  • this was great! although I need a finer nibbed pen (used a sharpie) so that the designs will look more beautiful. Had forgotten how much i enjoy doodling. Thankyou for inspiration and fun!

  • i think these would be perfect doodles to pass the time in class!

  • more please! :-)

  • awsome

  • I'm beginning a pen and ink project in my art class. the subject is a girl laying on the ground reading a book. My art teacher and I were trying to brainstorm what kind of whimsical thing I could do for the background. Now, I think I know what I can try! Sooooo pumped!!

  • I just want to know how to not fling ink on the page when inking. I've ruined a number of inkings because my pen spit ink. Lovely work.. it looks relaxing to do.

  • I don't know why anyone would think the calligraphy at the beginning was distracting. I was in awe of it. I've never heard of Zentangle before, but now I am going to give it a try. Thanks for the lovely video (and your website, where I plan to purchase your kit.)

  • The pen is a reproduction 1800's oblique pen holder with a vintage nib. M

  • The Calligraphy pen used in the beginning of this video....is it a speedball?

  • Was that a compliment? I'm not sure how to respond..... I letter at the beginning because I am a lettering artist. And to give some credibility to my teaching....and I think it is a fun way to start the videos.....M

  • While I don't deny the simple pleasure of the Zentangle, I must admit that the most skill I witnessed in this video was in the calligraphy at the beginning. Personally, the first 30 seconds of calligraphy distracted me from the next 14 minutes of Zentangle. And that pen was absolutely fantastic, with it's offset nib.

  • reminds me of a column

  • thank you so much for this amazing tutorial

  • Love seeing you do your Tangles. I agree with buying your DVD's when ready ;)

  • Awesome....Thank You

  • We only have so much time in these videos, you could certainly take as much time as it takes to be happy with your work. I am an artist, by trade (most of my life) and I tend to do things very quickly. I purposely slowed my pace down as much as I could. You can spend 15 minutes on a tile or luxuriate and spend 15 hours. It is all up to you. Enjoy the process, love the results. Maria Thomas

  • wouldn't it look better if you take your time on some parts?

  • I can't imagine anyone disliking this... 3 of them! It's simple and beautiful. I have the kit and have tangled on just about everything. A great destresser!

  • i like, you make it easy. (sorry my inglish)

  • Oh how you tempt me into making an order for the zentangle kit.

  • Love this technique, showing it coming together is so much easier to follow, than your admittedly excellent diagrams

  • I heard of zentangle 2 days ago and have been glued to you tube. if I wanted to try to make earrings maybe with the art, can you please tell me what material I would need to put the zentangle on? thanks so much and God Bless You for sharing your talents

  • Oh, what a great pattern! I'm working on one of my first and couldn't think of what pattern to use next. I'm definitely going to try this one. Thanks!

  • love this design!

  • Vielen, vielen Dank für dieses Video, obwohl alles so einfach aussieht, bedarf es doch einiger Übung. Ich fange am besten gleich an.

  • I took a Zentangle class a week ago and am enamored. I can't wait to try this pattern. It's so helpful to see you create the tangles.

  • I am so excited that you are now making videos. It is so much more helpful to see someone actually doing it! Thank you so much for sharing this with us!

  • Thanks for the video. Looking forward to more. Love the intro. What type of pen is that for the into?

  • What kind of pen are you using in the intro?

  • LOVE the video...Please make more! I would love to see how Rick makes the pattern on the website by Rick's name...I want to know how it's made to look that good!

  • Thank you. Keep the tutorials coming. I love zentangling.

  • I took a class this weekend... BEST THING EVER!!! Now I'm hooked and I even got 3 more MICRON pens, one for each one of my kids... Thank you and please keep the videos coming!

  • Absolutely beautiful and something for me to work towards! Rick and Maria...please do more YouTube. Love both of you talking and directing and commentating! Keep up the great work!

  • LOVE THIS!!! Can't wait to play along! Rick, your commentary is very helpful For me it's easier to learn by listening and watching something done. I too would like to see a dvd workshop, there are no Zentangle teachers near where I live. Please keep these videos coming!

  • Please post more Rick and Maria?

  • great video! I just took Pat Ferguson's zentangle class today, can't wait to try more. I think your first video here is a huge success!!!

  • This is a truly great video. I do not live near a cerified instructor, and this video is like manna from heaven. I would be more than willing to purchase a disk of instructions.

  • I learn so much more easily watching something being done. All the different examples allowed me to catch the patterning and flow of this pattern.

Sometimes I look at examples and my eyes feel like they're rolling around and around (like the cartoons) trying to catch the way patterns are put together.

    Thanks.

  • I love this tangle! I'm really looking forward to the CZT training! More video's please! Thanks!

  • I just started zentangles, and this is a great vid. Thanks!

  • This is EXCELLENT! Please do more of these instructional videos. Thank You!

  • Wonderful! I hope you do more and more and more :)

  • I love that you did the video. I was working to hard on this tangle ... now I can feel the flow. You both have done so much for my ability not only to create but also to relax and enjoy the process Thank You, Ivy

  • Love the new tangle...so beautiful! Your calligraphy is awesome, too! Must go try new tangle. Keep doing YouTube, this is great!

  • Just got my kit, and watched your first YouTube video. Very inspiring. At a time in my life when I need to concentrate on something positive and creative, Zentangle fell into my lap. Nice to talk on the phone and email. Its comforting to know there are still personable companies out there.

    Thanks, nonxistenced

  • What a wonderful pattern, I haven't tried it yet but I know it's going to be one of my favourites. Maria, I also enjoyed watching your beautiful calligraphy at the beginning.

Geneviève Crabe, soon to be CZT :-)

  • woops sound is working now.

  • looks great!! it's always wonderful to see the tangles demonstrated. would have loved to hear the sound though.

  • I LOVE THIS VIDEO! Thank you so much for making it! I teach and your technique is a wonderful intro to freeing students to their inner creativity. Wonderful!

  • I'm so happy to see you posting a video. Seeing how to shade was most helpful. The tangles I can follow step by step from directions, but having a vid for the shading options would be really nice. I look forward to more of your posts. ps thx for explaining the name of the tangle in your email newsletter!

  • How wonderful! I enjoyed the variations you shared and how much you compliment eahc others styles.

    Thx,

    Wendy Brown, CZT

  • Thanks for the great video, I've just posted it on tanglepatterns. Hope there are many more - it's wonderful to have the opportunity to watch you in action.

    Cheers, Linda Farmer

  • Would have loved to have been able to hear the dialog! With YouTube sound and my sound turned all the way up, I still couldn't hear it!!!!!!

  • Inspiring!

  • I just saw this tangle on Monk's blog and I have been intrigued. Thanks so much for posting videos. Very cool.

  • Great video...love seeing the working hand creating!!!! Thanks so much!

  • Love it !

  • I really enjoyed what you did with the lines and adding the weights of color on the ends does create a whole new way of looking at it, and also adds a bit of dimension at the same time. Thank you JoAnn McBrady

  • thank you i love this so cool thank you

  • I love tangling my own drawings with your patterns. It's so much fun and has opened up creativity in my jewelry designs! The finite squares take the pressure off that I feel when I'm working with larger spaces! Thanks!

  • I love this pattern is has so much energy - it was great to hear your voices and watch your zentangles emerge- thanks for sharing the video

  • I too have been waiting for this Tangle since you mentioned it on your blog. It is so beautiful and you make it so easy to make. Please make more videos. I can hardly wait for the next one.

  • This is GREAT. Using the video is a nice tool.

  • Love the video, thank you so much. Would love to see more :)

  • Bravo! This was a lovely treat! ...can't wait to see more!

  • Fantastic video! Thanks so much for sharing. This is probably my favorite tangle so far. Hope there are more YouTube videos in your (our) future.

  • Thank you! It really helps to see you work.

  • Love it, love it, love it! Thanks so much for sharing it.

  • I have been waiting for this one since I first saw it on your blog! Thank you for sharing this.

  • This is so great to see you Zentangling Maria! Please make more videos showing us how you Zentangle with great tips like starting on the left, things you do that we can try. This is the greatest thing in my life(Zentangle) that I have found to calm and soothe the soul. It is a bedtime ritual for me to end the day by clearing my mind with beautiful patterns that lead to Zen moments. You two are geniuses and Maria I LOVE your handwriting. It is just breath taking. Thank you thank you for Zentangle
