one time i came up to the house and it was pitch black went to touch the doorknob and a giant praying mantis was on it lmao freaked me out so i went in and turned on the poorch light and was shocked at how BIG this fellow was. so i had a bug container thing and caught him and put him in it for a bit,, be VERY CAREFUL how you hold one of these. those thingies in their mouths hurt. he wasnt too happy but i put some leaves and water and watched him drink the water it was neat. then released him :)
@Filmaker25 well, mantises always lay them upside to begin with-- on a stick or something. if you broke the stick off, place the stick upside down in the jug.
if you... peeled the egg sac off by itself *winces* then... the best i can say is make a little ledge in your jug, so when they hatch, they can at least crawl under the ledge and learn to climb upside down.
i used to have ickle praying mantises :) i'm sure you can google more detailed care for the little ones. best of luck!
I had brought one inside when I was younger and my grandma flipped. Then she saw it catch a spider. Suddenly she wasn't so bothered by it's presence. xD
@MrAaronreina we and our minds develop the deadliest weapons, but we ourselfs are not deadly. if a human with no weapons was put in an arena with a tiger, the tiger would win hands down. no human would stand a chance against a tiger without weapons, not even chuck norris xD
@mkocja5a Everything you said sounded good up until the "..not even Chuck Norris." part. Now everything you say is suspect and I'm not sure I can believe you anymore....lol
@MrAaronreina i assume you were joking XD because i'm pretty sure chuck norris woulodn't be able to beat a tiger, bear, lion, jaguar, gorilla, hippo, rhino or elephant ...even though he doesn't sleep, he wakes :P
tiger paw swipe: 12x more powerful then adult man's punch (they can kill adult brown bears btw)
gorilla: 10x stronger then adult man
hippo: responsible for many human deaths
jaguar: top of south american foodchain
chuck could beat allmost any human, but a tiger would beat him :P
It's funny. I have one of these in a tank in my room. One night is gonna escape and I'll suddenly be relieved of morning wood. With side effects. Shit.
In the Philippines, we had something called a "bukid" beyond the backyard walls of our house, and when I was about 5 years old, I used to go there several times during the day and find praying mantis, dragon flies, and other insects to catch and observe. It was hard to though because there were rumors of snakes living there because the grass was tall as the 5 year old me. Nevertheless, I love praying mantis and dragonflies.
1) There are size restrictions for insects since they don't have lungs.
2) It would be crushed under its own weight since strength is proportional to the cross-section of an object (say if you made it 100 times bigger, the limbs would be able to hold approximately 10,000 times more weight), and magnification of the animal would occur in three dimensions (which would increase the weight of said insect by a factor of 1,000,000).
@z4ang3tsu Nope, i read lots of Manga but haven't heard of Baki, i do read: Fairy tail, DB,DBZ, Bleach, One Piece, Full metal alchemist, Death Note, Code Geass, Elfen Lied, Naruto/Ship... What's happening in Baki? Supernatural?
@BasshuterZ Well it's actually Grappler Baki, and it's one of the best manga about martial arts.I told you that before 'cause there is a part in the manga where the protagonist thinks about a giantz sized mantis as the most powerful insect even above such animals as the african elephant.
@JordanN5253 ; start eating the bugs for good health - it's an old age remedy for whatever ails you. mantis are especially delicious, especially their faces
if thar realy is a fine for killing them then i owe alot of money. thay maybe fast but thar arent faster than a mower conditioner.. didnt know thay were in maine
If the Praying Mantis was so amazing why is it endangered and a 50$ fine if you kill it or keep it as a pet?! I vote that it is NOT amazing and it goes right up there with panda's.
he says that the mantis strikes at 1/20th of a second claiming that its twice as fast as the human eye even though the human eye can easily see fastermoving objects
in CA if you go to target or walmarts plant section, they sell the eggs in the summer, they hatch and actruly protect your veggies or fruits in your garden, there fucking fantastic little fuckers.
We raise these buggers. We once hatched a queen, that laid an egg sack on our grape bush. When they hatch the swarm there cage, and many didnt survive this year because of some minor flooding that happened. :(
