Possibly. I get a lot of people predicting really bad times ahead for America. That's anyone's guess, but...we have overcome adversity in the past. I'd like to think we have some of the best economists money can hire/buy. I don't know how much I buy into this doom and gloom mentality that so many CANADIANS especially subscribe to, among others.
We'll see how it all pans out, I just don't think we're going down that easy like a cheap crack-whore.

@Illumirage im not an anti conservative. our president, Felipe Calderon is from el PAN, the mexican version of a conservative party and hes one of my favorite presidents and Calderon even has Lazaro Cardenas support. so hey, im not anticonservative. USA is not hurting relations with only México. not all of the illegals here are Mexican. and only 11million of those hispanics are illegals. and how many total hispanics are we? 50.5 million. we're still strong in american politics...

@pikamexel things from the USA to fight our drug war. we're so well organized thats why we killed 12 narcos at the expense of 1 of our mexican marines...but USA would rather fight its other wars. so our merida iniciative pays us to prevent the violence from spreading to the USA, but USA does little to prevent weapons and drug money to spill over to the cartels. so much that we've had to make carrying too much money across the border illegal, cutting some of the cartels profit.

Possibly. I still maintain that Mexico, militarily is pretty inept. Not that they can't be someday, but currently they are. If they can't even root out and make an example of these blood-thirsty, but uncoordinated rag-tag drug cartels then what chance would they have against fighting battle-hardened warriors, with experience, technology, logistics, air superiority, funding, factories, science, innovative weaponry, ingenuous strategy, etc?

Do you have idea of how hard is to fight an unconventional war? Just look at Irak, Afghan there are guerrillas everywhere, and you can´t handle it, you lost Vietnam because a guerrilla.
The real war would be guerrilla and unconventional war, could you handle a 112 mllns country that is 20 times bigger than Iraq in a guerrilla?

It's probably tough, but the people who employ it usually have no other choice. I still maintain that we didn't 'lose' in Vietnam, if we wanted to throw a ton more money at it, we'd have won. If we wanted to level entire cities and key opposition areas, we could have, we had the means. But yeah, we 'lost'. No, it became a lost cause.
Guerillas are the epitome of cowardice nowadays. Hiding amongst civilians, dressing like them, so as to use them as collateral damage.

The war was hard for both sides because they were getting shot, and was hard for the USA because there were battles where they lost many man, or even lost the complete battle.

@pikamexel also, what other benefits besides medicaid are there? méxico has public schools too, scholarships for the gifted, insurance as well, special benefits for the ones that join the army. the only thing i would come to USA for is space exploration(since it has a space program), but since technology hasnt gone that far yet...well.(then again USA, Russia, and some other countries are researching the use of laser to produce large amounts of energy, cryogenics, etc.)

Your military is doing more than the U.S.'s to stop the cartels? Lets just say if the cartels were operating, and have were firmly rooted in America like they are Mexico, they'd have been snuffed out by now. Mexico has been entirely inept when it comes to uprooting those organizations. Like Pakistan and Osama.
I wouldn't classify Mexico as an emerging world power, sorry. Brazil maybe, China and India definitely, but not Mexico. But who knows, maybe someday...

@Illumirage besides, i wouldnt say we're thatbad. 30,000 mexicans were drafted from México to serve under the American banner in WWII and God knows how many we lost in that war...so believe it or not we are not that bad. i wouldve liked those 30000 mexican soldiers to take back the land James K. Polk so cowardly took from us(Mexican-American War, only war we've lost so far...) during WWI. so we've even helped you even when some of us still bear a grudge...

@pikamexel we compete with Brazil, we're the only ones after USA to compete with Brazil. im sorry for canada and although Canada is industialized it isnt at all that large where their army is concerned or their population. in manpower, USA, Brazil, and México are the dominating powers in this continent. believe it or not...the only reason USA is on top of things is because its more industrial and it hasnt had nukes forbidden like México has. we had to sign a treaty with USA , no nukes for us.
