I don't understand what you are asking. And by messing up, are you asking if I burnt out in the beginning? I didn't burn out, I just did that little stationary boost thing.
I purposely fall behind in the beginning of races or whenever the group is close together. I usually find a way to catch up, so I'm not too worried. So far, the CPU's have beaten me up more than WiFi has.
You can't do that mini-turbo trick with bikes? (Also, did you mess up at the beginning of Mario Circuit 3?)
I never like to purposely fall behind to get Item Boxes at the beginning, since it means I have to do some catching up. And catching up is bad for me, since the longer I take trying to catch up, the harder it becomes as the racers spread themselves out after a race. It also means I have to deal with the "piranha fish" bringing up the rear who can't wait to tear me a new one every chance.
The ssmt is slower than accelerating
