They do. The regulation is set that the max a field of opium can be is .24 of an acre. They US buys the opium at 8$ a KG for the paste. That is used for makeing medicine. The supliers must sell at least 4.5kg a year to have the contract. What the US doesn't buy is what gets put into the drug traphicing.

I have walked through these fields many times. Poppy fields, and also marijuana fields as far as the eye can see in some places. Never saw wheat or corn. That seems like the best solution - sell the opium (from the unripe poppy pods) to the international pharmaceutical companies for mass produced narcotics. Then they can sell the seeds (for eating and it's oil) and even the dried husks (dried flower market).

First, there is no puppet enemy really fighting the US anymore: all the activities which are reported as "traits" are either fantasies or national movements (not at all concerned with fighting the US). Secondly, high oil prices were caused by instability in 2003, but recently it only is a consequence of financial markets (the crisis prooved it quite well).

They do. The regulation is set that the max a field of opium can be is .24 of an acre. They US buys the opium at 8$ a KG for the paste. That is used for makeing medicine. The supliers must sell at least 4.5kg a year to have the contract. What the US doesn't buy is what gets put into the drug traphicing.

I have walked through these fields many times. Poppy fields, and also marijuana fields as far as the eye can see in some places. Never saw wheat or corn. The government is right to stay out of it however - the people are ecstatic that they can grow this stuff now that the taliban is reduced, we cannot win hearts and minds if we destroy their cash cow.

Revolution runs on the ideological ground. Fight is not always fought on bettle field. It is fought in inside first. Indian revolution led by Mahatma Gandhi is one example where people fought without bloodshed. People fought for their rights, values and justice by taking the path of non-violence. And that is one of a kind revolution.

why would the US do anything about it. Its not in they're jurisdiction. There is 24 countrys involved with the afghanistan affair. it would be up to the Afghan Government to decide what to do with it.
Personaly if i werent Canadian and was a political leader in Afghanistan i would sell the poppy seeds to major pharmaciutical companies. I think it would be the country's best bet, but it would only work if opium growing was regulated and protected by the government.(armed guards wouldnt hurt).

That seems like the best solution - sell the opium (from the unripe poppy pods) to the international pharmaceutical companies for mass produced narcotics. Then they can sell the seeds (for eating and it's oil) and even the dried husks (dried flower market).

Spraying is not viable for two reasons:
1. Aircraft will be shot down.
2. Farmers and their families rely on these crops to feed themselves. Destroying their only source of income would cause them to join the extremists and build anti-american feelings in their communities.
