Grobah, wraps are an excellent option. I used wraps for years before I tried the Ergo. I found wraps very comfortable. But I found the Ergo very fast to put on and it didn't drag on the ground (in snow, mud, etc). Plus my husband was willing to wear it which helped a LOT! I find that the Ergo has much more mainstream appeal than traditional baby carriers in general and I honestly find it the comfortable baby carrier; otherwise I would not bother with doing videos and websites about it! :)
Wraps are wonderful but they don't suit everyone. I used wraps with my first and for around 8 months with my 2nd. When I tried the Ergo, I was done with wrapping! No more dragging cloth on the filthy ground or sweating while baby fusses waiting for me to finish wrapping. I find the Ergo more comfy and lightning fast. By all means, use wraps if you love them, but they are not for everyone.
Not exactly. A mei tai ties, which takes longer. And a mei tai lacks the structured, supportive waist band of the Ergo, which transfers most of the weight of the baby to the hips. I have never been comfy in a mei tai, and I have TRIED!!!!
Same here! Can't enjoy this carrier as I have no idea where to obtain a simple side carry instructional video. The DVD that came with the carrier is pretty useless :(
I've given this a lot of thought and the botttom line is I don't recommend the Ergo for a hip carry. If you want to hip carry exclusively, use a Scootababy. The Ergo shines for front and back. For serious babywearing, especially with toddlers, the Ergo is the way to go.

That's a good idea. It's not pretty, I warn you! I will ask my daughter if she's willing to model - she's got her own opinions!
