But the question of WHO, meaning Jacob or Jacob's Enemy, they support isn't clear. when jacob says "they're coming" that could (most likely) mean alana and the others, to confront the locke doppelganger. or it could mean...anyone else. And since ALEX aka the smoke monster told ben not to harm locke, did iot know that locke was actually Jacob's enemy? it didn't ever get to "scan" him....

So I have a theory on your government question...Maybe it is a THEOCRACY. The pre-king form of government the Israelites had before they annointed their first King in Saul. The system of government was set up with a Diety as the head (Jacob), Judge as the leader (Ben, Charles, Locke?) the judge governed during specific times for specific and different reasons...then there is the priest (Richard Alpert) who serves as a leason between the diety and the people and as a counselor to the judge.

Well thats my theory on smokey(the smoke monster) :
Smokey is something natural, created by whatever energy the island contained, but running wild through it. The ancient islanders (possibly Egyptian coloners) harnessed it and created vents for him. And then they brought their own gods to talk and confront the monster.
The Leadership of the "Others / Hostiles" is like a that of a Ship at sea, such as the Black Rock. Captain and first mate at sea, are still Captain and first mate dragged two miles inland.
I don't have too keen of a memory on the subject but why do we all assume that Ben was with Dharma during the purge? All I remember was that he was with his dad (who he hated)? My memory is hazy as to wether or not he was in a Dharma jumpsuit but even if he was maybe it was a disguise??? Just wanted to point out the possiblility maybe he never reentered the DI and the purge was, in fact, an "outside job."
Ben was indeed working with his father in 1992 on the day of the purge. He and his dad had to make a delivery to the Pearl Station and then were going to drink some beers and have some "father/son" time because it was Ben's birthday. He was living in the barracks and had a Dharma jumpsuit on. He was a "work man" just like his dad.
It seems to me that he must've been some sort of double agent at the time that he took Alex, because I doubt he could be off doing things with the Others for most of his life and then come back and no one would ask questions. The Dharma Initiates are very paranoid about the hostiles, as we have seen. I'm sure one of their first thoughts would be that he was "compromised".
the smoke monster is actually the god anubis' essence. trapped in the form of black smoke since the statue was destroyed or went missing.
Illana and Ceaser are part of a cult or perhaps patrons of Charles Widmore ,that's why Illana brought Sayid back to the island after he refused to go back with Jack and the others.

I highly doubt that there is a scientific explanation for an Egyptian god's "essence".
I personally think that the answer to what the monster is will be a lot less of a cop-out than that, i.e. something that is not in the realm of fantasy and is more science fiction oriented.
I think Ben didnt kill Penny and Danielle is because he saw that they had children, meaning he didnt want the kid to grow up without a mother like he did. Also what lies in the shadow prob came from Faradays notes that the survivors found with Lapidas in those notes too. This is why they didnt trust Frank.....The government is like a company, president, then vp, then 1st manager, 2nd manager, then assistant manager etc, (Armylike as well)

Definately a monarchy. People always used to believe that the kings and queens were picked by God and that no-one should mess with it and to me that sounds exactly like the others. If Jacob is God then that would make Ben, Widmore and Locke and kings of the island, the people that are chosen by the all powerful to rule over a group. But I don't see were that puts Richard. Kings and Queens are chosen by blood so maybe Richard is more an adviser, sent to keep a watch and keep the kings in check

the donkey wheel/well lies in the shadow of the statue. remember the islanders saw the statue from behind whilst standing next to where the well was/is, although shadows can be at any angle, in a metaphorical sense, shadows are usually behind the subject.

Perhaps because the smoke monster is "chained" down by something. When we hear the monster sometimes, there is a mechanical chain sound that happens. Perhaps the monster can only go so far because of some enchantment. I don't know.

Dharma tried to remain within their fences to stay away from the Others and the smoke monster. Danielle created a boundary for herself that included not going into the "dark territory". Maybe due to this fact, neither group knew of the other's existence. Very possible. Only the Others had complete and total free range of the island.

Does the Island exist to help the dead transition to the afterlife? Are our Losties really dead and have they been brought to the Island to help with their transition???
They changed Rousseau's backstory again, didn't they? Didn't she tell Sayid that she followed a column of black smoke inland and that's when the Others took the baby? We see here that they just snatch Alex off the beach. She also originally claimed that she had never seen an Other, but I guess that one can be chalked up to her being afraid to reveal too much, given Ben's warning.
She said the column of smoke appeared and that night they came for Alex. So that's one correct thing. There is a problem with her seeing Ben because she said she doesn't see them but "hears" them in the form of the whispers (her talking in season 1). So, it's up to interpretation of her words in season 1 as to whether or not she actually saw an Other that night. But it's now canon that she did.
Didn't Widmore say previously that Ben had tricked him to leave the island (maybe to Locke in the hospital?). Didn't look like he tricked him, he kicked him off?
Hey, when Danielle caught "Henry Gale" in the woods, she didn't say anything to the flight 815 people about him being the KIDNAPPER of Baby Alex. What the heck? There MUST be an explanation. She's not THAT crazy.
This is a very good point. Perhaps they want us to believe that after 16 years, and the fact that it was dark, that Danielle couldn't remember what he looked like. However, she was absolutely certain "Henry Gale" was an Other; how did she know? Perhaps this will be answered soon when we finally have a Henry Gale episode.

I think it was the guy (I forgot his name) from Lost Via Domus because there's a level where your in the Flame Station, and in that level there's a computer you can use that has the option of making a food drop. But that's can only be true if Via Domus' story line is relevant to Lost's story line.
The way Richard looked at Ben after he confronted Charles was amost like him saying "theres our next leader" - I think maybe Ben taking baby alex was purely a plan to publically humiliate Charles and undermine his leadership. Im not sure the Risk game alone is enough to debunk the alternative reality theory - after all, if it was the same reality, why would the Others have kept a picture of the DHARMA Initiative in their house? Either way - I'm not for the alternative reality theory.

Excellent recap, as usual. It seems to me that the Dharma initative represents a loose type of democracy (it seems everyone is always putting their two cents in) whereas the Others seem to be more like a Theology. Where "God" is replaced with "Jacob". "It's what Jacob wants, now tithe to me $5"
The High Priests of this Theology (Richard, Charles and possibly we see now Eli) might all have differing views on "Jacob" i.e.- "Kill the french woman" to "bring my flock back to me Locke my chosen one"
According to the scenes with ben and danielle, and when ben brings the baby back to the others, ben was suppose to kill danielle, but didn't know that she had a baby. He had to make a quick decision, but couldn't kill a child, so he took her.
Widmore probably tested Ben by not telling him that there was a child, to see what he would do...
I always thaught the others were kinda like a sect, you know with a higher power (Jacob or the island), a chosen one (Richard, Widmore, Ben, Locke) and some believers, followers!
What ever type of government the others have, its largely based on military protection. I don't mean from people from the normal world, I mean all of the "undead" people like Christian, Charlie, and now Locke that are some how chosen because of the role they are soon to play in this war to come. The person in charge on the island, most likey Jacob, is obviously trusted by many loyal subjects because he knows who needs to be chosen.

I think that the "shadow of the statue" question was just a code she was using to see who else was working for Widmore perhaps.
I think the child just made Ben realise he was to blame for Alex's death I don't much like the idea that it's Widmore to much.

Well thats my theory on smokey(the smoke monster) :
Smokey is something natural, created by whatever energy the island contained, but running wild through it. The ancient islanders (possibly Egyptian coloners) harnessed it and created vents for him. And then they brought their own gods to talk and confront the monster.

I don't have too keen of a memory on the subject but why do we all assume that Ben was with Dharma during the purge? All I remember was that he was with his dad (who he hated)? My memory is hazy as to wether or not he was in a Dharma jumpsuit but even if he was maybe it was a disguise??? Just wanted to point out the possiblility maybe he never reentered the DI and the purge was, in fact, an "outside job."

Ben was indeed working with his father in 1992 on the day of the purge. He and his dad had to make a delivery to the Pearl Station and then were going to drink some beers and have some "father/son" time because it was Ben's birthday. He was living in the barracks and had a Dharma jumpsuit on. He was a "work man" just like his dad.

It seems to me that he must've been some sort of double agent at the time that he took Alex, because I doubt he could be off doing things with the Others for most of his life and then come back and no one would ask questions. The Dharma Initiates are very paranoid about the hostiles, as we have seen. I'm sure one of their first thoughts would be that he was "compromised".

the smoke monster is actually the god anubis' essence. trapped in the form of black smoke since the statue was destroyed or went missing.
Illana and Ceaser are part of a cult or perhaps patrons of Charles Widmore ,that's why Illana brought Sayid back to the island after he refused to go back with Jack and the others.

I highly doubt that there is a scientific explanation for an Egyptian god's "essence".
I personally think that the answer to what the monster is will be a lot less of a cop-out than that, i.e. something that is not in the realm of fantasy and is more science fiction oriented.

I think Ben didnt kill Penny and Danielle is because he saw that they had children, meaning he didnt want the kid to grow up without a mother like he did. Also what lies in the shadow prob came from Faradays notes that the survivors found with Lapidas in those notes too. This is why they didnt trust Frank.....The government is like a company, president, then vp, then 1st manager, 2nd manager, then assistant manager etc, (Armylike as well)

Maybe a little off the good direction, but I thought that the question 'what lies in the shadow of the statue' can be a sort of I recognize you as one of my team when you answer correctly thingie. Maybe they're all hired by someone and know each other by asking that question.. I hope we're gonna find out next week what it means. I'm also curious what's inside that giant box they have.

Definately a monarchy. People always used to believe that the kings and queens were picked by God and that no-one should mess with it and to me that sounds exactly like the others. If Jacob is God then that would make Ben, Widmore and Locke and kings of the island, the people that are chosen by the all powerful to rule over a group. But I don't see were that puts Richard. Kings and Queens are chosen by blood so maybe Richard is more an adviser, sent to keep a watch and keep the kings in check

the donkey wheel/well lies in the shadow of the statue. remember the islanders saw the statue from behind whilst standing next to where the well was/is, although shadows can be at any angle, in a metaphorical sense, shadows are usually behind the subject.
the statue was built to indicate where the electromagnetic dodgyness was/exit off the island.

Perhaps because the smoke monster is "chained" down by something. When we hear the monster sometimes, there is a mechanical chain sound that happens. Perhaps the monster can only go so far because of some enchantment. I don't know.

james, ellie wasn't an outsider. chances are penny's mom is someone unimportant widmore met on his travels.
also, it's ridiculous to say charlie hume is widmore, they both exist in teh same time outside the island, i mean, comeon... lost isn't THAT crazy or it'll loose even more rating it can't afford.
as for the Others gov - it's a corporate model with a lot of middle managment that have their own departmnents but jacob is the stokeholder everyone has to align with.

Your vid just reminded me...I flippin hate Caesar and am so glad the writers killed him (or may have) off. I think they realised he wasn't getting a great fan reception and would take too much work to weave him in to a character we enjoy and love..
ALSO! Mr James, I have a question for you. If Danielle was threatened by Ben around 88..why didn't she just go and join / talk to Dharma? Was it because she was presumed a 'hostile' or cos Ben was with them?

Dharma tried to remain within their fences to stay away from the Others and the smoke monster. Danielle created a boundary for herself that included not going into the "dark territory". Maybe due to this fact, neither group knew of the other's existence. Very possible. Only the Others had complete and total free range of the island.

Did you notice the drawings of the ancient god Anubis in Smoky's chamber? Anubis was the god to protect the dead and bring them to the afterlife.
Does the Island exist to help the dead transition to the afterlife? Are our Losties really dead and have they been brought to the Island to help with their transition???

They changed Rousseau's backstory again, didn't they? Didn't she tell Sayid that she followed a column of black smoke inland and that's when the Others took the baby? We see here that they just snatch Alex off the beach. She also originally claimed that she had never seen an Other, but I guess that one can be chalked up to her being afraid to reveal too much, given Ben's warning.

She said the column of smoke appeared and that night they came for Alex. So that's one correct thing. There is a problem with her seeing Ben because she said she doesn't see them but "hears" them in the form of the whispers (her talking in season 1). So, it's up to interpretation of her words in season 1 as to whether or not she actually saw an Other that night. But it's now canon that she did.

This is a very good point. Perhaps they want us to believe that after 16 years, and the fact that it was dark, that Danielle couldn't remember what he looked like. However, she was absolutely certain "Henry Gale" was an Other; how did she know? Perhaps this will be answered soon when we finally have a Henry Gale episode.

I think it was the guy (I forgot his name) from Lost Via Domus because there's a level where your in the Flame Station, and in that level there's a computer you can use that has the option of making a food drop. But that's can only be true if Via Domus' story line is relevant to Lost's story line.

The way Richard looked at Ben after he confronted Charles was amost like him saying "theres our next leader" - I think maybe Ben taking baby alex was purely a plan to publically humiliate Charles and undermine his leadership. Im not sure the Risk game alone is enough to debunk the alternative reality theory - after all, if it was the same reality, why would the Others have kept a picture of the DHARMA Initiative in their house? Either way - I'm not for the alternative reality theory.

I personally like the theory that the island was part of a ancient land (Egypt or Carthage) and "someting" happened to set this land apart.
The same structure of Christianity with Jesus from Egyptian God's mytholgy might've evolved differently apart from known civilization. that's why it's similiar but not the same.

Excellent recap, as usual. It seems to me that the Dharma initative represents a loose type of democracy (it seems everyone is always putting their two cents in) whereas the Others seem to be more like a Theology. Where "God" is replaced with "Jacob". "It's what Jacob wants, now tithe to me $5"
The High Priests of this Theology (Richard, Charles and possibly we see now Eli) might all have differing views on "Jacob" i.e.- "Kill the french woman" to "bring my flock back to me Locke my chosen one"

According to the scenes with ben and danielle, and when ben brings the baby back to the others, ben was suppose to kill danielle, but didn't know that she had a baby. He had to make a quick decision, but couldn't kill a child, so he took her.
Widmore probably tested Ben by not telling him that there was a child, to see what he would do...

I think Widmore recruted a bunch of people off island and put them in the plane with one mission: take back the island by creating "new" others.
In that case "What lies in the shadow of the statue?" would be a code to recognize each other.
I don't know... but I think it was way too weird...

What ever type of government the others have, its largely based on military protection. I don't mean from people from the normal world, I mean all of the "undead" people like Christian, Charlie, and now Locke that are some how chosen because of the role they are soon to play in this war to come. The person in charge on the island, most likey Jacob, is obviously trusted by many loyal subjects because he knows who needs to be chosen.
