@yamiimax Thanks! This video is the only vocal preview we've released. We want to surprise everyone with the rest when we release our EP, which is going to be very soon!! We're putting finishing touches on it in our spare time. And yes, I've heard Climhazzard before. They're really good! :]
With all due respect - Schuldiner was a pioneer. Vocal timbre can be similar, but the drums and guitars are not so technical. See concerts, as a drummer working with the drum kit, where the party is very complicated, it's still a metal of the new formation, it is more harmonious than that of Death, but at least technically.
@filmcoolstuff Thanks, man! Not trying to emulate Anders at all, haha. I'm interested in having my own sound... I'm actually surprised you think it sounds like him!
@blackened138 It must be a subconscious influence then, which would be natural. It's good to aim for your own sound. It's not like it's dead on or anything, but there are definitely similar attributes, especially when it comes to how you choose to sing with the rythym, like what words you elongate, etc. And it also kind of sounds like him just range wise. Then again I can hear in flames influence with the rest of the music as well, which isn't a bad thing.
you really have something terrific here! I love almost ever aspect of the vocals in this song aside from the short burst(s) of cleans because I really dont enjoy the random cleans in songs like this but other than that killer band!
@Iskate2metal I choose to use clean parts where I see fit. A lot of the time it depends on the words I'm saying in my lyrics. For the most part, there's a reason for why I make everything as it is. Not just "Oh I'm just gonna throw cleans in here randomly and growl this and there, done." Regardless, though, I'm glad you like us, man! Thank you for commenting!
I definitely can't wait for an album release from you guys. I'll definitely make time to go out to the store and buy that album and brag to everybody that I found a new badass band! Keep up the awesome work and don't let anything hold ya back!
sick screams, growls and cleans! how many years have you been training??! both instrumental and vocals are amazing this band is moving on!! i wish the best!
You know, that was the first time i ever posted a comment on youtube... =p I follow the phil's channel on youtube since the "Metal Riff 5? 6? Said that, I'm excited to hear the new recordings, and when u get famous please come play in Portugal =p Keep the good work!!!
@RicardoDSGordo I am flattered that you made your first comment on one of my videos! And wow, that's a LONG time. Phil (Chrome) & I were just talking about that video the other day, haha.
We've had the honor of knowing many of you since the metal & metal riff community first began on YouTube back in 2006, and nothing means more than the fact that you're still supporting us and that we're still talking to one another!
@RicardoDSGordo (continued-1) Some people we know were just starting high school back when we first started posting riff videos, and they're now starting college... that REALLY helps to put things in perspective.
You & everyone else who have taken the time to comment & support us are the reason we've pushed through these last few years without a band to finally be able to make some real songs as a real melodeath band. It just shows that unrelenting passion & hard work DO pay off eventually!
@RicardoDSGordo (continued-2) Since I was 15 back around 2004 (I'm now 22), I can remember dying to be in a melodic death metal band. As you can see, if you don't live in Sweden or Finland, they're very hard to put together.
And again, we truly appreciate your feedback. Admittedly, we're n00bs at home recording and we are obsessed with studio-quality sound, so we need all the feedback we can get so that in the future when we record, things will go smoother and we can be more efficient!
@RicardoDSGordo (continued-3) One of our biggest metal dreams is come over and play in Europe one day, and it would be sick to perform for you and meet you in person in Portugal! For now, take care, man, and now that you've started commenting, don't stop! We will always value your opinions and feedback. They're a huge help to us and they help us progress as individual musicians and as a band.
I think the vocals are great, except for the "Let's take a trip to the adrenaline fields" , "We're breaking the binds of sleep" and the "We'll live through our dreams" parts. These three parts are lacking the right emotions and the right melody =p But still i think its almost "there". Sorry about the english ^^ Keep the good work
@Boeman91 Possibly cause the mix was more refined. This version is almost a completely different song, lyrically and execution-wise. What did you like more about the live harsh vocals, man?
@blackened138 I just meant that a shorter reverb (as in your live vid) seems more fitting. At first I did not even notice the difference in both lyrics and execution.
It's good to hear you get a pro for mixing. A good mixdown can really make your song a lot better.
@Boeman91 Thanks a lot, man! Promise the final won't have overpowering reverb. The most I would ever consider would be along the lines of Solution .45's "For Aeons Past" album for a nice, atmospheric feel. I rushed a mixdown for you guys so I slapped a decent preset on (it probably would have been great with some tweaking). I don't have a background in mixing... luckily a pro is going to be mixing and mastering everything for us, so I'll trust his judgment for that!
@Saccrifix Yeah I wasn't trying to mess around with mixing it too much... just slapped on the reverb that sounded decent to get a listenable mix out ASAP to you guys so you could hear it! Really glad you liked it, dude. Can't wait to deliver the final product to ya ;]
@Slipknot3963 Thanks so much, man! Well it depends on what sound/tone you're aiming for in each harsh vocals and clean vocals. Can you give me an example of some vocalists you really enjoy for cleans and harsh? Then I can explain the techniques necessary for their style.
I'm with "Farhanbangladesh". The vocals are a little too loud, at least at this point. When the album actually comes out, try to blend the vocals in with the instruments of the song better as far as volume levels go. Turn the reverb down a little bit on the clean vocals, and you should be good to go. But, at the same time, it's just my opinion.
@Lovemetal629 Hey, man. Like I just told Farhanbangladesh, it's only a rough mix to share with everyone. The vocals are purposely louder than the instruments to emphasize them and make them easy to hear for everyone. A few of the vocal tracks have been rerecorded to date, and it has yet to go through production. Deadtide will sit down together to mix the final tracks and make them perfect for you guys, so don't worry! And thanks for your feedback!
@blackened138 Oh ok. Thanks for clearing that up for me. Sounds fucking sick and fuck god fucking dammit motherfucker (I just love to say fuck, lol). I love your guy's material, keep on, um. Rockin' or shreddin'? I don't know what word to use =b
@Farhanbangladesh I did that purposely to emphasize the vocals since everyone's already heard the instrumentals. This isn't a final mix or anything. Thanks, though, man! Glad you like
In terms of a constructive feedback, I would look into reducing the reverb and "separating" the voices (u guys might have already thought about it). This last one has to do with the pan of the tracks. 60% of each voice track in different sides should do it. Also, you guys should also look at the positioning of each instrument – i.e. u have to decide what do u want to put more or less emphasis at (guitars, drums or voice).
@allformsofagony This was a light, temporary production so it would be acceptable to share with everyone. Thanks so much for the feedback, anyway, though--it's really going to help me when I mix it for real! So glad you like it, too... means a lot comin from you, Felipe!
Awesome job, Mike! I think you've just nailed it, especially the clean vocals. Well, I'm no expert in clean vocals, but it sounds pretty good to me, especially @0:14. In that point I seem to disagree with most of the people here. But that kind of voice is EXTREMELY difficult to record, and I think you did a pretty good job.
I agree with some of the other people just a little more work on the cleans and this will be well on its way... besides that you guys are badass and I can't wait to hear more of what you guys have to offer
@INFLAMES5274 Thanks, man! It's not so much practice--it's more about getting the perfect take. I use absolutely no pitch correction (even Christian Alvestam's vocals are auto-tuned--and most other pros' vocals are)... I'd rather take the time to do it right without the help of technology. It takes a lot longer, but it's definitely something you can be super-proud of--especially for your first release!
Any parts in particular that sound noticeably shaky?
@Dinky0027 Thanks so much, man! Long time no talk... glad to see you're still on here.
I'll be working on the stuff like a madman--doing everything I can for you guys and learning the hard way haha, but hopefully it won't be too painful from here-on in!
The singing doesn't sound at all really on the same level as the screaming. Maybe try recording the singing in a separate track and adding different effects? You need to compress the fuck out of both shit--neither sounds "powerful enough". Try maybe throwing in some sort of limiter, too...you don't have to up the volume to make the vocals sound powerful--just lots of diaphragm usage during recording, as well as compression and some well-done EQing.
Also try layering the vocals...it's not the easiest thing to do but if you do it correctly it REALLY helps. Just record two separate versions of the same track--IE record two separate tracks of you screaming and then another one singing the EXACT SAME WAY at the exact same times and shit so they match up perfectly...it's harder than it sounds, especially when trying to hold a long scream or something, but definitely worth it if done correctly.
At parts there are up to 4 clean tracks simultaneously in this preview's mix. Luckily, I can recreate lines pitch-for-pitch pretty well. Back when we tried this the first time, Logan couldn't believe how close some of the waveforms of multiple tracks were to matching one another in shape and size.
I'll definitely keep in mind your other suggestions, too. They'll really help when I'm mixing for real. Thanks, again, man!
yeah can't wait till this is mastered. the reason why it sounds thrown on top is because at this stage, it IS thrown on top. they haven't modded the vocal track yet so it mixes in.
sounds really good anyway. take some of the reverb out and lower the volume a bit and it should fit right in.
btw when y'all play this live, how are you gonna get that ensemble of Mikes singing in the background? are the guitarists gonna have to learn some vocals or are you gonna sacrifice that for life stuff?
Really appreciate the feedback, dude. This will help a lot when I'm mixing for real.
I want Phil to do clean harmonies for me, but he's been reluctant so far. The rest of the stuff will depend on what I'm feeling live. I'm very spontaneous live and make decisions to improvise right on the spot. Some stuff will probably be planned for the best listener experience, but others may be done based on how my voice is feeling that day.
@spawnsc I did it purposely so you have no trouble hearing them in the preview! I only did a few things to prepare this to share with you guys--the real production is still ahead. Thanks, though, and really appreciate your feedback. It will help me when I'm mixing for real!
i like the growls much better than the clean vocals. i didnt really like the clean vocals much at all. just trying to give feedback. i cant do much in the way of constructed criticism though cause idk anything about singing or screaming.
@blackened138 I think a lot of it is the reverb, like someone else mentioned. Even without it thought I just think the cleans sound a bit.... viking/folk metal-ish? They just didnt really seem to fit
Pretty sick, but a bit of constructive criticism, I wouldn't use too much reverb on the vocals bc it can take from that "connected with the song" kinda sound, and make it sound like its thrown on top. Still diggin though
@nighttwolf67 Thanks! Appreciate it! I threw the closest reverb I could for a quick "produced" sound so I could upload this for you guys! It will be totally refined when we move into the production phase.
@blackened138 thats cool, im really looking forward to yalls stuff being finished and yall getting out for shows. Let me know when you get through to Tennessee, I'll put together a sick Melodic death emtal show with my band and some others.
@nighttwolf67 Great to hear! We are, too! We just want to play shows haha, but we're doing everything we can to do all this recording ourselves. Once we're done, though, we'll definitely be playing shows... and hopefully one day in Tennessee, too! We'd love to share the stage with your band and whomever else you know
@blackened138 Yeah agreed, reverb isn't my preferred sound. I would stay away from it a bit. Otherwise it sounds great.... Will that screamer be throwing in any growls as well as the high pitched grunts?
@blackened138 Well I like what I'm hearing so far. Just as far as band morals go, be like suicide silence. If the next song you write isn't completely better than the last, then don't even use it. Same thing with albums. I'm excited to hear more!
Vocals should be deep

@shinderhizzle84

@shinderhizzle84 Hey, Mitch. Thanks for the feedback!

TheMetalHeaD256 1 year ago
@TheMetalHeaD256 Yes, definitely. And thank you--glad you like.

@blackened138 ah, ok. can't wait till this stuff really takes off. so have you gotten any lyrics ready for Chronolapse and Stargazer Syndrome?
TheMetalHeaD256 1 year ago
very cool but the vocals are to upfront and can't hear the rest of the band.
spawnsc 1 year ago
@spawnsc I did it purposely so you have no trouble hearing them in the preview! I only did a few things to prepare this to share with you guys--the real production is still ahead. Thanks, though, and really appreciate your feedback. It will help me when I'm mixing for real!

i like the growls much better than the clean vocals. i didnt really like the clean vocals much at all. just trying to give feedback. i cant do much in the way of constructed criticism though cause idk anything about singing or screaming.
ADeadlierSnake 1 year ago
@ADeadlierSnake Thanks, haha. I appreciate your feedback, regardless of your experience. What don't you like about the cleans?
blackened138 1 year ago
@blackened138 I think a lot of it is the reverb, like someone else mentioned. Even without it thought I just think the cleans sound a bit.... viking/folk metal-ish? They just didnt really seem to fit
ADeadlierSnake 1 year ago
this is awesome! I can't wait to hear this puppy out of production!
makemebad35 1 year ago 2
@makemebad35 Thanks, dude! Really appreciate you checkin it out and leavin some feedback!
Hopefully all will go smoothly with production and we'll have these bad boys out soon!

great man!
Kamilos55 1 year ago
Pretty sick, but a bit of constructive criticism, I wouldn't use too much reverb on the vocals bc it can take from that "connected with the song" kinda sound, and make it sound like its thrown on top. Still diggin though
nighttwolf67 1 year ago 5
@nighttwolf67 Thanks! Appreciate it! I threw the closest reverb I could for a quick "produced" sound so I could upload this for you guys! It will be totally refined when we move into the production phase.

@blackened138 thats cool, im really looking forward to yalls stuff being finished and yall getting out for shows. Let me know when you get through to Tennessee, I'll put together a sick Melodic death emtal show with my band and some others.
nighttwolf67 1 year ago
@nighttwolf67 Great to hear! We are, too! We just want to play shows haha, but we're doing everything we can to do all this recording ourselves. Once we're done, though, we'll definitely be playing shows... and hopefully one day in Tennessee, too! We'd love to share the stage with your band and whomever else you know
blackened138 1 year ago
@blackened138 Yeah agreed, reverb isn't my preferred sound. I would stay away from it a bit. Otherwise it sounds great.... Will that screamer be throwing in any growls as well as the high pitched grunts?
SynysterMaggot 1 year ago
@SynysterMaggot Those are growls haha. Grunts are deeper. Think Scar Symmetry.
blackened138 1 year ago
@SynysterMaggot And yes, there are some death grunts later in the song... you'll hear them when it's finished!
blackened138 1 year ago
@blackened138 Well I like what I'm hearing so far. Just as far as band morals go, be like suicide silence. If the next song you write isn't completely better than the last, then don't even use it. Same thing with albums. I'm excited to hear more!
