About the not having money thing...when you're both equally poor it's not necessarily bad, you make due. I remember when my girlfriend and I went on our first date we went to a sushi place and shared one roll...seriously. But they gave us free wine after, which was hilarious because we both DEFINITELY looked our ages (18).
Bringing "flowers" on a first date, in my opinion just lacks subtlety. However, a single, solitary flower is a lovely gesture, is less oppressive, and still leaves the impression you took the time to go out and choose a particular flower, which to a femme translates to thoughtful, and romantic. Two big pluses.
I'm a flower-loving femme, my current gf gets me flowers almost every week and each and every time I get really happy and shower her with kisses. Actually, one of the reasons I broke up with my ex was her lack of romantic details like these... I could never be a girl who refused to get me flowers.
Gifts are really sweet but I wouldnt suggest giving flowers or any gift on the first date. There may not be a second date and the person giving the gift just waisted some money. Personally, I think flowers on a first or even second date might be awkward, unless your date is coming to your house for dinner, cuz then it's kinda like they are for the house too :)
As far as gifts go, I think to take someone you like to a place that is special, or to a place where there is an nice view, and give them some sweet kisses to remember, that is far better than any flowers! To me anyway..

About the not having money thing...when you're both equally poor it's not necessarily bad, you make due. I remember when my girlfriend and I went on our first date we went to a sushi place and shared one roll...seriously. But they gave us free wine after, which was hilarious because we both DEFINITELY looked our ages (18).

Bringing "flowers" on a first date, in my opinion just lacks subtlety. However, a single, solitary flower is a lovely gesture, is less oppressive, and still leaves the impression you took the time to go out and choose a particular flower, which to a femme translates to thoughtful, and romantic. Two big pluses.

I'm a flower-loving femme, my current gf gets me flowers almost every week and each and every time I get really happy and shower her with kisses. Actually, one of the reasons I broke up with my ex was her lack of romantic details like these... I could never be a girl who refused to get me flowers.

Gifts are really sweet but I wouldnt suggest giving flowers or any gift on the first date. There may not be a second date and the person giving the gift just waisted some money. Neways after a while if my girl wanted to give me a gift I would say forget the flowers, lets go to the local sex shop and help me pick out a gift we would both enjoy.

I like flowers I guess I'm kinda old fashion in THAT way.. But I met my honey on myspace *blush* The 24th we will be together 2 years together. I've lived learned and found the greatest love of my life... I think love can happen anywhere. It's about being in the right place at the right time. And stop LOOKING FOR LOVE.. When the time is right she will fall in your lap lol take that as you want :)

I loveee flowers, but not on a first date. Although if I did get flowers on a first date, it would probably be cute in a somewhat awkward way. I never know what to say when people give me things. Cause I either underact or overact, and I get nervous about making other people feel uncomfortable. Haha. Anyway.. Yeah. I personally like flowers. They just make me happy.

Oh man! No flowers? My ex didn't believe in flowers so for the 6 and a half years we were together I got them maybe 4 times. Bummer. My current gf gets them for me a lot and I know it seems stupid and maybe it's me being a dumb girl, but they make me SO happy.
I loved all these tips. If I find myself on another first date I will definitely heed this advice.

Uh... So, I met my girlfriend on Myspace... yeah that's right, and not only did we talk about our exes on our first date... hers was there. I mean, not hanging out with us or anything, but she happened to go to the same bar as we did that night. So, since hers was there it just got us on the topic of exes. But it was a very successful date, and we are very happy together now. We look back at that first date, and we laugh.
