You can forget about the 45 degree angle. For the wheel to spin and be useful in riding, you would have to cut all the spokes out. You needed less academic structure and more thought-through logic. Good job, though.
my only concer for marketing purposes is that the lock deterent would become problematic with fitment because not every bike is the same. secondly i highly suggest the removal of an invisible ink and instead a replacement with an unbelievalble odor to be released.....
@filiopop101 Or actually even better than odor add some pepper spray inside it. Because if someone cut it it would get all over their hands. Or even worse if it was to be cut by a power tool they would get pepper spray sprayed all over them.
i like that id can you get them from anywhere because i would get one because i have a £670 bike and the chain is heavy no joke and i have to put it in my bag and it take for ever to lock up ((get back))
Well for a 500$ bike nobody give a shit about stoling it. But if you have a 5000$ MTB, well everything can be recycled, then you shall not put it in the streets...
@Rhinoch8 Nobody cares about a $500 bike? What are you, some snotty rich kid? lol. If I could afford a $500 bike, damn straight I would care if someone stole it.
@Rhinoch8... I have a $5,000 road bike and you are right. I simply never let it out of my sight. For other rides, like to the store I take my $300 hybrid, that no one wants. LOL.
College students should do that. Have a POS for school and keep the expensive road bike for weekends and evening rides.
Location is the primary concern. If the thief can throw your bike into a truck, your cuff will be useless. The value of the bicycle is in its components. Front wheels are not normally a target. In the seventies, the story is that thieves would lift whole bike racks with bikes from UCSB and sell the bikes down in LA. Don't know if it was an urban legend.
I use a 6 ft cable and lock combo and try to park away from cars. The cable is convenient and light unlike Citadel locks.
A thorough discussion for sure. Only missed one point IMHO. Proactive use of a free internet based BikeRegistry service and appropriate TAGGING of the bike back to the registry. This is the concept now used by law enforcement in Tel Aviv, Israel. The Israelis reviewed ALL Options before making their decision....
Yep it is a good idea. As a cyclist its always worrying where you leave your bike. I have 3 bikes. Each for its purpose and locale. Annoying is the weight of protection you need to carry and even then... there are some bas tards. Still, a good idea.
One thing I noticed is with one of your product advantages where you say that the key stays in while the deterrent is not being used, therefore you don't have to fumble for keys. The problem here is that it contradicts with another selling point. When you mentioned the storage ability of swinging the lock up to lock it to the frame, wouldn't this allow the key to be removed since it would now be in the 'locked' position?
Another option, high pressure acid / some super foul smelling and sticky stuff that also permeates through clothing (some smells/chemicals do this very quickly) so even if the thief replace clothes it won't help.
best lock is a hollow u-lock with a high tension wire inside, once cut, the tension is released and a pack of C4 explosive goes off. then a big sticker on there to say that there's a bomb inside.
i kinda like the idea. however, if there is a uv stain on the body, will users defect it everytime they use it?? how durable is it again? can it be cut off?
I believe this is a good idea in the fact that you made it a part of the bike.. otherwise the idea would be rubbish due to having another thing to carry. The tight fight would make it very very hard to get off, and impossible to actually ride the bike. If it looks good on the bike and works like you said, I think it would be a great deterrent. I don't know the stats on bike thefts, but looking those up and seeing what the % is for riding off as opposed to driving off would be good in your video.
Good Idea, but how do you stop then from cutting the post it is locked to. And then pick up the bicycle up and off they go in the VAN like polskamafia said. I have seen entire racks cut into pieces and bikes are gone..
Hi, the Bike Cuff is not a lock replacement, and is designed to be used with an existing lock, such as a U-lock. The U-Lock would secure the bike to a rigid post, and the Bike Cuff would act as the theft deterrent.
Nice idea! Cyclists in the UK can request cycle parking stands to be installed by using ParkThatBike.info
You can also report defective or substandard cycle parking (e.g. "Wheel-benders").
We collate all the comments and suggestions and submit reports to the relevant local council. Check it out --- ParkThatBike.info

If you can't afford one just get a NEW condom and put it on your lock or the front wheel hub and NO ONE will go near it
claitface 2 years ago 10
@claitface Or fill the tip of said condom with water and icing sugar. Ew.

Prevents steering?
A better selling point is the fact that it prevents the front tire from even turning
