There is not yet a great rugby team at the moment if we want to use th RWC as an indicator. SA dspite having the wc twice, they are inconsistent and 07 was an apparition. They are not that good, world champions do not get zereoin Cape Town, and struggle against Sco and Wales. Only one team is on course to be labelled the greatest, its just a matter of time.

The 1991 win by Australia should have been reversed had England played to their strength.
Guys, go into Wikipedia. Look at the AB win percentages. The only team on par with them are the Boks. Look at IRB world rankings. Apart from brief peaks by the Boks and England, the ABs are consistently number 1. If you go on World cups, the Safas are the best. Won two world cups in less tournaments. ABs, Aus, Safas, Eng and France can beat each other on their day. The world cup is only 6 events old and all countries build for it. Seems ABs lift the bar between cups, and world follow.

You seem to think that the 'greatest team' accolade can only be given to teams based on their world cup preformances even though rugby is morethan 5 times as old as the world cup. Where as I believe that a team can be called 'the greatest' because of their history throughout rugby during both the pro and ametuer era's.

I do understand that this is your opinion and I respect that, but in my opinion, the Springboks were the greatest for 2007. The All Blacks were just good. If you understood what Jake White went through with S.A.R.F.U and how that in turn affected the players and how they still went on to win every game, you would understand how great a team they really are.
I think it was their ability to adapt to different situations that made them the best, they could completly change there style of play and strategy (think Fiji vs Springboks).
And we're also the most dedicated.. other countries fans turn their backs on players when there's a loss.. win or lose that's our black jersey they're wearing.

Keep in mind that if New Zealand lose at Eden Park in 2011, there 'll be no denying that you're much loved all blacks aren't all that. So i wouldn't emphasis on greatest unless they suffer from food poisoning...again.

Even with new players coming thru, the mana, power and adrenalin is always there.
Just amazing when you compare our size to other countries.
