...then I will eventually help others. Love you Maria, God Bless you ..

  • MY FAVORITE POEM IS CALLED "FEARLESS" :)

  • After watching Oprahs poetry show and then seeing the copy of Mary Olivers "Journey" poem in the O magazine, I am now the proud owner of SIX Mary Oliver books. And the beautiful printing of "Journey" in "O" is in a frame in my hallway.

Thanks to you all, Maria, Oprah and Mary. Mary is speaking at our local Wells Fargo Center for the arts in my home town and I am saving up to go !!

  • Maria,

What a wonderful poem to help you as you are beginning your new journey. I ike Mary Oliver as well and my favorite poem is When Death Comes. It reminds of my dear friend Dr. James case who truly a bride to amazement-jcb

  • Hi Maria, I have many favorites but two that continue to come to the forefront are:

"I wandered Lonely As a Cloud" otherwise known as "Daffodils" by William Wordsworth and "The Lake Isle of Innisfree" by William Butler Yeats. I've posted the latter below.

  • THE LAKE ISLE OF INNISFREE

    By William Butler Yeats

I will arise and go now, and go to Innisfree,

    And a small cabin build there, of clay and wattles made;

Nine bean rows will I have there, a hive for the honeybee,

And live alone in the bee-loud glade.

  • Continued:

And I shall have some peace there, for peace comes dropping slow,

    Dropping from the veils of the morning to where the cricket sings;

There midnight's all a-glimmer, and noon a purple glow,

And evening full of the linnet's wings.

I will arise and go now, for always night and day

    I hear lake water lapping with low sounds by the shore;

While I stand on the roadway, or on the pavements gray,

I hear it in the deep heart's core.

  • Maria, just want you to know that you are an inspiration to many of us women going through a divorce or separation just as you have. I reading your favorite poem, it brings words of inspiration that leads me to believe it will all workout just fine. I hope to one day meet someone like you embrace into my life as a mentor and a friend. God Bless you and always keep your faith.

  • Your Heart will be my Shelter (Part 2)

Finally, this day has arrived when we say I do

But the best part is that we are now a team of two.

From this day forward, we shall not walk alone

Your heart will be my shelter, my arms will be your home.

  • "Your Heart will be my Shelter" Part 2

Finally, this day has arrived when we say I do

But the best part is that we are now a team of two.

From this day forward, we shall not walk alone

Your heart will be my shelter, my arms will be your home

  • I wrote this poem for my wedding day:

Your Heart will be my Shelter (Part 1)

I’ve looked high and I’ve looked low to find a partner true

The world can be unforgiving and often make you blue.

Then one day, I met a person who immediately understands

who I am, how I think and wants to be my man.

Although he did not admit it, we knew right away,

this love we would declare on a very special day.

  • Hi Maria,

My favorite poem is, 'Oh, the Places You'll Go' by Dr. Seuss.

    Your Friend,

    Rick

  • Here is the last part:

So little cause for carolings Of such ecstatic sound

Was written on terrestrial things Afar or nigh around,

That I could think there trembled through His happy good-night air

Some blessed Hope, whereof he knew And I was unaware.

    "Darkling Thrush" by Thomas Hardy

A poem that for me addresses the hope within all darkness.

  • This will need three parts, here is part two:

The ancient pulse of germ and birth Was shrunken hard and dry,

And every spirit upon earth Seemed fervourless as I.

At once a voice arose among The bleak twigs overhead

    In a full-hearted evensong Of joy illimited;

An aged thrush, frail, gaunt, and small, In blast-beruffled plume,

Had chosen thus to fling his soul

     Upon the growing gloom.

  • My favorite poem in 2 parts from space limitation:

I leant upon a coppice gate When Frost was spectre-gray,

And Winter's dregs made desolate The weakening eye of day.

The tangled bine-stems scored the sky Like strings of broken lyres,

And all mankind that haunted nigh Had sought their household fires.

The land's sharp features seemed to be The Century's corpse outleant,

His crypt the cloudy canopy, The wind his death-lament.

  • (written for a beer-swillin', coke-snortin' speed metal punk guitar player) 1996 copywrite M.E. Steiner Bludgeon Me He likes his girls Flesh on bones Silicone tits Hearts made of stone Just like the ones In the magazines Who live on alcohol, powders and nicotine No dragon slaying No demands Infrequent companionship No holding hands It fits his fantasy Of not getting too close Thereby preventing Love overdose. I wrote this poem when I was in love with a douchebag. It was a long time ago.
  • Hi Maria, I like that book, but I want to wish you good luck in your journey.

  • Sorry to hear about your separation. When Arnie referred to your being a Democrat as marrying you "in sickness & in health", that was pretty insensitive.

  • Thanks! I was first published at 15 when my grandfather submitted a poem I had written for my grandmother. She had been a huge influence in my childhood and read Frost, Shakespeare, Dickens (etc) to us with her thick Scottish accent. It's funny but whenever I heard certain poems it's her voice that echoes in my head.

  • @ali31nana

Give me a break! Maria Shriver is a complete bull shit artist. I remember when she worked for NBC she was asked by an interviewer if her Kennedy backgound got her the job. No, she said, I studied journalism at Georgetown. LIE! I graduated from Georgetown in 1979 (she was in one of my classes) and there was no such thing as a journalism program at Georgetown when her fat ass was there.

  • @sgsflorida Give Me a break! I was talking about my grandmother. Your reading comprehension is low considering you graduated from Georgetown.

  • @sgsflorida Yes, she is a liar who cares more about fame than truth.

  • i love poetry and my most favorite poetry to write are lyrics to songs. i have written them since i was nine and i couldn't stop after my first one. poetry is amazing. :)

  • This is great, thanks!

  • Thank you for sharing that poem Maria :-) I will try and post one tomorrow.

  • This is a poem for women- What Dreams They Are What Dreams they are a dreamer longs to dream, the Universe unveiled before one's eyes!-: Magnificent that place of self-esteem where Women work their worth to realize! The "Sorry" state we need to comprehend Forgiveness found so fitting and so apt: no travesty said "thanks" to foe or friend immersed in Love and disengaged, untrapped! Unchanged the truth that yet will set us free Togetherness not option, but a must: our purpose...
  • Thanks for sharing this great poem. What a great idea.

  • Thank you for doing this! My daughter will be reading and entering her poetry in our local library and school contests. She has written over 100 poems and is just 16. I can't wait for her to share here too : )

  • nice...love it! thanks maria for sharing, will sure check out other works of Mary Oliver!

  • I love The Journey too. One of my favorites!

  • Very nice reading! Love the poem!
