  • a month has passed and i'm finally posting trot without a lunge line, i've got almost perfect balance and I can keep it up for a while. i can even set myself on the right diagonal and steer 8D and only 8 lessons in 2 months!

  • i'm currently taking lessons, and "my" horse Russel has a very heavy trot that almost bounces me right out of the saddle. it's hard to hold on, steer, and post all at the same time, along with keeping my posture up and my heels down. i know its a matter of habit and practice, but do you have any tips/advice to help me learn a little better?

  • @kagomebaby97 you just need to gain strength. Have your trainer put you on the lunge line and do some no stirrup work

  • @xSophieCuyler i am already on the lunge line, so i guess wish me luck xD i go back again every sunday

  • @kagomebaby97 , It can be tricky keeping balance when your horse has a bit of a bumpy trot, trust me, bu, what my instructor tells me to do is to keep your heals down, put all your weight almost onto it, and keep your legs firm on the side of the horses body. be sure you are not leaning forward, and have your legs long, and almost lean back, not literally back, but almost. Good Luck! (:

  • my legs are very loud when trotting , along with my hands, any advice?

  • How come when i rise i feel as though im going to high and when i sit back down i HIT the saddle really hard.. My riding instructor isnt helping...

  • @huskylover127 it sounds like your base is very unstable. You need to gain strength in your legs so that the horse's trot doesn't throw you off balance. Just keep strengthening your legs, sit up, and sink into your heels.

  • @xSophieCuyler Thanks for the tips!

  • thats a really good rising trot it took me a while to get the complete "feel" of it!

  • posting a lil to high i think personaly cuz the horse is going pretty slow (to me anyway) make it slower and sit up so ur back is vertigal and the ride would be so much better for the horse even u would feel a softer ride.

  • Nice job! Becareful no to lean too forward with you shoulders...

  • what is post trotting?

  • post troting is rising up and down if you have a bumpy horse then you do that.

  • @breyers100 Posting is when you rise up and down in the saddle.

  • Very good posting!! (:

Not trying to be critical or anything but when you post you shouldn't be leaning forward as much. You should try to keep your back straight. Otherwise, keep up the good work! (:

  • this is probably stupid question. but are posting on rising trot the same thing?

they look the same, so im just guessing it is what americans call it?

  • Yep posting is the American way of saying rising trot x

  • lol ;D thanks. why cant thing just be called the same thing?

and not just because im english. but i think say 'rising trot' is a much better way.

cause with 'posting trot' your not acctually 'posting' anything :D

  • Haha silly american language :) x

  • it's the same :D

  • To be on the right leg, I think you go up out of the saddle with the horses outside leg (the one closest to the outside of the arena)

  • how can u tell if ur on the right diagnal??? i always pick up my wrong diagnal, wat should i do?

  • Basicly, 'rise and fall with the leg on the wall'.

Meaning...Say if your closest to the right wall, like you're posting right next to the wall on your right hand side...Well the horses right leg would go first, meaning his shoulder would move forward first...So when his RIGHT shoulder moves forward you need to rise, when it comes back, fall (sit) and keep doing this...Don't worry you'll get the hang of it ;)

  • you always go on a diagonal with the leg closest to the wall. when you see the horses shoulder starting to come up, like when hes putting his/her leg out in front, go up, when he puts it back, sit. pullupyoursox has it really well explained

  • It didn't take long for me to learn... I got it after a couple of minutes.... But yes, I agree, it DOES MAKE YOUR BUTT FEEL GOOD. :D. But maybe its just because I'm horrible at sitting a trot...

  • i finally learned how to post XDDDD

  • it makes your butt feel good.i love doing it xD

  • nice posting i'm still learning how 2 lol i just got out of the western and in the english saddle and love it so much

  • actually posting is GOOD for the horse. If you post it puts LESS strain on the horse (if you are doing the correct diagonal.)

  • by seeing this vidoe over and over again i am getting more excited to go to my first lessons. :)

  • ooh so you go up when the horses right front leg goes up? i'm sorry i am a beginner.

  • You post up when the horses outside leg goes front.

  • omfg! thank you! you are a brilliant rider! thanks i am going to take lessons and i will use that to help me! i really want a horse.

  • Lol no problem ;]

It takes a little while to be able to see it, and get the rhythm. I definetly recommend taking lessons

  • ok thanks! i am sending you an invite!

  • @xSophieCuyler It doesn't take long wher I go. I've been going there going there for about 3 weeks and I can trot propperly..............well that's what my instructer says. I hope she doesn't just say that to be nice!!!!!!!

  • @weirdalishot lessons are fun :) you'll like them. Trust me though, before you go begging your parents for a horse, ride for a while to get the feel of it. it's not for everybody, you might dislike it :)

  • @xSophieCuyler its very tricky

  • nice job. lovely horse. hope he/she goes far!

  • he/shes a nice mover (:

  • beautiful horse and i love his trot!!! just maybe slow your post a tad and his strides will be even longer :) good job with him!!!!

  • REALLY WELL DONE!The only thing I would say is drop your hands just a little, other that that the trot itsefl was awesome, you and your horse worked really well together :)

  • Good job, excellent posting.

  • Great! ^^ You had complete control. Oh and your horse has the cutest ears ever XD <3

  • Good job! Love the heels. But lean back just a tad bit more and don't put your hands so far foreword. It may just be me but your hands look like their a little foreword. Beautiful horse! What breed is he or she?

  • Thats what I use to think too, but actually, she seems to be posting almost exactly how you should be.

Look at the November issue of Horse Illustrated, they have an article on it.

  • very nicee!! great job controlling the horse : )

  • very nice!
