Lennon wrote this because he so enamoured of the sound Smokey Robinson produced with his group at the time, The Miracles. I would have loved it had The Miracles covered or remade this. I would have loved to heard Smokey's reaction to this. Even better would have been it released, even if as a b-side, to some Beatles' single in '64. There was such a long time between the release of Can't Buy Me Love and the next single, A Hard Day's Night, there was plenty of time for one or more singles.
Sorry, guys....I didn't get the chance to hear that Beatle song "All I've Got To Do" when I was a 10 day old little baby, being babysitting by my parents and some of my mom's friends.
ps...the punk beat is actually played during the chorus of "She Loves You", four on the floor on the tom tom, pounding hard, and NO ONE had done it before him, he invented many beats we take for granted, awww, and ain't John got such massive talent and the world's best voice, fookin miss him soo....peace
For all mooks who still don't understand Ringo's sheer brilliance and an astonishing ability to come up with a good part, much less PERFECT drum parts for any song...well listen to THIS song...think it's easy?, try playing it without having to think about every verse...only RS could do it, the master, shaman of drumming, only drummer that could play these songs correctly and so beautifully...or/and, "She Loves You" where he invents the "punk" Ramones beat.watch video, he's playing BKBop..phewww
Paul introduced George to John but George had to prove to John that he could play because they had trouble finding another good guitar player. John played rhythm guitar and Paul played lead guitar. Well , George proved to John that he could play very well indeed. Then the question became, Who is going to play lead and who is going to play bass guitar? After some discussion, Paul volunteered to play bass guitar. The rest, as they say, is history.
This is one of those Lennon songs that John called "filler". From 63 up through A Hard Day's Night, John outwrote Paul nearly 3 to1, according to BeatleSongs/Will Dowlding. He was in full stride. These songs include, Tell Me Why, It Won't be Long, Any Time at All, I'll Cry Instead, and so on. These songs were in between the bigger hits, but to me, these were the hits. John's vocals are downright powerful R&R. These songs also showed just how dynamic the Beatles were, as musicians & songwriters.
@RojotheRed Very good observation! I think that's why I favor the original "A Hard Day's Night" album, it's dominated by Lennon and songs like "When I Get Home", "You Can't Do That" and "I'll Be Back" are just awesome. I think that album best represents what "Beatlemania" was all about.
@1966425 Good point on Beatlemania. Without these Lennon compositions, The Beatles' might have faded. (Doubtful, but you never know.) They didn't let the fickle American teen focus on many other bands. Sometimes, the "B" sides were just as powerful as the Hit "A" side.
Lennon had one of the best rock 'n roll voices I've ever heard. Listen to songs like, Mr. Postman, Twist 'n Shout or I Feel Fine and many others, the guy had some pipes.
Can anyone tell me what the opening chord is to this song? It has eluded me for ages. Is it an alternate tuning of some kind? I just can't find it. I have always loved this song. Thanks!
@motleycruequeen Oh, Ms.MotleyCrueQueen... My sis Esther passed away in 1986. She was my Beatles Buddy and my Partner in Crime... I miss her very much. She was a George fan in the biggest way.... Life has never been the same without her, but I have got our Boys to help me remember her and keep her alive in my heart! God Bless, Dear!
@tiranchula omg im sorry to hear that me best cousin passed Mar 22 three days after ma birthday and we loved the beatles we used to dance to their songs it hurts to have someone gone but u gotta keep the good memories with you :(
@motleycruequeen And you know what is wonderful? Sharing life's experiences with others, such as yourself. We can relate, even though we don't know each other..... And the Beatles are our common denominator! I am so sorry to hear about your cuz. My sis passed on in March, three weeks before her 26th bday. So it looks like March is a rough one for us both.
