  • Only other person that can sing this is Dr Ralph. Love it.

  • She is the best.

  • LOVE THIS SONG

  • No, it6 may have been sung in last 60 yrs in appalachia, but it is a song written by Ralph and Carter Stanley

  • This woman! Not too many like her ever.

  • @euqip Yes and she's still pretty in spite of her age!

  • Wasn't this sung around the bedside of a person who was dying? Isn't it a song of the Southern Appalachian mountain people, a gospel song of their Scots/Irish tradition?

  • OOPS! I was thinking of Hank Williams' Drifting Too Far From The Shore.

  • What a beautiful rendition by a great voice. I do still like Hank Willimas version and Ralph Stanley's versioni of this song is just haunting. The beauty is in the message and the messenger. As far as great female singers, Joan Baez also has to rank among the best. I just think Joan & Emmylou, and Dolly just have the voice and the range that are the most pleasant to listen to,

  • @ParisAnn07 loretta lynn, charley pride also had a great version for this song.

  • As a new fan of Emmylou's (I can tell you are a MAJOR fan ) can you tell me who was in the Angel Band ? I see there is an Angel Band CD with Vince Gill which seems to be mostly /all ? gospel tunes . I want to buy some of her music ( Pieces of the Sky is breathtaking ) and I want to buy the " best" _ what do you or others here recommend besides Pieces of the Sky ? Thanks .

  • i have the cd of this

  • Hey i absolutly love this, Im wondering if this is on an album, if so what one. I would Love to purchase it

  • @WildAngelForever . . . Yes it is on Emmylou's Angel Band CD

  • @TakenAlsoAlso thank you, i found it on itunes

  • Live or not, Emmylou has the best voice that I have ever heard anywhere, Dolly is second, Linda Ronstat third! All others are after them!

  • @agw505 I agree with you my friend and can we find a place on this list for Joan Baez?

  • @agw505

Emmylou and I think Joan Baez is first.

  • @taddyd1 Who cares? This sounds like some adolescents "grading" some new pop:

"good beat, yuh can dance to it."

The ladies mentioned are all "top shelf"- enjoy their contributions, and give us a break.

  • @agw505 Emmylou and I think Joan Baez is first, all 3 have been borrowing from her their entire careers.

  • Emmylou Reorded four songs of this record in her livingroom , the others where recorded and fixed in the studio....... So its basecly a studio album , but done acusticly ... The record is a fantastic, but she have some vocal problem here as well as on the thirteen album..... both great albums.

  • this is not a live verson

  • @TheMorewood . . . Hi page 3 and I quote "All tracks and vocals recorded simultaneously at The . . . etc . . . to me that is live . . . .true once it has been recorded it is no longer live, so where do you draw the line, did you like it?

    Ally.
