No we didn't hate it, this was more club and alternative style. Fewer stations playing it. Don't forget the how vast our land mass is here and just how many radio stations there are. A market like LA or NYC probably has 75+ stations while BBC UK has a total of 50 in 2010. NYC has 44 FM stations and 28 AM. In the UK you can virtually listen to one radio station in any part of the country. At about 60 miles from a station you are already in another radio market.

People in the U.S. hated this song because they thought it was actually about shopping! Duh....listen to the lyrics - it's about the British government's practices at the time. Wonderful song.

@evolutiongirl321 Well, it sounds like a pretty catchy dance song, but when one actually choses to listen to the lyrics, it kind of becomes obvious: "You're buying and selling your history How you go about it is no mystery You check it with the City then you change the law Are you looking forward now you want some more" and "Our gain is your loss, that's the price you pay I heard it in the House of Commons, everything's for sale" The deadpan delivery used to great effect.
