I was sitting by Mac's Mom at NEMCC when I first heard him play this. His mother told me it was written for her mother. I'm sorry to hear Mac's mom has passed away now. She was so sweet.
When I heard this song, I really didn't like it because it was so sad. But now that my Mama has passed away, the song has been a real comfort to me in the days following Mama's death. And it will continue to be a comfort to me in the weeks and months to come.
Mac's love for the Lord and family comes through so beautifully. Recently met Mac - what a wonderful kind spirit. Thank you for such a beautiful song. Reminds me that there is a better place waiting for me and my mother there - pain free.
It is a very moving song... as you can see many, many people picked out this song to lean on when they lost their mother (me included) What a talent Mac is... we all appreciate his gift and willingness to share it with us ....
About a year ago i was recording with Jamey Johnson in Key West where i had the honer of not only meeting Mac but recording with him. There was a moment when Mac was sitting on the Dock by himself and i got to sit down and tell him about my Mother and how Somewhere Nice Forever helped me thru that difficult time in my life. i will never forget having the opportunity to let him know how much that song meant to me.
About 10 years ago my dad called to tell me that my Mother was very close to the end of a long fight with cancer and that Hospis was going to come assist till her death, all i listened to was this song. I played it at her funeral in Jonesboro Ar. "Somewhere Nice Forever" will always take me to that place that is reserved for my Mother passing away.
I picked up a nearby guitar and sang this song to my mother while she lay on her deathbed dying from brain cancer. It was just her and I one cold December night in 2005. She passed away exactly one week later. Thank you Mac for putting these feelings into music which was such a big part of our lives.
