Are they hornless? My Vet says that breeding for polled cattle breeds the butts off them but this bull looks pretty good. Is this an average bull? One would expect a promo to feature an outstanding individual.
Are they easy to handle or do they get "wild" left on rough pasture? All things being relative I prefer a gentle bull.
The Fullblood Piedmontese are naturally horned cattle, but there are polled Naturalean Piedmontese (composite) which carry as much muscle. The muscle comes from a special gene that this breed has - called in-active myostatin. The bull is an average Fullblood animal in this video. Most Piedmontese are very calm by nature, but proper handling does make a difference of course. Visit the website piedmontese . org to learn more.
The USDA researched the breed from calving through to carcass for several years on hundreds if head.
Piedmontese crossed on AngusX cows calve as easily as Angus bull used on the same cows.
Piedmontese begin to "muscle-up" at about 3 -6 weeks of age, so they are not born looking like body-builders. But they certainly do develop a high yielding carcass !
Occasionally you will find mature bulls weighing 2600+ lbs but the Piedmontese bred is a medium - small framed breed and most good mature bulls should be 2000 - 2400 lbs.
You need to take into consideration the type of bull you are breeding with that of the cow. Overly large races of bulls will yield a calf that is too large for the cow. IE ; the mortallity rate is high for one or both .
Piedmontese crossed on other breeds like Angus, Hereford, Sim. etc calve very well - no more problems than any other breeds. The USDA researched this for years - Average birth wt from Piedmontese sired calves was basically the same as Hereford/Angus sired calves. Check out the real data at the Association website piedmontese-NAPA dot com
YES ! The Piedmontese evolved from Brahman/zebu many thousands of years ago. They are adaptable to cold climates (do well in Canada) but are very good in hot climates because of the color and extra sweat glands.

When cross bred with brahma or nelore cattle they can be great buckers.
