I currently own 2001 VW Passat GLX 4 motion. The only way to describe the car is... piece of crap. It came with 2 year warranty but as soon as the warranty expired the car started to have problems. The only decent thing about this car is that it's not that expensive to maintain it. But I would never buy another VW ever again. I know they have improved the quality since then but I just don't want to take the chance. If someone gave me for free, I'd drive it but won't spend a dime on it.

@gab13005 Yes, back in 01 it came with 2 year warranty. I think now VW offers 3 year warranty. Forget the warranty part. I dare everyone to check the gas millage on VW Passat 2001 GLX 4-motion. Go to fueleconomy(dot)gov and put this car info. Then search the new Lexus LS-460 you'd be shock to see that LS-460 gives better milage.

Another thing I like about my GLX 4-motion is the 4 wheel drive. It's awesome in winter on snow. And cheap to maintain. Other than that... piece of crap.

Oh gosh the dreaded tiptronic transmissioon from vw... Thats the only thing ive learned is bad on most vw's is there trans. other than that a great car but sadly the trans in vw's is so expensive to get fixed/ repaired so i would suggest a manuel for anyone looking for a vw 2006 or older.

Very solid cars. The only notable problem with them as well as the Jettas and Golfs of that generation was a faulty brake light switch that locked up the gearshift. It's an easy fix though.

When i was a kid my dad had a 1991 passat 1.8 90hp. Manual everything, I was happy it had a radio in it. The doors wouldn't open or close in the winter so we had to hold on to them while driving. And i guess it was pretty noisy on the highway. My dad allways pushed it to the limit on roadtrips and at one point the engine blow. What a car, huh! But it didn't have any rust when he traded it in with 186k miles on it.
